1. I guess it might depend on the environment, what you were plugged into etc... but the bridge pup on my BB1025X is pretty quiet in terms of hum. I usually flick between the neck and middle positions and don't hear any extra noise added when going to the middle position. Soloed, the bridge pup on my Jazz seems to be a bit noisier.
2. Is it acceptable on a Fender Custom Shop Jazz? It's exactly the same amount of noise you would get from one of those with the bridge pickup soloed, surely.
3. They all look ugly compared to the current lineup!
4. I don't notice much noise with mine in the middle position at least (I never use the bridge pup soloed) and I have a dimmer switch in my room that makes most things buzz. I don't think it's shocking on a bass that costs a lot... it's only the standard amount of hum you'd get from a single coil pickup. There are plenty of basses more expensive than this with single coils that also hum. You could solve it by putting a humbucker at the bridge but that would change the tone of the pickup; you could also do something funky with dummy coils, but I can't recall one single production or boutique bass that uses that method.
5.
Of late I've been googling to see what function bands are out there that play funk. Thing is it seems to me the definition of funk is being stretched to include setlist numbers that might just about be bordering on funk and soul while some are not funk at all e.g. Sex on Fire and Happy. I spose if you need gigs you've gotta offer recent chart hits. I guess a setlist that includes covers of tunes by Trouble Funk, Fatback Band, Ohio Players and Graham Central Station isn't gonna land you any spots. Shame
It's a shame the function bands that want to specialise in a particular genre feel they have to do the same songs as your generic band. There are plenty of poeple out there that would book a proper funk band, even if the crowd don't know the songs that well they would probably be familiar with a few hooks and if the music is good and played well it will get people dancing. Saying "we are in the entertainment industry so we must play these songs" is like saying all restaurants should sell burgers and chips.
6. If Sex On Fire is on the playlist, I'd wager that Dakota and Chelsea Dagger are on there too?
7. From the BB club thread on TB: "They are discontinuing the current BB lineup. The next ones are already fully designed and functional models are all up and ready. Probably be in stores very very soon. Sadly they wont be a minor update but a totally different version from what I heard today. 1000 series equivalent will be active. 400 and 2000 will be passive."
8. Interesting! I wonder if there will be a 434/435/2034/2035? I've always gassed for a 2025X as an upgrade to my 1025X, here's hoping a discounted one might appear somewhere...
9. American Vintage 62 RI or the 63 that replaced it a few years ago. Both have the wider neck at the nut.
10. Here's how to work it out. In parallel (which pretty much all amp outputs and daisy chain sockets on cabs are), you work it out like so. For two 8ohm cabs: 1 / (1/8 + 1/8) = 1 / (0.125 + 0.125) = 1 / 0.25 = 4 If wiring in series, then simply add them, i.e., 8 + 8 = 16.
11. This isn't really the right thread to post that, but my 2p: - I would rather play to a drum beat than practice to a straight metronome. - I would not be interested in visual feedback on my timing. I can use my ears to judge how I'm doing, I guess if I can't tell my timing is poor then nobody else can either! Also for some styles a bassist will intentionally play slightly behind or in front of the beat.
12. Adblocker running here too. However, I just walked away from my PC for 10 minutes, and came back to find out of several open tabs, the basschat one had turned into the scareware prompt again. I only ever see this when browsing BC!
13. Try a bass wah (Dunlop mini bass wah, Hotone Bass Press or G-Lab Bass Wowee would be my top picks) or an envelope filter (Mr Black Fwonkbeta or MXR Bass Envelope Filter).
14. You might have issues if you need a repair under warranty if importing one. If you're not bothered about warranty, just buy used!
15.
At about 3:08 in this video is something i was thinking about..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WI5Eg5Whu-8
That tone is precisely what I was looking for and found in the Octabvre Mini! I felt the T16 filter knob varied between pure sine wave sub and something fuzzier, but couldn't find a sweet spot that nailed that particular tone.
16. You could always make PMT an offer at the old price if you like the amp. They probably bought the stock in before the price hike, are being told what price to advertise by the distributor, but have total freedom to sell at whatever price they like.
17. Buy a cheap Harley Benton in Italy then give it away when you come home? Cheaper than buying a seat for your bass!
18. I dig in a lot and don't find the TI's too loose at all, they are pretty much perfect for me.
19. Sounds like you are looking for flats and enjoy low tension... TI Flats all the way! They're good enough for Pino! They are expensive but my P has had the same set for about 10 years!
20. Try some Dunlop Super Bright steels or their Marcus Miller set while you're at it. They are very flexible which makes it so much easier to play slap with minimal effort!
21. Probably DiMarzio Model P. Really thick mids and a bit of treble rolloff.
