This settings thread didn't get much mileage did it! I do like my Manta for some more unusual sounds but agree with what's been said. Hard to beat a Mr Black Fwonkbeta for filthy squelch, and the MXR sounds great too, especially for slap. There's also a new version of the Emma Discumbobulator out and a new mini filter coming from Mu-Fx. Robotalk looks cool too though. http://youtu.be/wnrl3gkAbGs

About 7 years on my TI's on my P so far, no intention of changing them yet! Must suck to be a flatwound string manufacturer, roundwounds are where the money is!

Sell it. Someone else would love an original sunburst one with a rosewood board. I had a Matt Freeman and it was very lightweight, but like any bass they vary!
I'm not big on Epi Birds, however they do look pretty nice. Blue
The old bolt-on Epis are a totally different animal to the new Classic Pros, which use the same materials, construction and pickups as the Gibson. They are so good that Gibson just gave up making Thunderbirds altogether!

Looks like the real deal, you can tell it's not a print like most cheap tort as the colour and pattern is still visible through the drilled holes.

Just seen this - apparently there is a new version of the Bearfoot in stock at Prymaxe with more treble response, and you can tell which one you have as the new one has the tone control reversed (i.e. turning it up adds more bass and reduces treble): https://www.talkbass.com/threads/bearfoot-blueberry-theres-a-new-version.1268045/

17% off all pedals at the mo too. They aren't allowed to advertise below certain price points for certain manufacturers due to contractual obligations I assume, so the FX17 code doesn't work for all pedals; but the site has a chat window, if you ask there they will give you an alternative code.

That does sound interesting, I prefer the older brighter sounding pickups!
The Jazz is fretless.
There's your problem! Swap it for a fretless 'Ray.

I've heard more than one account of people preferring the Epi Classic Pro to the actual Gibson model. Stick a new truss rod cover on and nobody would even know!
Can't seem to find any Bearfoot versions in stock in the UK though but there are plenty to get from the states, but allowing for import duty it's going to be around the £200 mark. sort of thing I'm looking for, cheers!
If you order from Prymaxe, they often run 15-20% discount codes (and if they don't work just use their online chat and they'll sort you out), and you won't pay anything extra when it arrives either.

There's a user on Talkbass FaithNoMan that has loads of Billy Gould style Darkglass clips on his Soundcloud. The B3K/B7K is scooped, but it is a rather narrow scoop at a certain frequency, paired with a big peak in the upper mids - it has no problem standing out in a mix as a result. There are frequency plots knocking about (again on TB). I for one think the B*K series sounds best with a bass that has a natural tendency towards a scooped sound already, like a Jazz with both pickups on. I do not like the sound of it with my Precision at all. The Vintage is a better fit, but I found that too muffled up top (although I haven't tried the latest VMTD revision with the B7K-style attack switch). The Pike Vulcan however, is a beast with a Precision, loads of snarling mids that remind me of Geezer's more modern tones on Black Sabbath's 13. It is based on the Darkglass pedals, but the colour control on it blends between a 'less scooped B3K' and a 'brighter more agressive Vintage', which makes it very flexible.

Hmm, sell my B3K now, or wait until they are £500 new?

The Blueberry is kinda dark and muffled compared to a lot of other pedals. But it's the closest thing I've found to copping the sound of playing through a big cranked tube amp, I just love the way it compresses and growls when you dig in. It's hard to find that in a pedal. For brighter more aggressive sounds I turn to a Two Notes Le Bass or Pike Vulcan.
Yeah I want to replace the Soul food with a bearfoot blueberry or perhaps a hookers green bass machine. How does the green and blueberry compare? As ive heard they are similar😀
They are similar but I would take the Blueberry all day every day. Better low end retention and more depth/character to the drive and the way it responds to your playing.

Haven't gone hunting for clips, but the ones on their site are terrible, just some live recordings with a noisy crowd. I'd want to hear comparisons with a bass going in to a regular clean DI vs this to convince me. I'd like to see what these look like on the inside too!
I found the Mad Professor Blueberry to be too thin sounding for my liking, it was quite a let down when I got it. I much preferred the darker sound of the Bearfoot (with the Nature knob around 9-10 o'clock), but I needed to put it in a blendable loop to help retain some note definition.
I run mine about 2 o'clock and it's perfect for me. Still not a great deal of high mids, but then again I have other pedals to put in play if I want a brighter sound!

Radiused vs flatter fingerboards? Pros and cons...
dannybuoy replied to Greg.Bassman's topic in Bass Guitars
I prefer a flat board for chords too! When I straighten my index finger it actually bends backwards a tiny bit, so a radius would work against me when it comes to barre chords. -
Haha, small world! I was eyeing up the Noble, probably worth more than my entire board!
I've been using mine for about 18 months and although I try not to rely on specific pieces of gear I really miss it on the rare occasions that I'm on a gig without it. What does it do? In short, it allows me to take a lightweight class D amp (Aguilar TH500) to a gig and make it sound like I'm playing through a big old tube head. The 9v power outlets are also a big plus if you like to run pedals on the gig - the only drawback is that they're not isolated so you can't use a standard voltage doubler cable for 18v pedals. At almost every gig I get band members or sound engineers coming over and asking 'what's the black box?'. Singers using IEMs have commented that the bass still sounds 'fat'. I have a regular gig in a hotel on upright, one week I left the house in a rush and forgot the Noble... At sound check the sound engineer pulled me over and said 'look how much I've had to do to your channel - usually I can just leave it flat'. I've used in on a few recordings and it comes across really well - the EQ is great and it's one of the only pieces of gear that I actually use the treble control on. Is it much more expensive than other DIs? Yes. Is it worth it? For me, definitely. Compared to Sansamps, Radial DIs and the Aguilar Tonehammer DI this is vastly superior.
Funnily enough, the bassist from the band at my mate's wedding in October had an upright, Noble pre and Aguilar amp. If that was you, thanks for letting me borrow your amp for the few songs we played!!!

I would go for the Bearfoot version. It has legions of fans including myself, whereas the general consensus of the Mad Professor version is 'meh'.
Setlist for final show is on the NME site - http://www.nme.com/n...m-watch-1967589
Surprised to see not one song from 13!

They are both pretty bright but you'd probably want the steel ones. I've no idea what the difference is between the standard steels and the Marcus version though! They are very low tension however, I put a set on the same as my usual gauge and found I needed to change the setup quite a bit.
