Yeah, just read that too! Had this amp for years and never knew that, assumed it was like most other micros and could be used unplugged from the cab if I wanted to.

I thought the PJBs were great, they sounded much clearer but they were no match for the Beyer's in the low end department. I like my skull to rumble with sub bass like I'm next to a monster cab!

I think they borked it on purpose to make people fork out for the Torpedo CAB! It's bloody expensive though, but it does model the power amp as well. There's also the OmniCabSim (http://www.dsmnoisemaker.com/omnicabsim-tweakable-cabinet-simulator) and the new Mooer Trescab I am eyeing up.

Not used it but AFAIK it goes after the preamp but before the cab sim / DI / headphone, as you would expect. No aux in which is a major bummer so I still need my PJB Bighead with it for that. Also the cab sim is on the DI/headphone out only (switchable), it sounds too dark to me though and has me looking at other cab sims.

It's an all analog signal path inside, even the cab sim, but it allows it to switch channels based on incoming MIDI signals, or switch other effects on/off when you change channels if you so desire. Not a feature I'd ever use though. I got one a couple of weeks ago, and it's the dog's danglies. Best dirty preamp / overdrive I've ever had, and I've been through a fair amount!

I've not tried a massive selection but I love my Beyerdynamic DT-770 Pros for bass practice.

I'd say ignore the meter, your ears will tell you if it's approaching its limit by sounding distorted. I would say it's fine to give the amp section a thrashing, the meter in the red doesn't mean it's about to blow up or anything. Whether or not the speaker can handle the amp being cranked is another issue, but I would assume it was designed with adequate specs to cope, being a combo. If you can plug an extension cab into it, that would be the way to get more volume out of it!

Agree with the above, also the Source Audio filters can cop a good down sweep too. I've sold my Zoom units now, but they have a really good Q-Tron model in them, although I can't remember if they can do a down sweep, anyone able to confirm?

If it happens to be a Roadworn or Highway One it will have a nitro finish which is thinner and less shiny than the usual paint job.

What are you using right now and what's the power rating of it? It should be written on it somewhere in A or mA. 1A should handle that lot no problem - it's the digital pedals that chew through the poower though, you can't run too many of those off a supply only designed to power one pedal.

The bass one adds a DI, tuner and headphone amp though (as well as a bit more on the FX side), so I would expect it to cost more.

You shouldn't need a noise gate, if you have excess noise issues it's best to try and work out where they are coming from and fix the problem there. Pedals often used for slap are EQ to scoop the mids, compressor/limiter to tame the peaks, and a filter to add funk. The best filter I've ever played for slap is the MXR Bass Envelope Filter.
