Only used a couple of times - I bought a set of Sony in-ear Bluetooth headphones and prefer to use these on the go, so these have been mostly sat in the box! Best price online is currently £134, will sell for £85 posted. More pics here: http://imgur.com/a/2iXGq
2. I thought it sounded like an poorly tracking, mediocre sounding octave coupled with an OK sounding overdrive. You could do better!
3.
I don't know which is which but I preferred #1, seems a bit more lively in the upper mids, #2 is fatter/warmer. Since I have no idea what the pickup is like in the Jake, I'm going to say #1 is the P since 70's pickups are supposedly a bit lighter on the low end and more growly up top.
Boom!
http://www.gak.co.uk/en/yamaha-bb425-standard-bb-red-metallic/48075 A steal at that price.
These are GREAT basses, played one for years.
6. I found the Proton a bit too subtle also, but much preferred it to the Wonderlove, I just couldn't dial in a good sound to fit my playing with that pedal. The Groove Regulator blows both of them away though I reckon. I've not had a chance to try the GR2 but word is it's even better - and since one went up for sale in the classifieds today and they don't come up that often, I advise you to jump on it!
7. Yeah I was (am) a similar novice solderer and I found it easy enough - I'm taking some pictures of some basses tonight so will retake some of the innards of this pedal while I'm at it! In fact I bought the nano version as a replacement intending to mod that too but never got round to it - so the original modded BBM will be up for sale at some point!
8. I'm sure I heard it on the radio well over a week ago - sounds just like Michael Jackson's Earth Song!
9.
I am still waiting for the new WMD Protostar filter, should have an early one when it is eventually released
Not heard of that one! I am looking forward to the Mr Black Fwonk (demo on PedalsAndEffects on YouTube).
10. Not all flats are sticky - TIs and Pyramids for example are pretty silky straight out of the box, but I did feel quite a bit of friction with a set of La Bellas until they had been broken in.
11. Also some amps have a bass boost button (e.g. Ampeg, GK) which is not the same as the sub/octaver found in amps like Ashdown. But people press them as they think they are playing bass so therefore need lots of bass.
If you can buy a bass rig with an inbuilt octaver, can you also buy one with an inbuilt fuzz, chorus, flanger, and envelope filter?
My first amp did! A Line 6 Lowdown. Also the Markbass MultiAmp has all this and more, there are probably a few others out there (TC Toneprints and Kemper Profiler spring to mind).
12. Do Fender offer the 'American Design Experience' over here? That seems the way to go if you want a new Fender P with a J neck. http://www2.fender.c...gn/instruments/
13. Just bought an iPad Air 2. I expect to have new toys coming later this year! I have some pedals that I'm not sure I could ever replace with digital equivalents (e.g. Bearfoot Blueberry, TAFM, B7K, Mini Q-Tron) but I'm sure gonna have some fun trying!
14. That's a lot of coin. I think I'd rather go with an iPad setup with the required foot controllers, audio interfaces and apps.
15. Some good bargains on American Vintage and other lines, better than half price in some cases: http://www.gak.co.uk/en/fender-usa-flash-sale
16. Jeepers, biggest control cavity and preamp fitted to a bass ever?!
17. Prices have been pushing up since Fender Japan disappeared, but you're looking around the £500 - £600 mark depending on condition. Some of the export models have basswood bodies which go for less also.
18. If anything the sim will roll off the really deep lows and give your sub an easier time.
19. If a Ginger is what you want you can buy them too: http://vfepedals.com/runoffgroove.html
20. VFE build them to order to your spec, very reasonably priced too! http://vfepedals.com/runoffgroove.html http://vfecustom.com/wizard/create?family=1&variation=115
21. I have severe GAS for a Hellwood 5 with purpleheart instead of padouk. Has anyone figured out how to pronounce Maruszczyk yet? Morris? Maroosk? Not enough vowels in the last half of that word for my liking!
22. There was no link in the email - just a request to reply to the @fender.com email address. I see zero cause for concern unless someone managed to hack that guy's fender.com email address and was asking you to click on dodgy links or send money transfers for P&P!
23. I've used a VT Bass for this in the past, but I prefer the way the Darkglass Vintage Deluxe colours the sound as an amp sim. I've yet to try the Aguilar Tone Hammer for this application, but it also has a high-end roll-off with the AGS engaged.
