1. It's great for those that want to mix and match, e.g. getting a P with a J neck or vice versa.
2. Most headphone amps and mixers are designed for mic or line sources and don't have a high impedance input suitable for direct connection to a passive bass. Those Behringer mixers people posted earlier (I'm selling one!) fall into this bracket. You can just plug in a passive bass but the tone will suffer as a result. Do you have an active bass, or a pedal you can use in between? If not then get something specifically marketed as a guitar/bass practice unit. I have a PJB Bighead and cannot fault it, there's one used on here right now but at £110 it's probably more than you want to spend: http://basschat.co.u...-headphone-amp/ The Vox Amplug is a cheap solution - make sure you get the bass version, and there is a an improved v2 out now too (which also means v1 versions are cheap as chips on eBay). The Zoom B1on is about £40 and has a headphone amp, aux in, tuner, drum machine, looper, and 100 FX, which is stupendous value. However the headphone amp is not powerful enough to drive the higher impedance headphones that are commonly used in studios. It was OK with my earbuds but quiet as a mouse when plugging in the big cans.
3. Pitchfork 'only' gives his album 9 out of 10, Kanye, insulted, wants white people to stop reviewing it: http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/kanye-west-white-publications_us_56c27e0ae4b08ffac12643f3?ir=Entertainment&section=us_entertainment&utm_hp_ref=entertainment
4. Just when I thought he couldn't be any more of a complete and utter twunt, he goes and ups his levels of twuntery tenfold.
5. Indeed, if I get one it won't be from this country!
6.
The doubler isolates your compressor. For the rest of them Gigrig do an Isolator. Isolated power supplies separate all the outputs of a supply so they are not all interfering with eachother. The distributors are basically daisy chains (although they are nice and neat). In my system i run my generator via a daisy chain into 3 isolators, a supernova, an evenflo adapters and a distributor (some pedals don't really like isolated outputs, but it's best to isolate if you can). I use a noisegate on my zoom ms60b to cut out the noise from my dirt pedals. How i set it was to set threshold to minimum (so it does nothing), engage all my pedals, and increase the threshold (without playing) until the background noise just stops.
If you aren't running that Zoom isolated, you might find your pedals are extra noisy just by having it plugged into the power supply. I've always run a daisy chain, and always had to relegate any Zoom or EHX digital pedals to their own separate 9v supply to cure noise issues.
http://basschat.co.u...ost__p__2709144

Road accident statistics: Between 2000 and 2014, one in four of the pedestrians knocked down on the Abbey Road zebra crossing were not wearing shoes.
I could even believe that!
8. Could be any combination ofthe following! Some pedals are just noisy. My Aguilar Agro has a white noise hiss no matter how I power or isolate it. Some are susceptible to radio interference. Some pedals amplify the hell out of any existing noise and cause feedback. Big Muffs do it, the worst I've heard for this is the Boss ODB-3. Also some pedals leak noise into the power supply where it enters other pedals if they are sharing the same supply. A lot of Zoom and EHX digital effects do this. There is a workaround to wire a capacitor up to the DC jack to perform some filtering that I've seen someone have success with in a recent Talkbass thread!
9. I used to drive down Abbey Road fairly regularly, there were always tourists hanging around by the crossing trying to recreate the famous album cover. Cars slow down or stop to let people cross but 99% of them have no intention of crossing so wave the drivers on to pass through. Other cars that are used to it don't even bother to slow down and just assume nobody wants to cross - an accident waiting to happen!
10. Yes! You could always wait for this: http://youtu.be/crktZIiLKjQ Their site says 'Coming Summer 2015' so it must be delayed!
11. It sounds like it also simulates a blanket over the cab - it's a bit too boomy and way too dark for my liking! Even through headphones, I prefer the sound of it off. This GK box is an attractive alternative to purchasing yet another box (e.g. Torpedo or OmniCabSim) just for cab duties.
12. Source Audio OFD is one of the best options for covering the whole spectrum of drive with presets. They are just about to release another distortion pedal though, the Aftershock!
13. Very interested in this. Just picked up the new Two Notes Le Bass which sounds great, but I don't like its cab sim very much, plus this GK has an aux in and USB interface so it could replace my PJB Bighead, as well as having a compressor and tuner
14. I saw Breakbeat Era live, was probably year 2000 and not heard of them since! Might be worth getting an SFX Thumpinator to filter out the subsonic rumble going to your rig, especially if you have some resonant low pass filters going on!
15. I haven't been in a band for a few years now but still love playing along to other tracks or a drum machine or even just solo (mainly through a headphone amp since the nipper arrived!). I keep thinking I'd like to get into it again but know I'd just get fed up of the commitment after a while!
16. The main reason for using a loop is if you are using amp overdrive and want to put certain effects after the distortion. Most floor based multis are designed to run at instrument level whereas effects loops usually (but not always) run at a hotter line level. If your amp does then you may be better off looking at rack based effects that are more line level friendly, but there might be some floor based ones out there that can handle it! Your only other option is a signal reducer and signal booster all in the loop with the B3, but then we're approaching overkill!
17.
Does this count? https://www.youtube....h?v=QMWUYMWlEyo
I somehow just knew what this would be before even clicking on it!
18. Someone who spends more time on forums or watching Youtube demos of gear than they do practising their instrument?
19. I'd love to but they are expensive and I can just flap my hand about left to right for free!
20.
I thought everyone just used it to host stuff for linking to from elsewhere online... kinda like photobucket. Didn't really think there was much else to it.
That's their problem, everyone has been using it this way and not caring or looking to see what else they offer - and since they allow embedding clips into forum posts and such, they probably miss out on a lot of advertising revenue from people not even visiting the site. Easy to use Dropbox or Box etc for hosting clips anyway, but if they do go down there will be a lot of forum threads hosting clips with missing content!
21. Because you need them obviously!
22. Now when I say invented, I mean I just thought this up after playing for years and thought the results were so good I would share. There are probably countless other people already doing it and I'm just late to the party. It woudn't be the first time - I came up with a guitar riff when I was 15 only to learn a few years later that Hendrix ripped me off when a bought a new CD of unreleased material! People always complain about the B string sounding so different to the other strings, that when you skip to the B it's always obvious since the tonality changes to much. I just came up with a simple solution, move your plucking hand further to the bridge when playing the B string. I can now play a run going from the E to the B sliding my plucking hand left and right as I do so and they now sound like the same string! The same technique can be used in the other direction if your D & G strings are too twangy and you want to fatten them up. My right hand used to stay anchored in the same position, now it's floating about all over the shop like it's been possessed, but my tone has improved as a result! Anyone else already do this?
23.
Thanks for reminding me. The bass features a proprietary Fujigen patented fret system, called cirecular fret system (CFS) It is not different in use than the normal fret system, but according to FGN it provides certain advantages
Makes total sense for accurate intonation when you think about it (not convinced about the rest though), never seen or heard of such a system before, consider me schooled!
