1. Beyerdynamic DT-770 Pro. Only ever tried Sony MDR-7506 (meh), PJB H-850 (ok) and these (great) for bass practice.
2. I've looked inside and can see no reason why it wouldn't.
3. The Boss LS-2 will split the signal for an fx loop for the laptop, give you individual level controls for each channel and mix to a single output for the bass amp.
4. A Boss OC-2 with the octave soloed sounds awesome - but the output volume isn't quite up there. The 3Leaf Octabvre fixes that though, I highly recommend it. Then pair that up with a Source Audio Manta, a mad filter/distortion pedal with envelope/LFO/expression/hothand control and you can conjure up tons of sounds from those two pedals alone.
5. Steel strings, scooped EQ. Sounds awful to me though, he could do with a set of flats and boosting the mids!
6. I would call that a latency issue rather than tracking, which usually refers to an analog octaver's tendency to warble when trying to lock into the correct pitch. There is a small delay with all digital octavers though. If you want instant response, don't need to sound like a natural bass guitar, and only need monophonic octave down - analog all the way!
7. Echoing what some others have alluded to, the recording and mixing processes are just as important as the mastering. Make sure you're getting top quality results from the earlier stages too, as you can't polish a turd. You can however, roll it in glitter!
8. If you're using Dunlop steels, they feel lifeless because they're cr4p strings. I put a set on and found them duller than their nickels (which are decent)! Dunlop Super Bright, or the Marcus Miller set, is another story though. Very lively, and the lowest tension I've ever seen in a string, which makes for effortless slap etc. But they took a long time to break in until I was happy with the tone, they sounded far too thin and clanky at first.
9. Truetone CS-12 does 9V AC and is not on that list.
10. If you wrap the string around the post a couple of times before turning the peg, this twists the string. If the ball end isn't rotated to free it, you can end up tightening a twisted string, which can result in dead sounding strings, strange overtones, or even a chorus-like effect.
11. For a rock band and that budget I would be seriously looking at the Fender USA Geddy Lee sig!
12. I would get a Jazz... but maybe not spend £1500 on one for now. For that much you could get a used Squier CV Jazz, Epiphone Thunderbird Classic Pro, and Sterling Ray34CA, learn a lot more about what you like and still have change!
13.
It's actually remarkably easy to swap tasks with hands but you need a reason to do it. Try using a mouse for example. Doesn't take long to get used to it in the other hand.
Yes, when my right hand is busy I use my left hand on the mouse...
14.
As I've mentioned in other related threads I do a lot of other two handed things right handed (played cricket and golf right handed) and I'm right footed but single handed things (raquet sports) always left handed. Thus I end up in an odd way with cutlery - knife and fork right handed but spoon leftie! However I usually use a mouse right handed as invariably I've taken over a desk from someone else and thats been how the PC was arranged so I just carried on that way. It's also handy in that I can browse the internet right handed with the mouse whilst taking down hand written notes with my left at the same time.
Exactly the same here. When playing tennis I can switch hands as I find it easier than doing a backswing! Also snooker/pool is left handed.
15. Try the intro to Love Is The Drug if you fancy a challenge. I can't figure out how to time the transition to the verse for the life of me!
16. Actually the Fender P5 pickup fits that description, and I've seen a few floating about used from owners that have switched them out for Nordstrand etc. If you see one for a good price, jump on it!
17. Source Audio Manta is pretty left field, also great value. Tons of fun with an expression pedal or hot hand too!
18.
Well that is interesting. I was so sure it was when I started senior school I got it. I must have got the dates wrong in an effort to sound cool on a bass forum . I know i was still at school anyway As it must have been an early one, whenever I got it, I wonder if they are worth anything and i made a mistake selling it.
Not sure about Strats, but JV Squier basses can fetch more than USA Standards on the used market. So yes, you should have kept it!
19. I have some on my fretless; ridiculous amounts of mwah with a low action, as smooth as flats but a bit more lively!
20. Half rounds? I recommend the Status ones. Pressurewounds (SIT Silencers perhaps?) for something a bit brighter. But if you don't mind grazing your fingerboard and fingertips, roundwound steels will sound pretty lively!
21. Young lad has talent - hopefully one day he will grow out of that silly jazz obsession and start playing some proper music!
22. Also I've not had much luck using the fx loop in my OTB. The level is insanely high, you need a preamp pedal with a lot of output. The Sansamp does have that boost switch though. Have you tried going straight into the amp front end? Try maxing the mids and treble and lower the bass to 9 o'clock, it's a strange EQ that one.
23. The Sansamp has tons of treble on tap - if you can't get enough treble out of one, you don't need a new preamp pedal, you need a new bass/cable/amp/cab!
