1. I would get a Jazz... but maybe not spend £1500 on one for now. For that much you could get a used Squier CV Jazz, Epiphone Thunderbird Classic Pro, and Sterling Ray34CA, learn a lot more about what you like and still have change!
2.
It's actually remarkably easy to swap tasks with hands but you need a reason to do it. Try using a mouse for example. Doesn't take long to get used to it in the other hand.
Yes, when my right hand is busy I use my left hand on the mouse...
3.
As I've mentioned in other related threads I do a lot of other two handed things right handed (played cricket and golf right handed) and I'm right footed but single handed things (raquet sports) always left handed. Thus I end up in an odd way with cutlery - knife and fork right handed but spoon leftie! However I usually use a mouse right handed as invariably I've taken over a desk from someone else and thats been how the PC was arranged so I just carried on that way. It's also handy in that I can browse the internet right handed with the mouse whilst taking down hand written notes with my left at the same time.
Exactly the same here. When playing tennis I can switch hands as I find it easier than doing a backswing! Also snooker/pool is left handed.
4. £45? They sell em in Boots for £2!
5. Try the intro to Love Is The Drug if you fancy a challenge. I can't figure out how to time the transition to the verse for the life of me!
6. Actually the Fender P5 pickup fits that description, and I've seen a few floating about used from owners that have switched them out for Nordstrand etc. If you see one for a good price, jump on it!
7. Source Audio Manta is pretty left field, also great value. Tons of fun with an expression pedal or hot hand too!
8.
Well that is interesting. I was so sure it was when I started senior school I got it. I must have got the dates wrong in an effort to sound cool on a bass forum . I know i was still at school anyway As it must have been an early one, whenever I got it, I wonder if they are worth anything and i made a mistake selling it.
Not sure about Strats, but JV Squier basses can fetch more than USA Standards on the used market. So yes, you should have kept it!
9. I have some on my fretless; ridiculous amounts of mwah with a low action, as smooth as flats but a bit more lively!
10. Half rounds? I recommend the Status ones. Pressurewounds (SIT Silencers perhaps?) for something a bit brighter. But if you don't mind grazing your fingerboard and fingertips, roundwound steels will sound pretty lively!
11. Young lad has talent - hopefully one day he will grow out of that silly jazz obsession and start playing some proper music!
12. Also I've not had much luck using the fx loop in my OTB. The level is insanely high, you need a preamp pedal with a lot of output. The Sansamp does have that boost switch though. Have you tried going straight into the amp front end? Try maxing the mids and treble and lower the bass to 9 o'clock, it's a strange EQ that one.
13. The Sansamp has tons of treble on tap - if you can't get enough treble out of one, you don't need a new preamp pedal, you need a new bass/cable/amp/cab!
14. Nice, but wouldn't pay £3k for one! http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Fender-Custom-Shop-Artisan-Postmodern-Bass/1H22
15. I got some AllParts ones from eBay, the corners were less rounded than the originals on my USA P so I had to file the pickguard a little bit to get them to fit.
16. They have services like that in the US, so maybe one day! https://www.pedalgenie.com Better to organise informal swapsies with other BC members, I have done this a few times in the past.
17.
I actually just put a set of Golds on but the low E is dead so I've sent them a video to ask about getting a replacement. They are much mellower and certainly on their own sound nice (apart from the E), just wonder if they will have enough definition in a band mix. How have you found them?
I had the same problem with a duff E before, all I did was ring up the shop I purchased them from and they sent me a whole new set. Sorry, can't remember which shop it was, but I'd try that route over making a video and going direct to Pyramid, try dealing with the middle man! I loved the tone of them but never played them in a band mix, sorry.
18. I don't think there is a general recommendation, everyone seems to have a different favourite! If you want a mellower sound than Chromes, I can recommend Pyramid Golds.
19. Plenty of lows with the standard unit. However if the tone of the OB1 isn't doing it for you and you want the VT tone, you could sell the amp and get a VT500. The amp not only has the blend and bite features of the VTDI, but also has a switch to shift the mid control lower down which is great for boosting low mids to fatten up a Jazz bass! You should be able to pick up a used one for £350 or less.
20. Looks a bit big for you though, can you reach the 1st fret?
21. Looks stunning! I have one from the opposite end of the scale, a bolt on Rockbass version - one of my favourite basses to play despite the weak pickups (which I intend to replace). Mine is also supposedly satin nirvana black, but just looks like someone dyed a bit of boring looking wood dark brown. That pricetag though...
22.
If it needs a fan then so be it. I won't hear it when playing live, it's a 900w head rammed full of distortion for stage use... it's not a bedroom toy.
There's no reason why a well designed amp cannot be both. If at bedroom practice levels the fan doesn't kick in, or just kicks in very quietly, no problem. But if an amp uses a cheap noisy fan that has no intelligent speed control, then it hasn't been engineered very well, and I don't see why I should splash out on one amp for stage and a separate one for home/studio. I'd expect the cooling system to be well designed in this one though!
23.
What's a reasonable spec tweak?
The rumour I heard was a bone nut and a few new colours on offer.
24. If it was fine then it wasn't, have you tried changing the batteries?
