Btw the 750 doesn't have same rolled off treble that the 450 has. I've heard many a user disappointed with the 450 thinking it lacked clarity, to find the issue gone in the 750 version.

Ok, so if this happens during use, does just the screen go blank or does the entire device instantly power off? If all power just goes dead, a common cause of this is overheating due to the fans becoming blocked by dust build up.

Ok, looks like you've made some progress! Might just be a one off, sometimes Windows updates can temporarily cause issues like that, especially if you're low on disk space etc, or you powered down mid-update. Since it's a Samsung SSD, install Samsung Magician, it should be able to tell you if the disk is reporting any failures.

Sounds like you don't have a backup, so if you can afford one go and order yourself a USB hard drive asap! Shut down the machine, start it up again and keep tapping F8 (before you see Windows loading) and you'll get the option to boot up in safe mode. If that works, you'll have an opportunity to back up your files in that state. If safe mode boots up ok then either corruption, buggy software, malware, or a dodgy driver is at fault. If safe mode didn't even boot then corruption is most likely. You can try the built in repair options and if that doesn't cut it then you're probably looking at a reinstall, unless you can take it to someone who knows how to dig deeper into the cause. If you can't boot up to get your files off, you'll need to attach the drive to another machine in order to do so, most likely with a USB adaptor that you can pick up from eBay fairly cheap.

What's wrong with just giving the FOH 2 feeds and let them do the mixing?

I'd say the VT does a good job at emulating a tube amp, but the SCR-DI is more like a clean solid state Ampeg preamp, twinned with a fizzy sounding overdrive. The headphone amp with aux in is a major plus though. You can't plug headphones into the DI output of the VT, but you can send the DI to a cheap Behringer MA400 headphone amp as I used to!

Sounds like a blend is the wrong approach if the only reason for it is to try and reduce the bass boost from a pedal that already has an EQ. I don't like using blends on low gain full range overdrives, all you end up doing is diluting the flavour they impart on your tone.

Check your EQ settings on the Valvedrive - I think it's a passive EQ, so 'flat' setting might be more like bass and treble off and mids maxed, setting it all to noon might therefore result in too much boom as you say!

Boss LS-2 if you are certain that none of your fx invert phase; some pedals do and the result is a volume drop due to the waves cancelling each other out. Otherwise look at a blender with a phase switch like the One Control Mosquite! I also would not recommended blending digital pedals due to their processing delay, unless they are chorus/delay/reverb type pedals which obviously use such a delay to create their effect in the first place! But digital filters, overdrives and compressors for example might not be a good idea.

If the volume drops SEVERELY with both volumes up full though, one of the pickups is probably out of phase and either needs flipping round physically or the wires swapping round. I bought a Squier Jazz that sounded weak with both pups on until I fixed it!

It never really took off for some reason, the only demos I ever heard were the ones on the EBS site. Never saw a bad review (or any review to be fair!) though! Where did you see it at that price? No, but Prymaxe in the US have them and might give you 20% off if you ask via their online chat, they are good like that... They run discount coupons all the time but the last one just expired. Known issue with Microsoft browsers and this site, use Chrome or Firefox. Alternatively, I think hitting the button up top right to go to the barebones code editor rather than the one with all the buttons does the trick also.

My first bass (I still own it) was a Yamaha RBX270F: Light weight, sounds great. Much better than the Squier VMJ I owned briefly too. I've seen them sell for peanuts on the used market too!

I had one of your old VT2 pedals with the colour and clipping switches but never used any of them as it sounded best stock; in fact I just used the pedal like a VT1 std/purist. I would like to see a barebones VT1 with just gain and volume (and maybe input pad) in as small a box as possible.

I don't see the need for a blend. On full range low gain devices, they only serve to dilute all that delicious tone. They are only useful on heavier distortions or drive circuits that drop low end in my experience. I know you can crank a VT1 to get something approaching a fuzz, but I doubt that's how most people use theirs.

If you are going to drop the headphone amp and aux in, maybe make that a separate pedal? There aren't many options out there for simple compact headphone amps; the EHX one has no aux in, the PJB Bighead is great but expensive.

There parallel out would be useful to use the pedal as an amp sim for the PA without affecting the tone of your rig, or to send to another DI to give front of house two feeds to blend between. However, since the Darkglass pedals have the parallel out hard-wired to the input jack rather than using a separately buffered output, you can replicate the exact same parallel out behaviour by just using a jack splitter like either of these:

The standard Vintage has a rather muffled top end like your cab has a blanket over it. I found it necessary to step up to the Deluxe to overcome that. The other way to get a more lively sounding Vintage is to buy a Vulcan instead, that's what I did in the end!

The other major advantage of analog octavers other than tone is that there is no processing delay. Digital octavers usually lag a few ms behind the dry note, I notice it and it bugs me.

Good shout, filter/wah going into this pedal subs very nice indeed. From here I would either look at one of those, or another overdrive/distortion/fuzz to stack before it, or something like a chorus pedal. If you've no idea what kind of effect you might like, get a Zoom multi and have a play!

If Thomastik can't make you a custom set, I've heard La Bella are very accommodating to putting custom sets together for people and they make a low tension flat which is probably the closest you'll see to TIs.
