1. I tried the Nux one, the analog yellow one, got it for £20 delivered. Word is it's the exact same pedal Hartke are selling as their 'bass chorus'. Can't fault it for the price!
2. Oh yes, and if the stock fan noise level is ok with you and it was just that new noise that was worrisome, I had the exact same thing after mine was repaired, it turned out to just be the blades hitting the wire, reassembling it 'fixed' it!
3. I replaced the fan in mine as he original was very noisy indeed. I can't give you a recommendation as the one I ended up with, whilst silent, doesn't push nearly as much air, so might not be the best choice. Ideally you'd want something in between. I will say you may have to track down a 2-to-3 pin adapter cable though!
4. £129 here btw in case you were looking at a more expensive one elsewhere: http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Rodenberg_GAS-808B_NG_Overdrive.html
5. BTW I'm sure if you ask around here nicely there will be someone local willing to let you have a play through theirs to see if it's for you!
6.
Just to play devils advocate. I've owned the Vintage, the b7k and the b3k twice. Couldn't get along with any of them to be honest, but I was sure I must be missing something since they seemed so highly praised which is why I kept going back. It's been commented by fan bois that folks who don't "get it" mustn't be using them correctly... Alas they just weren't for me. I like the way Doug at darkglass thinks, his support seems excellent and I wish him every success, but they are not all things to all people. I've continually returned to the Ashdown Lomenzo Hyperdrive pedal for my distortion needs, but again it might not work for you. This and my modified DIY BJFE Blueberry clone make a glorious noise when combined.
I guess it depends on your bass and what music you are playing. I have a B3K and mostly I don't like the way it sounds with most of my basses. But plug my Warwick 5er with twin humbuckers and steel strings, play some filthy riffs with a pick and it all makes sense! Works well with Jazz basses too, anything with a natural mid-scoop I guess.
7. Nothing can touch the B3K / B7K for metal sounds. If it's going to be an always on pedal, you could stick with the B3K and use your amp EQ. I would hold off buying until the Darkglass Alpha Omega comes out though! PS - If the EBS Billy Sheehan does tempt you, make sure it is the Deluxe version, that phase switch is essential. I bought and returned the original due to it having no low end without resorting to using the fx loops creatively to flip the phase. Another good one to look at outside of Darkglassville is the Two Notes Le Bass.
8. I've never tried one, but from clips it sounds kinda like a tubescreamer for bass, the Xotic BB Preamp should sound kinda similar and be easier to find used. Asking if there are any more you should be considering - well, yes, and be prepared for a million suggestions!!! I have a few faves but they all sound very different and some work best with different basses or playing styles. Pike Vulcan and Bearfoot Blueberry are probably my top picks.
9. I think radius can have an affect, but I'm not sure if it's enough to be significant. Think of a 5 string bass, as it has a string in the middle making this easier to visualise. The string in the middle is parallel with the neck, but due to the nut width being narrower than the neck pocket, the other strings fan out slightly. For any string at an angle like this, on a flat board, everything is constant, just like the string that goes straight down the middle. But on a radiused board, the frets get further from the string the higher you go due to the curvature. Take it to extremes and picture a baseball bat with 3 strings anchored to the same point at the 'nut' but widely spaced at the 'bridge' and you can see that on a bass this must have a similar effect no matter how subtle.
10. VT Bass. Done.
11. Try an Orange Terror Bass - it's the closest I've come to nailing Joe's dirtier sounds. If you're after pedals, the Bearfoot Blueberry or Aguilar Tonehammer are good choices too, but somehow the OTB just nails it and there's a lot of satisfaction to be had from going bass->cable->amp and finding the tone you've been trying to get from pedals for ages!
12.
Oh man that is serious bass porn. Though after a few searches it doesn't seeem like Yamaha ever extended the maple board love to the 5 stringer a real tragedy. On a side note - any suggestions on where I could get a red tort pickguard made for this??
I think the maple was a custom order, so if you were serious about a maple 2025X and Yamaha are still making them, you might be able to order one from a dealer.

Dirt.
Do you even really want a dirt pedal for your bass, or is it just something you think you ought to have?
EVERYONE needs a dirt pedal for bass!
14. Tree fiddy is a good price. I had an old 79 but always wanted to try a black/maple one with the hotter blade pickups. If it happens to be one of those and you're not going for it, let me know where it's at!
15. They'll still sell though, just like there are plenty of people willing to spend over £800 on an iPhone.
16. They do come with a gig bag btw. Just in case you were just assuming they didn't, rather than you found an ad saying it was not included with the sale!
17.
I tired to get a maple board 2024x a couple of years ago, which sold pretty much the moment it went it to stock. I thought I was in there early doors, but someone must have pulled the trigger the second they saw it.
There's one that's changed hands a couple of times around here: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/231731-fsft-yamaha-bb2024mx-super-precisionjazz-sold/
18.
Just got this again in the midst of typing a reply to a post!
And again today!
19.
The stripes of different-coloured wood visible on the face of the headstock - that's what puts me off, because I'm shallow.
The 414/415 have matching headstocks though!
20. Used a 415 for years now a 1025. Can't fault it. I've owned a lot of basses and if I had to choose just one to keep, it would be this!
21. Right over the pickup is the sweet spot on a P (or pretty much any single pickup bass I tend to find).
22. Love Jon Stockman's tones. This will probably be a must buy.
23. From the demos I've heard, the envelope filter by itself sounds pretty good - I'd probably just use that and forget the octave and fuzz bits!
24. Just get a 9V battery clip to DC plug converter? There is nothing out there battery powered that sounds like a B3K. Either that or a Pedaltrain Volto rechargeable power supply perhaps?
25. Standard CV bridge is chunky with brass saddles, and you'll struggle to replace it with a vintage style as the hole spacing isn't standard on the CV. But £215 is a great deal!
