1. The best available option is the one you've already got. Take that money and buy some beers instead!
2. I was really unimpressed with the You're Doom, it does sound good as a base for being fed into a low pass filter for synth stuff though. You should look into the Wounded Paw Battering Ram and Attack Goat: http://www.woundedpaw.com/fx/
3. Good advice here, make sure you try before you buy as your 'upgrade' may turn out to be a 'side grade', or even worse a downgrade! I sold my white VM Precision years ago to fund a US Standard, which did not sound as good as the Squier.
4. I wasn't satisfied with the overdrive in the Zoom units either... Perhaps time to move on to separates and go down the deep rabbit hole of which bass overdrive to buy!
5. Not sure they would be able to replace a POG, most octave up fuzzes just have a hint of octave up rather than being able to replicate a guitar sound if you're going for the Royal Blood thing. For instance I think the Diabolik and B:Assmaster a referred to as octave up fuzzes but you might not think it when hearing them. AndyBassist is a fan of the Red Witch Zeus by all accounts! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hO0OD7XpQAU
6. Nice, I was thinking of enquiring about a triple pickup build with a Musicman pickup in the sweet spot and 70s spacing Jazz pickups either side!
7.
Just read this on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/topic/SoundCloud/121663184544798?source=whfrt&position=1&trqid=6267606791148368798
I can't see that working out too well for them, reading the posts on their FB page!

Is there an input level control buried in the menu? I think the other Zooms have one, so try lowering it. Also if you're using a shared non-isolated power supply, try using it with a separate supply as they are pretty noisy when sharing power.
9. I had a Mono strap and it went straight back, too slippery! Same goes for leather staps similar to the DSL one posted that have smooth leather on the underside. I've always gone for Levy's leather straps with a suede backing as they stay firmly in place, but these Neotech ones look good, I might try one!
10. Cheers, "Just items I follow" had been highlighted somehow!
11. The site has been misbehaving for the last day or so, showing nothing when I hit the New Content button. Is this just me?
12. That compression is even more so on the Zoom Ampeg model, hence it only sounding passable when using a pick! The DI version of the VT has a clean blend which would give you some punch back, but then you're talking more £. It's a tricky tone to emulate with pedals, I've not tried them but perhaps the Line6 POD stuff might get reasonably close for not much £?
13. It's hard for any pedal to match that tone, but I actually got pretty close with a Zoom Multi FX set up with a BB Preamp boosting into the Ampeg sim. Sounded mushy and unusable with fingers but worked well with a pick! A used VT Bass is a good option for around £80.
14. Filter into OC-2 is interesting - no tracking issues?
15. The advantage of ordering direct is getting it customised. Want 4 knobs and a passive tone control? Done!
16. I leave my EQ dead flat. Great touch sensitive early Sabbath tones with a Precision!
17. This just reminded me of another thread, it's more likely hydro-dipping than the old Fotoflame technique, e.g: http://hydrodip-designs.co.uk/gallery/ http://www.liquid-grafix.co.uk/custom-instruments.html
18. I'd be interested to see what other finishes could be applied... I guess they are photo laminates like the old MIJ Fender Fotoflame basses, so it could be pretty much anything that could be printed.
19. ^ Those Squier Deluxe Jazz Vs are super wide though! I have small hands too and find traditional Fender / Squier 5-strings uncomfortable to play. I have a Squier VM Jazz V that is going up for sale soon, as even though the neck is very shallow, the width is a problem and I just prefer something with a tighter string spacing. The most comfortable 5 string neck I've ever tried is my Warwick Rockbass Streamer (the pickups on it are weak though so I wouldn't recommend this exact one). It is pretty deep front-to-back but has narrow spacing and it fits my hand perfectly. If I ever had a custom bass made I would send them this and make them copy the neck profile! Perhaps lookout for a used Warwick FNA Jazzman (or $$) - with a humbucker in the sweet spot and a single coil at the neck they can cop both Musicman and Jazz tones which sounds perfect for funk/dance/slap stuff.
20. Looks a bit different doesn't it! He says he can apply a range of patterns and finishes as they are built to order too. http://www.retrovibe.co.uk/custom/django.html
21.
The DarkGlass Microtubes Vintage is also nice, but I found it a bit too dark and I sold mine quickly, we didn't get along.
If you want a brighter VMT, check out the Vulcan!
22. Only one poor YouTube demo around and I can only find one for sale from Italy on eBay, but expect this to be available for under £40 soon: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/pedale-Nux-scream-bass-overdrive-x-per-basso-/181963441908 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4Rk6c-OTD8
23.
Whats the import duty like?
£0 if you order from the right shop!
24.
Any suggestions? (Not Chrome / Firefox etc. as said earlier, this is a work machine, and I don't have permission to just add stuff.)
Depending on how your work have configured stuff... if you just don't have admin rights to install apps and they haven't blocked launching anything that isn't white-listed, then sign up for an account at Turbo.net. It will let you run any version of any browser on your machine without installing it - everything is copied to your user profile so you don't need admin rights to run anything.
25. Well I am typing this from Edge as a test and it all seems just fine! I do know what you mean though from experiencing the same issue with IE11 in the past. Try hitting the button on the top left of the composer that looks like a lightswitch to turn off all the rich text editing stuff, that should help.
