Hard to describe, but the new one sounded duller, not as much 'heft', and didn't respond to playing dynamics as well - my old one feels bouncy and squelchy when playing light then opens up and roars when you dig in, and the new one didn't react the same way. It wasn't pink though, and that could make all the difference!

Yeah, at least the one I bought a couple of years ago was not in the same league as my old one, not even close. It could have just been that one though, hard to day without trying a few! But the circuit has seen several tweaks over the years though according to posts on ilovefuzz, e.g. the transistors and the frequency of the mid switch changed at least once and newer ones have an internal buffer that's switched on by default for a brighter sound.

I've actually come round to the TAFM still being #1 in fact - OP ammended!

Do you know if the Toneprint editor has the same crossover and EQ features? I've got a Corona Mini also but not tried messing with the PC app yet.

For £35 you could also get a used Fender or Seymour Duncan and shift it on for the same price if you decide it's not for you. Place a wanted ad and you're bound to get one quick!

Certain shops will mark their packages as $5 value to get around this. Illegal of course, but still jolly nice of them. Just to rub your nose in it, I just bought a $300 pedal, it came through marked up for the full value and I didn't have to pay customs a penny! You win some, you lose some.

The rave reviews made me want one, the cool looking box made me want one even more. Then I heard it and lost interest instantly! I've heard some good demos of the MXR though (at low to medium gain at least)!

I must say that Behringer above looks like one of the best options and is a bargain to boot. Being able to cut the bass out of the mp3 you're jamming along to is a feature I miss!

I've been on the waiting list for years on this, but Frank at FEA had some health issues that meant he was on hiatus for quite a while. I finally got my hands on it yesterday! Got lucky with the customs too even though it was properly marked up. [color=#ff0000][b][size=2]It's the [size=3]second[/size] best fuzz I've ever played.[/size][/b][/color] It's incredibly versatile, from aggressive overdrive distortion in the vein of the Le Bass, through to muff tones and even TAFM territory. It just sounds so alive. The mutts nuts indeed. I've bought and flipped many a fuzz over the years as nothing could hold a candle to my TAFM, but this just about matches it!

Either an Aguilar Tonehammer, VT Bass, or Le Bass as a preamp, into a PJB Bighead, into Beyerdynamic DT-770 Pros. (Tried the PJB cans as well but they are harsher up top and don't have the powerful lows of the Beyers). I hardly ever plug into my amp at home these days! The PJB Bighead is a great headphone amp, others I've tried like Zoom units are either noisy or don't put out enough volume (through my cans at least, they are 80 ohms which is higher than typical consumer headphones). I like the fact it's separate so I can plug in different preamps at will - the Aguilar gets chosen for classic P Bass and flats type of tones, and the Le Bass for modern aggressive sounds, and the VT can actually cover both.

It can also be if the string was put on with a slight twist in it. Some like to wrap the string around the tuner to speed things up, and if the ball end doesn't rotate to compensate, you end up tightening up a twisted string.

Getting it converted wouldn't be much cheaper than just getting a new neck. With a new neck you are not harming resale value and you also have the option of switching back again!
