I thought a Stingray already had a similar profile to a Precision (and a Sterling more slim like a Jazz)? If your P with a J style neck is too thin, you either want to go for a standard P (42mm at the nut) or the fatter vintage style P neck (more like 47mm). The Matt Freeman is quite slim as P's go. If you want a chunky maple neck you should check out the Classic 50s, Road Worn or the Steve Harris sig (or American Vintage line but thats $). Are there any shops on the Isle of Wight where you can demo some?

Just seen this elsewhere (http://interestingengineering.com/acoustic-instrument-yaybahar-creates-the-most-incredible-sounds-you-will-hear-today) and was about to post before it turned up in a search. Bump for awesomeness!
I principally use fuzz, phaser, reverse delay, chorus, pooper.
I bet that sounds crap! Are you dead set on a rack? Lots of people are turning their backs on rack setups these days to go the iPad route. Easier to tweak, less to carry, tons more flexibility and cheap to upgrade. Certainly worth investigating if you haven't even considered it! Apps such as BIAS FX, BIAS Pedal, and BIAS Amp already offer more than many rack units. If you happen to already have an iDevice you are halfway there, you just need a £65 interface and some apps from the store. Check this blog out for starters: http://www.tayste.co.uk/2014/02/24/the-ios-bassist-pt1-an-introduction/

Phil Jones H-850 headphones and Edifier H850 the same?
dannybuoy replied to Karl Derrick's topic in General Discussion
Thanks, I was thinking of getting some of the PJBs, so that's saved me some dough! -
Team Awesome Fuzz Machine - there's one in the classifieds too!

I very nearly picked that up myself! Rehousing and adding a volume knob to my Mini Q is on my to-do list!
-
It's one of the best filters I've ever used! Very versatile indeed. It's a bit quackier than the Q-Trons, i.e. the attack time is quicker - which works really well for faster playing, but I feel the slower response of the Q-Trons, paired with the fact they are warmer/dirtier, makes them more vocal and expressive. I have pondered moving on the Mu as I don't play it as much as the Mini Q and it's worth a decent wedge - but I'll probably end up keeping all of them!
Here's what came with the pedal, I got it from Thomann so I can plug it straight into an EU to UK adapter and into the mains, works a treat.
I can see just out of shot that yours has a logo next to the Mutron text. Mine doesn't, but I always thought it was supposed to since the text is off centre!

I got an old big box Q-Tron recently. More Mutron like and less distorted than the Mini Q-Tron, but out of all of them I think the Mini Q is still my favourite. Will do some deciding this weekend to see if I want to hang on to the Mutron 3X or not!

I answered on your TB thread - but your pedal is probably fine if it's silent on a battery, I would try an alternative power supply!

This sucker analyses your pedals to recreate them in software. If I can clone my Blueberry, Team Awesome Fuzz Machine and B7K in this, I might have to sell my pedals! You can also take any of the guitar pedals and fine tune the filters at each gain stage to let more low end through and also add a clean blend. Looks like the iPad version does not support the tone match feature though. But I wonder if I could capture my pedals on PC and then transfer them (it sounds as if you can!)? http://youtu.be/JyUHVIKFNDo

Alder, basswood, ash? - nah - tortilla
dannybuoy replied to Bassman Steve's topic in General Discussion
I don't know about you, but I find the whole idea rather corny. -
The Tech21 has a blend knob, set to the left the EQ will be active but without the amp modelling (or sansansamp!). Then you will have a pretty clean amp that you can then flavour with your choice of preamp pedal if you like.
I'm going to throw the G-K MB500 in there.
And there is (was?) an MB500 Fusion (with extra tubey goodness) going for £400 in the classifieds recently!

Woes of a flobby B - anything that can improve the situation?
dannybuoy replied to Naetharu's topic in Bass Guitars
I think there are two separate issues that some people have - 'floppiness' or a lack of note definition. Setup and a string change can make a world of difference for both of these issues - I've had basses where I hated the low B until I put a new set of strings on - so start there, especially if you're still on the stock strings. Take extra special care to ensure there is no degree of twist in the string as it is tightened up - this can kill the sound. Construction helps too. I can see how this might help note definition - increased stiffness and decreased damping in the neck material and body join will stop the higher order harmonics being absorbed as quickly, which results in a brighter sound making it easier for your ear to detect the pitch. But I can't see this affecting 'floppiness' much unless the neck is so bendy that plucking the low B makes the neck bow sufficiently to slacken the string momentarily and make it clack against the frets. Increased scale length also helps, but I have played 34" basses with better B's than some 35" basses, so it's not a cure-all by itself. As for only expensive basses having good sounding B's - that may have been true 5-10 years ago, but it certainly isn't today. The 'best' low B (i.e. the most clear piano like tone) I have played comes from a 34" Warwick Rockbass Streamer that cost £280 new - although it does have a 5 piece laminated quarter-sawn neck which is not common at this price point! Even the low end Yamaha necks have a similar construction these days. -
Don't forget your chorus pedal!

There are no plugins installed, and Chrome on Android no longer supports them. The issue seems to be that the site is trying to serve up Flash content to my Android device when it used to deliver them via HTML5. Safari and Chrome are still able to play embedded content on my iPad, and none of these devices have ever had Flash player installed. Assuming the site hasn't had any code changes recently, this was probably broken by a recent change in Chrome for Android. But since I don't have any issues viewing similar embedded content in other sites such as Talkbass, this suggests that whatever the issue is, it should in theory be fixable at your end!

This has become an issue again, I've tried multiple Android phones with Chrome and Firefox, both are getting a 'missing plugin' box instead of an embedded video. iOS works fine and that doesn't support Flash - so these videos must be able to play over HTML 5 but something is broken when it comes to Android!

Westone Raider hair metal bass on Gumtree - £100!
dannybuoy replied to The Admiral's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
£100 for a Wealdstone Raider? Perhaps the price is low because they've got no fans? -
If you do go the all-valve route, you should probably look at the Ampeg V4B instead of the SVT. 100W vs 300W - not only cheaper and lighter, but let's you get the sound of pushed tubes at useable volumes. You would blow the roof off of most small venues with an SVT + 810 if you wanted those power tubes cooking nicely!

Check out the Epiphone Jack Casady bass too.
