B3K sounds more aggressive and has a mid scoop along with a bump in the upper mids that really accentuates the snarl of, say a J bass with both pups up full. Best suited for modern rock and metal. The VMT is a lot smoother, more going on the midrange and a duller top end. Best suited for classic rock and blues. But any comparison between these two should also include the Pike Vulcan! It (controversially) descended from the Darkglass pedals, and has two distortion sounds your can blend between, one modern, one vintage. Harder to find especially on these shores, but I prefer it by a long way.

I have had a couple of those 18V Diago tips fail on me in the past so I'm a bit weary of using them now. If buying a new isolated power supply, just get one with an 18V output rather than using an 18V Diago tip - like a True Tone CS7, or Cioks DC5 if you want to squeeze it under a Pedaltrain Nano/Metro. There's also a cheap one named the DC8 made by either Vitoos or Fame that is gaining some fans around here!

These Ray4's have a very slim neck like the SLO / Sterling. The Ray34 is chunkier like a proper Ray. I had a black/maple one and the fretwork was very impressive for a cheap bass, with a nice satin finish to the neck and board. Very light and resonant too. I miss it!

What do you want to use it for? For fat synthy octave down you want an analog octaver like the OC-2, if you want clean octave up/down then a digital one such as the POG is what you seek. If you want it mainly for drop tuning, then one with different intervals like the Digitech Drop might be best suited. Btw the Joyo Tender Octave appears to be discontinued now, don't go for their Pure Octave or Pitch Box, both are crap. The only one I could find for sale in the UK is here: http://www.hoganmusic.co.uk/mooer-tender-octaver-pedal.ir Enquire first though, as the picture and description is for the Pure Octave, even though they have that one listed separately at a different price!

There is the Fishman Fission but it doesn't sound that great from clips I've heard. After a lot of checking out comparisons it seems Digitech are top of the pile when it comes to low latency and natural sounding pitch shifting (whilst also being affordable)... So it's looking like I might ditch the multi idea and go with separates overall, looking at a Whammy Ricochet for the base octave up, into a Bass Whammy (harmony mode -4th to +5th should sound pretty cool), then into a Joyo American Sound for a Fender amp sim.

I never considered that, but with the foot controller to switch presets that is definitely a contender, plus it has a ton of cool features to mess with!

RP360 manual says only one effect of each type per preset, and none of the whammy/harmoniser effects provide both an octave up and an octave + 5th, so that's out of the window!

The Digitech RP360 can be had for £109 new, whereas a pair of EHX Pitch Forks would set me back £266, or even more for the POGs! The Pitchfork looks like the ideal pedal though, similar sound to the POG but can do the 5th harmony and also whammy glissando effects. Will scour for reviews of the RP360 later...

I want to experiment with a multi-amp setup generating fake guitar from my bass a la Royal Blood. However I don't own a digital octaver right now, and it looks like I'd need at least 2 (one for the base octave up, and another one to switch in an extra 5th for power chords as required). The POG/Pitchfork/Whammy etc are all pretty expensive and it looks like I might be better served with a guitar multi-fx to do it all in one box. That way I can get a couple of pitch shifters, fuzz and amp sim all in the same unit. I had a Zoom B3 before and wasn't a fan of the pitch shifters at all. The B3N might do better here, but I'm thinking Digitech might be a good shout here since they have the Whammy algorithm that they can in theory shoehorn into any multi fx. Not looking at the top tier Line 6 Helix / Axe-FX / etc units at this stage btw.

Lull and Maruszczyk both make Fender style instruments with T-Bird style pickups. Then there's the Sandberg Forty Eight. Also the Dingwall D-Bird looks interesting!

Yup, those sound like the same pups as the Rockbass version, I saw a thread where someone measured them. To make matters worse, the volume pots were far too low in value also, like 25K instead of 250K/500K, which I think would reduce output, particularly the top end. They sound great with a preamp to boost/EQ them but the dry passive tone is way too low output. I fitted a stacked 500K volume pot and a Darkglass Tone Capsule to mine and it's much improved but still not that loud. Ok, so red and green belong to one coil, and black/white to the other half. If a wire from each half was joined together AND joined to a shield wire and pot, that sounds like a parallel wiring config and I would expect white and green were also soldered together to one of the lugs of the pot? If so, then that would give you an overall resistance of 1.675K, which is ridiculously low for a pickup! This diagram is for a slightly different bass but might work for you if you wanted switching per pickup: http://forum.bass-arena.com/threads/new-corvette-double-buck-rockbass.12813/ Otherwise, to treat the pickup like a basic 2-wire job, keep red/black/braid together as the ground and white/green as the signal, then you can just use a switch to go series/parallel between the 2 pickups if you like. -

Once all stock has gone you'd easily be able to sell it for £50 or more used, so you have nothing to lose! EHX Bass Big Muffs pop up used for cheap also. If you're talking about the pop from true bypass switching, then no, I don't think so.

Sounds like either a dodgy cable, or a poorly shielded cable or bass that only picks up noise when there is a lot of interference nearby. I had noise issues recently, but only when my dimmer switch was turned on (to provide some interference) combined with using certain patch cables (to pick up said interference like an antenna).

Then you have the option of muting your bass by rolling the volume off without having to readjust the balance! I think there must be a slight difference though - in VBT you effectively have 3 pots in total (counting 2 housed in the blend pot) compared to 2. With everything fully open would the loading on the pickups be any different?
