1. Yup, you have to contact Yamaha directly or go through one of their dealers. I enquired about the exact same thing and got a response and prices, but then decided to just get a BB1025X. Bear in mind this is for the 5 string and it was 5 years ago:
Part numbers for the BB1025X Front Pick-up - WP917300 not in stock it could be 6 weeks delivery on this and it is a retail price of £122.32 inc VAT Rear Pick-up - WT766600 not in stock it could be 6 weeks delivery on this and it is a retail price of £79.51 inc VAT Part numbers for the BB2025X Front Pick-up - WR251000 not in stock it could be 6 weeks delivery on this and it is a retail price of £132.66 inc VAT Rear Pick-up - WR254200 not in stock it could be 6 weeks delivery on this and it is a retail price of £81.62 inc VAT
I've no idea why the BB2025X pickups are more expensive when they are meant to be exactly the same as the ones in the BB10125X!
2.
Tecamp Puma 300. Not quite as small as some, but only 2.2lb and very powerful.
I like this option a lot, I've not considered it before. The fact that it has aux in and headphone out it a major plus - if it's up to the standard of my PJB Bighead that I use right now, that's one more box I can shift! Most other headphone outputs on amps I've tried have been weak output or hissy when used with my headphones. Not sure if it's the fact that they are 80 ohms and don't work well with headphone amps designed to be used with general low impedance earbuds.
3. Let us know when you have a recording of that! I'd love to be in a band playing this kind of stuff, I need to make it happen...
4.
You are right about the MB200 Danny - I was thinking about the MB500 & 800! I've currently got a whole stack of amps at home and have been testing them all. The best one for the 'mini amp that can be used as a power amp' is probably the Tone Hammer but it's also the most expensive I might swap my 200 for a 500 or 800 MB though and shift the Tone Hammer and LMII that I have sitting here
No loop on the TH350 either, I guess it's one of the first things to get the chop when they downsize! I found the fan on the TH500 to come on too unnecessarily early and loud to use for noodling at home though, although I'd hope the TH350 fared better in that department. MarkBass looks like a good bet as long as you don't mind your amp looking like a Tonka truck.
5.
...
Out of the two though, the MB200 doesn't have a loop either does it? And I would expect the Markbass tonestack to be more neutral than the GK. I think the Little Mark one at least is meant to be virtually flat with all EQ knobs at noon. I was thinking of picking up a mini amp to just use as a power amp since I have so many preamp pedals, but the lack of fx loop in the MB200 put me off it - I'd totally forgotten about the Markbass though!
6. A filter will take all that harshness out and give you some vowel-like articulation. Hard to beat the Source Audio Manta for this application, it has LFO, envelope, expression, or hot-hand control, has built in fuzz/distortion, and presets. It's cheap compared to most of the competition but possibly still over budget for you. Also the solo octave sound on the Boss OC-2 is a classic dub like synth tone. If money was no object I would recommend the 3Leaf Octabvre as it nails the tone but improves the tracking and output level. However a used OC-2, or a clone such as the one made by Chord, would be within reach. For a soft sounding synthy fuzz, I LOVE the Crowther Audio Prunes & Custard, and there is a clone of one in the for sale section unless it's already sold!
7.
What's the free candy based on Andy? Any idea?
Sounds like this pedal was made for you - Freak Andy sounds like a good name for a band or solo project!
8. A question for you Andy - how does the Meatbox/Mantic compare to the COG with the filter knob cranked? I always thought the COG was pure sub bass set like this and probably not far off a Meatbox (which I've never tried), except the Meatbox has additional boost/EQ (which you could apply at the desk if using the COG).
9. Lots to choose from but for me nothing beats the tones of the classic Precision, Jazz and Stingray. The ATK isn't far off the Stingray, so I would look out for used Squier Classic Vibe P and/or J basses. A Jazz with rounds sounds like a beast with a bit of overdrive / distortion, great for Timmy C impressions. A Precision with rounds played with a pick is the classic punk tone, or whack some flats on it for blues/soul/Motown. If you want one bass that ticks multiple boxes - a 5 string with a narrower neck suited for small hands, with a classic P sound plus a more scooped/agressive sound with both pickups on... Look for a Yamaha BB415 / BB425!
