1. I have an idea I'd like to run past some of you seasoned DIY-ers... I have some dirt pedals that don't play nice with high output basses, so I thought I could remedy this by modifying a spare 1590a true-bypass loop pedal that I have with an adjustable volume control or input pad on the send output. What would be best way would be to do this? Perhaps the simplest approach would be a 3-way toggle switch, with one position unaffected, and the other two placing a resistor between signal and ground? Perhaps socketed so I could experiment with values, or use mini trimpots? Not sure what values to use, I expect it would vary depending on if the signal was buffered beforehand? e.g. Ernie Ball have a 250k volume pedal for passive instruments and a 25k one for actives.
2. Good luck, let us know how it goes. If I recall correctly my old stock HTC One worked with a USB DAC so you might strike it lucky!
3. If you are after a thick sounding 4-string, I have never experienced a 'thicker' sound than what I am getting from my newly acquired Epiphone Thunderbird Classic Pro IV. Neck through, solid mahogany and Gibson pickups. This bass is going nowhere!
4. Not far from me so I'll pay them a visit one day. I'm not sure I get the name though... BASS IS I assume it's play on words of 'basis' (rather than ISIS).
5.
If you have flux don't bother with Turnado. If you don't have either get Flux Moog do the filtron app which you can use in audiobus to create some interesting stuff
Thanks. Apple need to improve the search on the app store... looking for filter or envelope filter shows hardly anything!
6.
Not got turnado. Will have to check it out
Never heard of that one either, will check it out! I've not been impressed enough with anything available on iOS so far to warrant replacing my pedals so far (drive/dist/fuzz and filters are the most important to me). Has anyone managed to find a decent envelope filter yet? The Mutron in Jamup/Bias (can't remember which) didn't even trigger for me, and the one in Tonestack wasn't too great either. I know digital filters can be great if done properly, the Xerograph, Manta, and Fwonkbeta are all excellent. EDIT: Turnado has lots of filter options, and they make a WOW filter box too, downloaded both for a play later...
7. My first bass was a fretless, 6 months later I was gigging it. I say go for it!
8.
It's about the only bass from the Epiphone/Gibson catalogue I'd look to buy. There was a second had one in a my local music shop and I was very tempted to buy it.
I got an Epi Classic Pro Thunderbird recently, the neck through one with the Gibson pups. Sounds absolutely stupendous, I'd give one a go even if you're not into the looks!
9. I was gassing for one of the limited edition white ones for a while but it seems they're now all out of stock! Oh well, one might turn up used one day or they might come out with an even funkier custom colour option (not the Union Jack version)!
10. It might work straight out of the box, Android does support USB audio devices but it varies from phone to phone. I'd bet that most standard phone ROMs would not support it. Any old male-micro-USB to female regular USB OTG cable should work, PM me your details and I can send you one I no longer need (new Nexus 5X has USB type C!). If it doesn't work then it might do if you replace the ROM with a 3rd party one like Cyanogenmod. My old S3 (non mini) with a custom ROM worked with a USB sound card I tested anyhow! No special apps required, just plugged it in an all audio went to it.
11. GHS Brite Flats are very similar, but I prefer the Status ones!
12.
Hello Dasantos What is the thing that looks like a strap button, please? T's next to the E string, where a thumb rest would be. And have there been any upgrades from a stock Squire Classic Vibe? H xxx
The thing that looks like a strap button where a thumb rest would be is a strap button being used as a thumb rest! Come to mention it, it appears that the strap button from the top horn is missing? I'm also interested in this but it seems there's already a queue and the OP has gone AWOL!
13. Closest pedal I own that has a really barking midrange to stand out in the mix like that is the Pike Vulcan with the colour knob over to the left. Sounds particularly awesome with a Precision or T-Bird with bright roundwound strings: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m-6dq3luTrI The MXR Bass Distortion sounds like it could fit the bill too, cheaper and more easily available and gets glowing reviews (I've not tried one though): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJXXePJLE2U
14. I'll check this out tomorrow... I was never really into them but In Rainbows is the only album I've listed to properly and there are some amazing tracks on it, these two being my favourites: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GoLJJRIWCLU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BbWBRnDK_AE
15. I sold my VMTD in anticipation of the new one coming out... I have a standard Vulcan now which sounds miles better than my old VMTD ever did, so I'm probably sticking with that!
16. I've used this diagram (with a hard to find DPDT on-on-on switch) to get series/single/parallel from a MM humbucker before: It's a bit mind-bending, but stare at it for a few weeks and it'll start to make sense!
17. You can daisy chain any of the outputs. I intend to run a Tone Hammer and Vulcan off the CS-7's sole 18V output. The CS-12 has two separate 18V outs though!
18. The majority of people probably won't even touch the editor (not everyone's as geeky as us lot!) so they need a bunch of presets for each unit that sound good in the shop I suppose. Still waiting for mine...
19. Both good, both different. Hard to quantify really! Best to watch the various videos and let your ears decide. If you are interested in the VMTD I would make sure to get the new version with boost/attack switches or the Ultra version do out any time now.
20. How are the overdriven sounds out of this thing?
21. I love my OTB... but it's very dark sounding without a pedal to liven it up a bit. If you're not into pedals and want a versatile amp with a good drive sound, I would suggest the Tech 21 VT500. There's one for sale on here for £300 and I've been on the fence about getting it myself!
22. I prefer the smaller body and thinner neck, but I've heard numerous Stingray vs Sterling comparisons on YouTube and whatnot and the Rays always sounded best to me, especially the 2-band / Classics.
23. Even if you don't touch the editor - you have a tube drive, a B7K-a-like and a Big Muff all available on the toggle switch by default!
