1. I've never tried one, but from clips it sounds kinda like a tubescreamer for bass, the Xotic BB Preamp should sound kinda similar and be easier to find used. Asking if there are any more you should be considering - well, yes, and be prepared for a million suggestions!!! I have a few faves but they all sound very different and some work best with different basses or playing styles. Pike Vulcan and Bearfoot Blueberry are probably my top picks.
2. I think radius can have an affect, but I'm not sure if it's enough to be significant. Think of a 5 string bass, as it has a string in the middle making this easier to visualise. The string in the middle is parallel with the neck, but due to the nut width being narrower than the neck pocket, the other strings fan out slightly. For any string at an angle like this, on a flat board, everything is constant, just like the string that goes straight down the middle. But on a radiused board, the frets get further from the string the higher you go due to the curvature. Take it to extremes and picture a baseball bat with 3 strings anchored to the same point at the 'nut' but widely spaced at the 'bridge' and you can see that on a bass this must have a similar effect no matter how subtle.
3. Try an Orange Terror Bass - it's the closest I've come to nailing Joe's dirtier sounds. If you're after pedals, the Bearfoot Blueberry or Aguilar Tonehammer are good choices too, but somehow the OTB just nails it and there's a lot of satisfaction to be had from going bass->cable->amp and finding the tone you've been trying to get from pedals for ages!
4.
Oh man that is serious bass porn. Though after a few searches it doesn't seeem like Yamaha ever extended the maple board love to the 5 stringer a real tragedy. On a side note - any suggestions on where I could get a red tort pickguard made for this??
I think the maple was a custom order, so if you were serious about a maple 2025X and Yamaha are still making them, you might be able to order one from a dealer.

Dirt.
Do you even really want a dirt pedal for your bass, or is it just something you think you ought to have?
EVERYONE needs a dirt pedal for bass!
6. Tree fiddy is a good price. I had an old 79 but always wanted to try a black/maple one with the hotter blade pickups. If it happens to be one of those and you're not going for it, let me know where it's at!
7. They'll still sell though, just like there are plenty of people willing to spend over £800 on an iPhone.
8. They do come with a gig bag btw. Just in case you were just assuming they didn't, rather than you found an ad saying it was not included with the sale!
9.
I tired to get a maple board 2024x a couple of years ago, which sold pretty much the moment it went it to stock. I thought I was in there early doors, but someone must have pulled the trigger the second they saw it.
There's one that's changed hands a couple of times around here: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/231731-fsft-yamaha-bb2024mx-super-precisionjazz-sold/
10.
Just got this again in the midst of typing a reply to a post!
And again today!
11.
The stripes of different-coloured wood visible on the face of the headstock - that's what puts me off, because I'm shallow.
The 414/415 have matching headstocks though!
12. Used a 415 for years now a 1025. Can't fault it. I've owned a lot of basses and if I had to choose just one to keep, it would be this!
13. Right over the pickup is the sweet spot on a P (or pretty much any single pickup bass I tend to find).
14. Love Jon Stockman's tones. This will probably be a must buy.
15. From the demos I've heard, the envelope filter by itself sounds pretty good - I'd probably just use that and forget the octave and fuzz bits!
16. Just get a 9V battery clip to DC plug converter? There is nothing out there battery powered that sounds like a B3K. Either that or a Pedaltrain Volto rechargeable power supply perhaps?
17. Standard CV bridge is chunky with brass saddles, and you'll struggle to replace it with a vintage style as the hole spacing isn't standard on the CV. But £215 is a great deal!
18. Most people set it and forget it when it comes to chorus though, so it depends if the default setting is dialled in to match your tastes I suppose!
19. People rave about the Tech21 Bass Boost Chorus, upon which this is based. Only downside is there's only one knob on the fly rig though!
20.
For future reference, brand new bass strings £1.71 plus 99p postage. https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Bass-Guitars-Gear/Generic-Gen-4722-Steel-Strings-String-Bass-Guitar/B00CTGOGPI/ref=sr_1_3?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1484316810&sr=1-3&keywords=bass+strings+4
Wow, decent reviews too!
21.
BYOB
Bring your own bass?
22. Also make sure your patch cables are decent. I had noise issues, invested in a Cioks DC5 (which is brilliant by the way), and when I rebuilt my board testing each element in isolation I found my noise issue was due to the poor shielding in EBS patch cables picking up noise from my dimmer switch. There are two main issues you get with daisy chains. If a pedal has positive ground / reverse polarity it can either introduce really obvious loud buzzing / squealing sounds or cut out sound altogether. Secondly, and more commonly, some digital pedals might leak noise into the daisy chain which is then picked up by other pedals in the chain. To test this out, put all your known good analog pedals in a chain and then try introducing one digital pedal at a time. Listen for increased hiss, or digital clock noise which sounds like chirping - you might not even have to put the pedal in the audio path to get this, just have it on the daisy chain. A true bypass looper is useful for testing to see if any long leads or patch cables are the culprit also, you can pick one up for about £15 and you might find it useful later on if you want to use a pedal that doesn't have a great sounding bypass, or as a patch bay to escape your entire fx chain in case something dies on you!
23. Octabvre Mini sounds just as good as the OC-2 but has way more output volume - the solo octave on the Boss is a little on the quiet side!
24. Judging by the fact there is a hoover underneath, I assume that is a local crack converters?