10. I don't think these pedals are precision-engineered - it all adds to the DIY steampunk vibe if you ask me!
11. I would buy them this! http://basschat.co.uk/topic/290133-ibanez-mikro
12. Lovetone, Nux Chorus, and Bassballs sold. Malekko Unity withdrawn. I'd forgotten how good this was!
13. Never tried one, but give these guys in Manchester a shout and they might have one in stock: http://greatbritishbasslounge.com/product/sandberg-forty-eight-soft-aged/
14. All prices include postage. I will add pictures later for whatever's left this evening! The only trades I'm interested in are compressors at the moment, just want to try a couple more before I give up on them! Lucid Audio Fuzz-o-potamus - A fuzz face tweaked for bass. 8 knobs, including blend, EQ and impedance control. Tricky to dial in but sounds awesome when you do. Works suprisingly well as an overdrive too. £80 Original EHX Q-Tron - The old big box version, comes with 24V adapter and wooden box (minus the lid unless the previous owner manages to find it!). Designed by Mike Beigel who designed the Mutron III, a classic. 'Road worn' condition. £80 Napalm Snowball Feedback Looper - Like a true bypass loop pedal but with a knob to adjust the amount of feedback. Does crazy things to fuzz and modulation pedals! £15 Nano 1590A sized tap tempo footswitch - As it says. Never used. £10 Wee Lush FX A/B Box - A simple nano / 1590A sized A/B box. Bought to use with the Aftershock as a stompable preset selector to choose between the left and right channels, but never used it, so still mint! £15 COG T16 Octaver - Owned from new, hardly used, mint. £120 3Leaf Audio Proton (latest version) - Owned from new, hardly used, mint. £135 Diamond Compressor - Bought from here not very long ago, regarded as one of the finest bass compressors known to man. Mint condition apart from velcro applied, comes with original box, 18v adaptor and inverted polarity adaptor (the pedal uses a positive tip plug, the polarity adaptor is there in case you want to use the pedal with your own power supply). £135 Source Audio Aftershock - Owned from new, hardly used, mint. £125 Lovetone Meatball - Another classic envelope filter, highly sought after. Great condition. £350 Nux CH-3 Analog Chorus - I bought this after hearing it was the same pedal Hartke just rebranded as their bass chorus for a hefty markup. It sounds lush and works perfectly well with bass. Cheapest pedal I ever bought at £15, you can have it for £10! EHX Nano Bassballs - Great condition, velcro applied. £35
15. Even Cakewalk Sonar used to be the same and you had to buy an mp3 add-on (not sure if that still applies today though)!
16. Just for fun Jack - install LAME for Audacity in one click via this URL: http://tinyurl.com/makejackhappy You'll have to do use IE or Edge though unless you have a ClickOnce extension installed for Firefox or Chrome. (btw if you don't have Audacity installed it will try to install it and fail as the package in the repository for it is currently broken, just ignore the errors!) (for anyone interested in how this works, check out Chocolatey and Boxstarter)
17. I'm not interested in the YD, but as a heads up I will be listing some items from your want list later today!
18. Never tried a Sterling in the flesh, just heard a few Sterling vs Stingray videos on YouTube, where each and every time the Stingray sounds miles better. I prefer a smaller body and neck so the Sterling appeals on paper, but it's sound just doesn't do it for me. SLO Specials are rare but you can always put in a custom order for a new one.
19. I'll just ping the guy I know that maintains this to see if he can bundle all the plugins and LAME MP3 converter... This would allow you to launch Audacity plus all bundled plugins from any Windows machine with a web browser: https://turbo.net/hub/audacity/audacity
20. Alternatives: http://alternativeto.net/software/audacity/ Looks like there are quite a few free options to investigate at least!
21. What if you could have a copy of Audacity that already included everything you needed, would it fit the bill otherwise? There will be free simple tools out there to convert files, but if you're wanting to amplify, apply fades etc, then you are in audio editor territory and Audacity is probably your best bet when it comes to free tools unless you don't mind paying for something a bit fancier.
22. All pickups in series would give you a louder, darker sound than parallel; I assume it would also be louder and darker than the solo P but not sure... Sounds like you haven't heard a series PJ in action even though you want a setup with it wired permanently in this configuration. Perhaps switchable series/parallel wouldn't be such a bad idea after all! If you happen to have a store nearby that has an American Standard Jaguar Bass you can try out (e.g. Wunjos), that has series/parallel switching so you can at least see if it's for you.
23. Not seen one of these for a while! They are a modified Red Llama clone and all the cool kids on Talkbass had one at some point!
