1. Will you still be using flats and fretless for Ace of Spades then? If you like the Blueberry flavour, one pedal that has a similar vibe but is way more agressive is the Aguilar Agro. A little light on the low end for some though, I wouldn't say it has low end loss but it can definitely sound thin if boosting the presence too much. Other recommendations would be a Two Notes Le Bass, Tech21 VT or Oxford, or the Joyo Orange Juice which looks like a right little bargain. I would recommend trying a fuzz too, my favourite has to be the FEA Photon. It can cover the whole spectrum from mild grit/OD to full on fuzz, has blend and EQ too.
2.
phosphor bronze... no other strings will work on it
That's a deal breaker if true. Surely those LaBella tapewounds made for the Kala basses would fit?
3. I don't think there are any deserts in Sweden but... http://youtu.be/JLMPA4xPFpg
4. I'm not a fan of how the blend is implemented on these pedals either, as it makes life difficult if you want to adjust your overall output level without changing the blend ratio. It also makes it impossible to have the clean level output above unity, so you can't use the pedal to drive power amps that expect a hotter line level input. I always prefer a simple blend and master volume setup.
5.
Why does the BBC not keep its promise of delivering 5.1 surround? I only ever get the pro-logic logo on my receiver, never Dolby D or DTS. My understanding from the BBC's own HD TV promo was that they took great lengths to record in surround format. Pro-logic M sounds like surround but it isn't actually 6 channels... or is it? Curious.
Pro Logic is fake surround generated from a stereo source I think. When I got a new TV recently I decided to try Freesat on it seeing as my house had a satellite dish fitted that I'd never used, and was surprised to see it outputting DD5.1 on some channels, although I've no idea if I was getting the same with my old aerial connection! I'll check to see what this show outputs next time it's on, perhaps it varies depending on whether you get it via aerial/satellite/cable?
6.
Here's my latest iteration...
What's your verdict on the Moog vs Xero for expression controlled synthy sweeps? Had a Xero years ago, currently using a Manta but eyeing up the Moog!
7. I've heard comments that the AO does low gain better than the other pedals, certainly seems the most versatile of the three. I wouldn't call the B7K warm either, it's quite bright and metallic to me. The Pike Vulcan is also worth consideration, controversial Darkglass comparisons aside, it's one of my top pedals! It blends between two voices like the AO, a B3K-a-like on one side, and a more-aggressive-Vintage-a-like on the other. And there's a bargain one in the FS section right now...
8. My #1 tip for the day would be to jump on this: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/304904-fsft-pike-vulcan One of my favourite bass overdrive pedals of all time.
9. I still highly doubt it's digital. Doug posts a lot on Talkbass and has briefly mentioned the kind of elements he's using for gain stages and clipping etc, it would have been mentioned before now if it was.
10. ^ I think the Distributor is the equivalent to a daisy chain rather than the Isolator I've never been tempted by the Gigrig stuff personally, I find it overpriced and bulky, however it is a very good option for those with massive boards. I ran a simple 9v daisy chain for years quite happily, but am now using a simple Cioks DC5 since it bolts underneath a Pedaltrain Nano/Metro. Hard to make any recommendations as we don't really know what you want. For example, some spend loads on delays, bitcrushers, modulation etc, but for me I just need a nice selection of dirt pedals and a solid octaver, filter and compressor. Also being in London there are a ton of pedalheads nearby that would probably be happy to geek out on fx over a beer and let you try some of their stuff! But the best things to take note of are buy used so you can sell without taking a hit, or order from Prymaxe in the US when they are running their 20% discount codes, or order from a store that has a generous return policy - e.g. they are not based in this country but Thomman and Bax both offer free returns if you just happen to not like the pedal. Many UK shops are a bit more difficult to deal with when returning non-faulty items.
11. Deffo not digital, they are made by hand, however since they use tiny SMD components I expect they probably use a machine to do the actual soldering of components to the PCB!
12. Sounds pretty good, but shame they went for a Bassballs-style filter rather than the Mutron-esque one in the Flyrig.
13. I was looking at ordering something from them last year and the site was a little different, I think you could flick it between € and £ and it was more obvious it was a European site á la Thomann (with better prices mostly!). I was certainly not fooled into thinking it was a UK shop at the time, which I can see would be very easy to do with the way it is now! Free returns and 60 day money back guarantee is a nice way to try these pedals out though!
14.
Bax
They are based in the Netherlands, although their UK site now does a very good job of hiding this fact by providing a UK address whch you'll notice says 'for correspondence only'. I don't think any UK shops have had them yet, so I think it's going a bit far to accuse Andertons of not getting stock due to not paying their bills.
15. Any idea what strings were on it, do they have coloured ball ends? I found the stock D'Addarios so good on the low B I purchased them again when it was time to restring.
16. Which UK shop already got and sold out of their stock then, Bass Direct? I've never seen them in stock anywhere over here.
17.
I've not bought any downloads only from Bandcamp. Is there some way that you can keep track of what you have purchased just in case you have a problem with your computer at some point in the future and you need to download them again? This one of the things that worries me most about downloaded music. It's keeping track of what I have bought and where I have bought it from. My current CD and Vinyl collection is over 2000 albums and singles. Should anything happen to the hard disk that they have been ripped to (and it's back-ups) I know that I can always go back to the originals as a last resort. What I don't know about are the few tracks that I have downloaded from various suppliers. I believe that anything I got from iTunes can be downloaded again, but not everything has come from such a mainstream source, and some of the downloads that I bought directly from bands in the early days of on-line distribution might not even be available any more.
You can login to your account and redownload anything (just click on Collection up at the top right). Not only that, but the mobile app will let you stream anything you have previously bought, and so can Sonos. My NAS had a hardware problem a while ago but I could still stream purchases that way until I got it back up and running!
18. Don't forget to play with the internal dip switches!
19. Incredible pedal and a bargain to boot! 💓 mine.
20.
In post #33 I mentioned removing Netfilter.2 solved all my troubles. It turned up after a Malware Bytes Anti-Malware scan. https://www.fixyourbrowser.com/removal-instructions/how-to-remove-genvariant-adware-netfilter-2-removal-guide/
I ran that too and it picked up nothing, and still get the issue. But only very rarely, so it might just be pot luck that you've not seen it since!
21.
Doc you choose to buy just the downloads deliberately, or is it that the artists don't have CDs or Records available?
Deliberately. I don't have a turntable, so my priority is FLAC > CD > MP3. If FLAC is not an option, I'll go for the CD option, rip it, then chuck it in a cupboard never to be seen again. Physical CDs aren't much use to to me, only CD players I have are the ones in my PC and XBox. I have SONOS and PLEX in the house so I can play anything from my NAS in any room.

24. I buy FLAC from Bandcamp regularly, in fact I can't remember the last time I bought music from anywhere else!
