1. It never really took off for some reason, the only demos I ever heard were the ones on the EBS site. Never saw a bad review (or any review to be fair!) though! Where did you see it at that price? EDIT: Found it on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/oae/EBS-EBS-Pedal-FM-FuzzMo-High-Gain-Distortion-Pedal/B00GMY1RR8
2.
Good to know. Thanks!
Btw the Truetone CS7 should be able to power one of these off a single output. Unlike most isolated supplies it doesn't use transformers, their support say the mA labels can be ignored and long as you don't exceed the amount rated for the entire brick, you can put what you like through each socket.
3. No, but Prymaxe in the US have them and might give you 20% off if you ask via their online chat, they are good like that... They run discount coupons all the time but the last one just expired. You won't get stung with fees either. Pity you just missed out on the bargainous used one that just sold for £100 on here!
4. Known issue with Microsoft browsers and this site, use Chrome or Firefox. Alternatively, I think hitting the button up top right to go to the barebones code editor rather than the one with all the buttons does the trick also.
5. My first bass (I still own it) was a Yamaha RBX270F: Light weight, sounds great. Much better than the Squier VMJ I owned briefly too. I've seen them sell for peanuts on the used market too!
6. I had one of your old VT2 pedals with the colour and clipping switches but never used any of them as it sounded best stock; in fact I just used the pedal like a VT1 std/purist. I would like to see a barebones VT1 with just gain and volume (and maybe input pad) in as small a box as possible.
7. I don't see the need for a blend. On full range low gain devices, they only serve to dilute all that delicious tone. They are only useful on heavier distortions or drive circuits that drop low end in my experience. I know you can crank a VT1 to get something approaching a fuzz, but I doubt that's how most people use theirs.
8. If you are going to drop the headphone amp and aux in, maybe make that a separate pedal? There aren't many options out there for simple compact headphone amps; the EHX one has no aux in, the PJB Bighead is great but expensive.
9. There parallel out would be useful to use the pedal as an amp sim for the PA without affecting the tone of your rig, or to send to another DI to give front of house two feeds to blend between. However, since the Darkglass pedals have the parallel out hard-wired to the input jack rather than using a separately buffered output, you can replicate the exact same parallel out behaviour by just using a jack splitter like either of these:
10. The standard Vintage has a rather muffled top end like your cab has a blanket over it. I found it necessary to step up to the Deluxe to overcome that. The other way to get a more lively sounding Vintage is to buy a Vulcan instead, that's what I did in the end!
11. The other major advantage of analog octavers other than tone is that there is no processing delay. Digital octavers usually lag a few ms behind the dry note, I notice it and it bugs me.
12. Good shout, filter/wah going into this pedal subs very nice indeed. From here I would either look at one of those, or another overdrive/distortion/fuzz to stack before it, or something like a chorus pedal. If you've no idea what kind of effect you might like, get a Zoom multi and have a play!
13. Responses in this thread just go to show that any swirly pedal will do!
14. If Thomastik can't make you a custom set, I've heard La Bella are very accommodating to putting custom sets together for people and they make a low tension flat which is probably the closest you'll see to TIs.
15. Will you still be using flats and fretless for Ace of Spades then? If you like the Blueberry flavour, one pedal that has a similar vibe but is way more agressive is the Aguilar Agro. A little light on the low end for some though, I wouldn't say it has low end loss but it can definitely sound thin if boosting the presence too much. Other recommendations would be a Two Notes Le Bass, Tech21 VT or Oxford, or the Joyo Orange Juice which looks like a right little bargain. I would recommend trying a fuzz too, my favourite has to be the FEA Photon. It can cover the whole spectrum from mild grit/OD to full on fuzz, has blend and EQ too.
16.
phosphor bronze... no other strings will work on it
That's a deal breaker if true. Surely those LaBella tapewounds made for the Kala basses would fit?
17. I don't think there are any deserts in Sweden but... http://youtu.be/JLMPA4xPFpg
18. I'm not a fan of how the blend is implemented on these pedals either, as it makes life difficult if you want to adjust your overall output level without changing the blend ratio. It also makes it impossible to have the clean level output above unity, so you can't use the pedal to drive power amps that expect a hotter line level input. I always prefer a simple blend and master volume setup.
19.
Why does the BBC not keep its promise of delivering 5.1 surround? I only ever get the pro-logic logo on my receiver, never Dolby D or DTS. My understanding from the BBC's own HD TV promo was that they took great lengths to record in surround format. Pro-logic M sounds like surround but it isn't actually 6 channels... or is it? Curious.
Pro Logic is fake surround generated from a stereo source I think. When I got a new TV recently I decided to try Freesat on it seeing as my house had a satellite dish fitted that I'd never used, and was surprised to see it outputting DD5.1 on some channels, although I've no idea if I was getting the same with my old aerial connection! I'll check to see what this show outputs next time it's on, perhaps it varies depending on whether you get it via aerial/satellite/cable?
20.
Here's my latest iteration...
What's your verdict on the Moog vs Xero for expression controlled synthy sweeps? Had a Xero years ago, currently using a Manta but eyeing up the Moog!
21. I've heard comments that the AO does low gain better than the other pedals, certainly seems the most versatile of the three. I wouldn't call the B7K warm either, it's quite bright and metallic to me. The Pike Vulcan is also worth consideration, controversial Darkglass comparisons aside, it's one of my top pedals! It blends between two voices like the AO, a B3K-a-like on one side, and a more-aggressive-Vintage-a-like on the other. And there's a bargain one in the FS section right now...
22. My #1 tip for the day would be to jump on this: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/304904-fsft-pike-vulcan One of my favourite bass overdrive pedals of all time.
23. I still highly doubt it's digital. Doug posts a lot on Talkbass and has briefly mentioned the kind of elements he's using for gain stages and clipping etc, it would have been mentioned before now if it was.
24. ^ I think the Distributor is the equivalent to a daisy chain rather than the Isolator I've never been tempted by the Gigrig stuff personally, I find it overpriced and bulky, however it is a very good option for those with massive boards. I ran a simple 9v daisy chain for years quite happily, but am now using a simple Cioks DC5 since it bolts underneath a Pedaltrain Nano/Metro. Hard to make any recommendations as we don't really know what you want. For example, some spend loads on delays, bitcrushers, modulation etc, but for me I just need a nice selection of dirt pedals and a solid octaver, filter and compressor. Also being in London there are a ton of pedalheads nearby that would probably be happy to geek out on fx over a beer and let you try some of their stuff! But the best things to take note of are buy used so you can sell without taking a hit, or order from Prymaxe in the US when they are running their 20% discount codes, or order from a store that has a generous return policy - e.g. they are not based in this country but Thomman and Bax both offer free returns if you just happen to not like the pedal. Many UK shops are a bit more difficult to deal with when returning non-faulty items.
25. Deffo not digital, they are made by hand, however since they use tiny SMD components I expect they probably use a machine to do the actual soldering of components to the PCB!
