1. Not all flats are sticky - TIs and Pyramids for example are pretty silky straight out of the box, but I did feel quite a bit of friction with a set of La Bellas until they had been broken in.
2. Also some amps have a bass boost button (e.g. Ampeg, GK) which is not the same as the sub/octaver found in amps like Ashdown. But people press them as they think they are playing bass so therefore need lots of bass.
If you can buy a bass rig with an inbuilt octaver, can you also buy one with an inbuilt fuzz, chorus, flanger, and envelope filter?
My first amp did! A Line 6 Lowdown. Also the Markbass MultiAmp has all this and more, there are probably a few others out there (TC Toneprints and Kemper Profiler spring to mind).
3. Do Fender offer the 'American Design Experience' over here? That seems the way to go if you want a new Fender P with a J neck. http://www2.fender.c...gn/instruments/
4. Just bought an iPad Air 2. I expect to have new toys coming later this year! I have some pedals that I'm not sure I could ever replace with digital equivalents (e.g. Bearfoot Blueberry, TAFM, B7K, Mini Q-Tron) but I'm sure gonna have some fun trying!
5. That's a lot of coin. I think I'd rather go with an iPad setup with the required foot controllers, audio interfaces and apps.
6. Some good bargains on American Vintage and other lines, better than half price in some cases: http://www.gak.co.uk/en/fender-usa-flash-sale
7. Jeepers, biggest control cavity and preamp fitted to a bass ever?!
8. Prices have been pushing up since Fender Japan disappeared, but you're looking around the £500 - £600 mark depending on condition. Some of the export models have basswood bodies which go for less also.
9. If anything the sim will roll off the really deep lows and give your sub an easier time.
10. If a Ginger is what you want you can buy them too: http://vfepedals.com/runoffgroove.html
11. VFE build them to order to your spec, very reasonably priced too! http://vfepedals.com/runoffgroove.html http://vfecustom.com/wizard/create?family=1&variation=115
12. I have severe GAS for a Hellwood 5 with purpleheart instead of padouk. Has anyone figured out how to pronounce Maruszczyk yet? Morris? Maroosk? Not enough vowels in the last half of that word for my liking!
13. There was no link in the email - just a request to reply to the @fender.com email address. I see zero cause for concern unless someone managed to hack that guy's fender.com email address and was asking you to click on dodgy links or send money transfers for P&P!
14. I've used a VT Bass for this in the past, but I prefer the way the Darkglass Vintage Deluxe colours the sound as an amp sim. I've yet to try the Aguilar Tone Hammer for this application, but it also has a high-end roll-off with the AGS engaged.
15.
Yes try that. Dont hit reply, if it is Phishing, that is what they want you to do. Hope its for real :-)
Nah, just reply! Only worry if the email you are replying to or any links in the email do not belong to fender.com. Looks legit to me.

Phaser

I found the Small Stone a bit too dark and switched to the standard Phase 90. Both are great options though, no low end loss with either!
17. Yamaha BB415 / 425 / 425X, Squier Vintage Modified Jazz or Precision, or Sire Marcus Miller V7.
18. Check out this video: http://youtu.be/mFVcVg_nbBc A few different MM type basses there, the Status necked Stingray sounds very growly compared to the others - but that Alusonic eats them all for breakfast! Not sure of the exact specs of out but from another of his videos I saw it has an Aguilar OPB-1 pre.
19. If you have the wiring loom from the CV, can't you just transplant that into the new bass without having to solder anything? Depends if there is a channel routed for the pickup wires, some Precisions just have a hole drilled.
20. Not sure why they aren't so popular, but they do still exist! http://www.purple-chili.com/iceni-zoot/
21. And Prymaxe, you get a discount if you ask them too!
22. That is nice - I hear pau ferro makes a really growly sound for fretless too!
23. From your description it sound like you definitely want the Vintage Deluxe. The B7K can be made to sound warm, but it's definitely more at home as a bright / scooped / cutting kinda sound, whereas the Vintage is just vintage warm loveliness.
24.
is there anything out there that is cheaper than a mu tron that does the funk almost as good? I've tried EHX q-tron, horrible, Dod 25fb sucks tone any really good squelchy filter available today to actually buy in a shop, not some rare boutique pedal where there was only ever 3 made by some guy in a garage in wisconsin, and even then it was unreliable and you cant get the chips anymore and ....... ie off the shelf instant Funk, without searching on ebay for months to get 'that' pedal... i don;t want hassle I just want to FUNK!!!
Which Q-Tron did you try? The new ones aren't great, but the old big box one and the seemingly-mistitled-because-it's-massive old Mini Q-Tron are a different kettle of fish. I prefer my Mini Q-Tron to my TruTron 3X (which is widely regarded to be a pretty much bang on clone of the original Mutron 3 with extra features). The old Q-Trons were designed by Mike Beigel of Mutron too!
25. I always preferred Precisions when it came to fretless, but after hearing a fretless Stingray, that is what I'd choose next: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HnnewhuLuj8
