In post #33 I mentioned removing Netfilter.2 solved all my troubles. It turned up after a Malware Bytes Anti-Malware scan. https://www.fixyourb...-removal-guide/
I still reckon that was just co-incidence, since its ocurrence is fairly random. Malware Bytes finds nothing on my machine and I haven't seen this popup for weeks/months yet it just popped up randomly whilst I was halfway through reading a thread.

I've only seen the Fuzzmo and MetalDrive heavily discounted though, and only through one or two retailers.

Surely a used Tony Franklin like this ticks all your boxes? http://basschat.co.uk/topic/302520-fender-tony-franklin-fretless-p-bass-sunburst I just picked up a lovely Godin A4 with an unlined board for just over £1K new, but it might not be what you were looking for style wise though. If you were after passive only, the preamp only affects the piezo, so it's effectively a passive bass if you solo the magnetic pickup! http://youtube.com/watch?v=3zYPr3vMpNc

Buy two Bass Whammys then return one?

Tru Oil (as above) definitely gets the most recommendations that I've seen. Some more great tips here: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/302100-allparts-unfinished-neck-minimum-effort/page__view__findpost__p__3256830

Playing AC/DC songs in a different key - Do they work?
dannybuoy replied to thebrig's topic in General Discussion
Drop tune rather than use a pedal, it will sound so much better. -
PS is it also the case that active single coils are usually less prone to hum than passive single coils? (And I'd also be interested as to the technical reason for this!)
I don't believe so. Besides, active pickups are pretty uncommon. What you get with most active basses are passive pickups paired with an active preamp, so not too different to a passive bass plugged into a preamp pedal, therefore no noise reduction going on there.
-
With a noise gate like the Decimator, the hum will still be there when you play, but you probably won't notice it due to the loudness of the instrument. Btw the first bass with dual single coils will be hum cancelling with both pickups on, which is the setting that gives you the most growl like the 'Rock' clip there! The $$ may be hum cancelling with either pickup soloed, but it's a very different sound. The $$ sounds super scooped with both pickups on (notice they didn't bother to demo that setting) and can't cop that Jazz like growl as well as the other bass.
-
Sounds like the active circuit comes after the passive tone control, and there is a separate bass boost switch, so I guess you could achieve the tone you want somehow through those combinations.
-
Note that it only eliminates the hum when you aren't playing anything. There is an EHX Hum Debugger pedal rust works in a different way to actually remove the hum rather than gate it, although I've no idea how well it works in practice.
-
Dimmer switches cause a lot of noise too, even in my village! That noise gets multiplied tenfold if you have a faulty or poorly shielded cable somewhere in your chain.
-
Overdrive is the one pedal I couldn't do without. Bearfoot Blueberry, Aguilar Agro, Pike Vulcan, tough to say which one though!
-
Vertical stacks really come into their own on small stages though. It doesn't matter how good the dispersion of your cab is, even with a Barefaced, if it's on the floor firing into the back of your calves, it's going to be suboptimal. With a stack of vertical 210s, you can have the power of a 410 but only taking up less than 1 square foot on stage, with speakers up high for everyone to hear clearly.

I would only turn up to a gig without an amp if I knew beforehand that they had good monitors or a desk capable of working with your IEM setup. Try and talk to the venue/soundman beforehand, and if you're not 100%, always take an amp as backup!
-
It's not just open strings that cause an issue with tapping, it's the other half of the string - acoustically, both ends of the string can vibrate which can sound dissonant, not usually a problem when plugged in though as the pickup only 'sees' the vibration from the other half of the string. I would assume that these things would mute your open strings a tad yes, but I guess the muting is less extreme than your common foam bridge mute.
-
Seems there are two totally different types of mute being confused here. These wraps that go at the headstock end are to dampen sympathetic resonance, where open strings, or the half of the string behind your fretting finger can create unwanted overtones. These won't give you a Motown sound, for that you need foam at the bridge end (or a wrap like the one pictured going round the strings near the bridge).
-
No problems with mine, and play a high output bass with a heavy hand that has been known to cause clipping issues in other pedals.
-
It might not be 'proper bass playing', but 'proper bass playing' is all about supporting and fitting in with all the other instruments. This guy is playing solo, so the rules don't apply, just simply making music, with a bass. In the context of a band, he may well choose to pump out some standard root notes, but that would make a pretty boring bass solo video!

Ashdown LB 30 Any Good??? Bassman - Ampeg B15
dannybuoy replied to Ghost Rider's topic in Amps and Cabs
I've not heard any bad reports about them.
Ok then, in the interests of balance, I had one for a while and it sounded terrible, I couldn't get rid of it quick enough! Sounded very harsh/brittle to my ears. I also tried a CTM15, which sounded OK with the gain all the way off at low master volume... but again sounded very harsh with the master volume pushed, and the gain knob seemed to just be a treble booster, the tone being unusably bright above 9 o'clock! I too was after a B15 vibe on the cheap and did not find what I was looking for. -
How do you tell if it's chrome or nickel?
Nickel has a duller, greyer finish. Sometimes it's hard to tell, but easier if you put them side by side.
Try a mixture of vinegar, green toilet duck and a little salt-don't be tempted to put it near a metal container-it will burn its way through aluminium - Tupperware works well
I actually tried this on a chrome Fender BBOT bridge, all that I got was a couple of blemishes where the chrome gave way to show a brass/copper colour underneath. It didn't look very reliced at all, then I read that this trick only works well on nickel!
-
I stack a pair of Ampeg SVT210AVs. It's stable as long as nobody bumps into it, but I could see it toppling over at some of the rowdier venues I've heard other members describe playing at!
-
As I understand, chrome is a lot harder to get a nice aged look than nickel. If you can get those tuners in nickel, do so!
