Should we be installing these in our basses?

More like 10 metres! -
SFX or COG custom job would probably be the best route. Digital switchers might be expensive and overkill. Wounded Paw make a couple of blenders with the loops switchable from parallel to series but they are pretty large: v3 v4

Thanks for that - any chance of doing 'It Gets Funkier'?

If it's a Big Muff derivative, a feedback loop. I added a momentary switch to my Bass Big Muff for this to link these two points, it boosts the gain and makes everything a little crazier:

Looks pretty cool... Not sure why I need to buy their gadget when I could probably just use a teaspoon or something though! http://www.guitartriller.com http://youtu.be/BIbBe5mpuwg

You see some of these mega boards in the breeders thread on Talkbass where they can have several Source Audio, TC, Strymon etc then start to wonder how much delay they're adding if they were to switch them all on! The TC pedals have a cool feature though where than the dry part of your signal in a delay for example passes through an analog signal path, being blended with the repeats from the digital converters just before the output.

There's a Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar V, but the necks are wider and shallower with a smaller fretboard radius (i.e. curvier) than the Yamaha. I prefer flatter boards, narrower nuts, and a bit of chunk depth-wise, so find the Yam necks more comfortable. You might be the opposite of course! Schecter make some too.

My BB1025X is 4.6kg, but my old BB415 was noticeably lighter. I never weighed it at the time but I wouldn't be surprised if was a shade under 4kg! Another one to look out for is the MTD CRB 5.

If you're interested in sub-shortscales, this is worth a read: https://www.talkbass.com/threads/sub-short-scale-talk.644956/ This one's pretty cool too:

Yup, you have to contact Yamaha directly or go through one of their dealers. I enquired about the exact same thing and got a response and prices, but then decided to just get a BB1025X. Bear in mind this is for the 5 string and it was 5 years ago:
Part numbers for the BB1025X Front Pick-up - WP917300 not in stock it could be 6 weeks delivery on this and it is a retail price of £122.32 inc VAT Rear Pick-up - WT766600 not in stock it could be 6 weeks delivery on this and it is a retail price of £79.51 inc VAT Part numbers for the BB2025X Front Pick-up - WR251000 not in stock it could be 6 weeks delivery on this and it is a retail price of £132.66 inc VAT Rear Pick-up - WR254200 not in stock it could be 6 weeks delivery on this and it is a retail price of £81.62 inc VAT
I've no idea why the BB2025X pickups are more expensive when they are meant to be exactly the same as the ones in the BB10125X!
Tecamp Puma 300. Not quite as small as some, but only 2.2lb and very powerful.
I like this option a lot, I've not considered it before. The fact that it has aux in and headphone out it a major plus - if it's up to the standard of my PJB Bighead that I use right now, that's one more box I can shift! Most other headphone outputs on amps I've tried have been weak output or hissy when used with my headphones. Not sure if it's the fact that they are 80 ohms and don't work well with headphone amps designed to be used with general low impedance earbuds.

Let us know when you have a recording of that! I'd love to be in a band playing this kind of stuff, I need to make it happen...
You are right about the MB200 Danny - I was thinking about the MB500 & 800! I've currently got a whole stack of amps at home and have been testing them all. The best one for the 'mini amp that can be used as a power amp' is probably the Tone Hammer but it's also the most expensive I might swap my 200 for a 500 or 800 MB though and shift the Tone Hammer and LMII that I have sitting here
No loop on the TH350 either, I guess it's one of the first things to get the chop when they downsize! I found the fan on the TH500 to come on too unnecessarily early and loud to use for noodling at home though, although I'd hope the TH350 fared better in that department. MarkBass looks like a good bet as long as you don't mind your amp looking like a Tonka truck.
...
Out of the two though, the MB200 doesn't have a loop either does it? And I would expect the Markbass tonestack to be more neutral than the GK. I think the Little Mark one at least is meant to be virtually flat with all EQ knobs at noon. I was thinking of picking up a mini amp to just use as a power amp since I have so many preamp pedals, but the lack of fx loop in the MB200 put me off it - I'd totally forgotten about the Markbass though!

A filter will take all that harshness out and give you some vowel-like articulation. Hard to beat the Source Audio Manta for this application, it has LFO, envelope, expression, or hot-hand control, has built in fuzz/distortion, and presets. It's cheap compared to most of the competition but possibly still over budget for you. Also the solo octave sound on the Boss OC-2 is a classic dub like synth tone. If money was no object I would recommend the 3Leaf Octabvre as it nails the tone but improves the tracking and output level. However a used OC-2, or a clone such as the one made by Chord, would be within reach. For a soft sounding synthy fuzz, I LOVE the Crowther Audio Prunes & Custard, and there is a clone of one in the for sale section unless it's already sold!
What's the free candy based on Andy? Any idea?
Sounds like this pedal was made for you - Freak Andy sounds like a good name for a band or solo project!
-
A question for you Andy - how does the Meatbox/Mantic compare to the COG with the filter knob cranked? I always thought the COG was pure sub bass set like this and probably not far off a Meatbox (which I've never tried), except the Meatbox has additional boost/EQ (which you could apply at the desk if using the COG).

Lots to choose from but for me nothing beats the tones of the classic Precision, Jazz and Stingray. The ATK isn't far off the Stingray, so I would look out for used Squier Classic Vibe P and/or J basses. A Jazz with rounds sounds like a beast with a bit of overdrive / distortion, great for Timmy C impressions. A Precision with rounds played with a pick is the classic punk tone, or whack some flats on it for blues/soul/Motown. If you want one bass that ticks multiple boxes - a 5 string with a narrower neck suited for small hands, with a classic P sound plus a more scooped/agressive sound with both pickups on... Look for a Yamaha BB415 / BB425!
