This is the latest filter creation from Mike Beigel, creator of the original Mutron III. Widely regarded to nail the original Mutron III sounds with even more options including a blended bandpass mode and a switchable adjustable preamp to adjust overall volume. I bought this direct from the manufacturer site last year, snagging one of the limited edition signed versions. This one is even more rare as it is labelled Mu-Tron instead of Tru-Tron - they were unable to use the Mutron name in the US due to copyright issues, but somehow they were allowed to use the name in Europe. These pedals are now out of stock on mu-fx.com. Why am I selling? It's a contender for the best envelope filter I've ever used, but I really want to try out a Lovetone Meatball and don't want to have over £600 tied up in filters! So would trade for a Meatball (as long as it's in good condition). http://mu-fx.com/store/trutron-3x/ SOLD

Bought these recently to try them out but I prefer my trusty DT-770s. They have had very little use and are in excellent condition along with the original packaging. Stock pic below, I can upload actual photos tomorrow (if they are still here!). If he were trying to con he wouldn't post the Mexican serial and a pic of the headstock saying Made In Mexico. Bless his cotton socks, perhaps he's just a few sandwiches short of a picnic. -
Same goes for overdrive/distortion/fuzz, except they are even more divisive!

Darkglass BXK is a perfect fit for the Dingwall NG-2 and Thumb. I think they sound best with a naturally scooped growly bass and not so great with a Precision though (I prefer the Vulcan with a P). If you're after something more compressed and amp-like, yet still growly as you like and works wonderfully with just about any bass, check out the Aguilar Agro or VT Bass. The Creation Audio Grizzly and Two Notes Le Bass also would also fit well but I've yet to try them!

The reason you don't see any responses or bumps is that you aren't allowed to respond or bump! Reason is I believe people were abusing it by posting their for sale items as responses instead of paying the fee to list them properly.
Probably the EHX Bass Soul Food for me. Great sounding drive for very little money. Nuff said.

Bass soul food. Amazing pedal. Superb value for money. I wouldn't do without it now. Fits in every situation I've used it

I agree on the soul food,my best for the year

EHX Bass Soul Food for me. Is always on and has helped my Genz Streamliner come alive and cut through a Guitard heavy mix. Love it.
Official BC Pedal of the Year?

Great idea, could never be bothered with the full on composition challenge, but I have oodles of noodles!
I don't know if you guys have seen this vid (it seems new). It features a Frog with an ACG/East filter preamp with familiar looking pickups. In fact the general look of the area of the bass shown in the vid is very familiar. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bh2asjr2k8c
Look a lot like Wal pickups to me, anyone have any idea if they are similar?

My fave uncommon colour combo on that Sandberg - would look even tastier with cream coloured pickup covers I reckon!
Oh not seen that BC-1X yet, looks interesting. As does the BB-1X bass driver.
The BB-1X looks better than it sounds unfortunately!

The Manta does have expression input, but you either have to use their exp pedal or buy the hub to use a different one.

Only downside with the MXR is you might have to crank the sensitivity if playing softly with a passive bass, you did say that was a problem with your Proton (which I believe is fixed in the newer Protons btw!).

I've tried a ton of filters: 3Leaf Proton, Groove Regulator, GR2, Wonderlove EHX Bassballs, Enigma Q-Balls, Mini Q-Tron (not the newer Micro), original Q-Tron Keeley Neutrino Beigel Tru-Tron 3X WMD Fatman MXR Bass Envelope Filter Boss FT-2 Tonefactor 442 Zoom Multi-FX (B1Xon, B3) My favourites are the two old Q-Trons. The original sounds best with playing low down and is more versatile, but the Mini has a certain something that makes it extra funky even though it doesn't sweep as low. These can be picked up used very cheaply, only downside is their size (the Mini is not very mini!) and power requirements (Mini is 9v but has a funky socket, original is 24v). 2nd fave is the TruTron 3X. Apparently (I've not tried one) it does everything the original Mutron III does plus more (being designed by the same guy, who also incidentally did the original Q-Trons). However since I only play these pedals occasionally for fun and it's a pretty expensive unit, I'm thinking of moving it on. 3rd for me is the GR2 and Groove Regulator (GR2 just edges it). Amazing versatility, great envelope action, very fat sounding but just not as wet sounding as the 'Trons. 4th is the MXR. Not as fat since it's a bandpass mixed with clean, but it is the best filter for slap and can get some very unique sounds. Of course other people could list the total reverse order to me as everyone has different preferences, filters are a very personal effect and respond uniquely to different playing styles and basses! The ones I have not tried but really want to are the Chunk Systems 00Funk (hard to come by though) and Source Audio Manta. The Manta has so many filter models built in I'd be amazed if you didn't find one you liked. The Zoom units also do a very nice model of the Q-Tron and a couple of others and are cheap as chips (especially if you buy my used B1xon!).

I get low output and distortion due to some dodgy patch cables from time to time. So ordered some new cables and one of these last night! https://www.music-group.com/Categories/Behringer/Accessories/Cable-Testers/CT100/p/P0133

Very unlikely, it's more likely to be a pedal or a cable at fault.

Yamaha BB has a nut width of 42mm, same as a 4-string P. But the comfiest 5 string neck I've had is my Warwick though - it has narrower spacing at the bridge, the neck doesn't look too slim but somehow it feels like it is and fits my small hands perfectly!
-
I'd just go for some glow in the dark side markers. You can't see the front dots when playing anyway!
-
Buy my Zoom B1xon ;-)
