I would give the MXR M82 a go for this. Not dead on but can sound pretty vowel like, kinda like Bon Jovi's Livin' On A Prayer! Just tried it for myself and it good enough to fool most of the audience!

My 415 had a satin finish and my 1025X has either a very thin finish or no finish at all, hard to tell!

Si [/quote] Never had that problem, with the EQ set flat (as I always have it) it sounds like it boosts the mids to my ears, certainly makes it more prominent in the mix with it on! Same goes for the Blower Box, the reason it sounds scooped in many demos is because the bass and treble controls are usually set to be boosted.

I saw a bass on Youtube where the owner had sandwiched an MM pickup between the Jazz pickups. It was slightly north of the MM sweet spot, but I reckon it should be possible to get it spot on with a Jazz with a 70s position bridge pickup to give a bit more room.

What's the fan noise like on this? That's one thing that bugs me about some amps, quietness of the fan seems to not be a design goal for some. I've no problem with it blaring full speed at a gig, but when practicing at home and the thing is barely warm, a noisy fan is most unwelcome. It made me return my TH500 for example, it used to kick in really noisily after 10 minutes of play!

Ah, but plenty of us have used the VT Bass DI into another amp, and can extrapolate that this new amp would probably sound very similar but without the option of disabling the speaker sim!

I have a Squier CV Jazz neck in my posession that I want to turn into a cheap bitsa P-Bass, so I've been looking at the best cheap way to get my hands on a good looking 3-tone sunburst P body. The BB has more clarity and raunchiness, more Geezer Butler!

A sheet of closed cell foam from eBay does the trick for me, especially useful if you need to clear a top mounted handle:

I've heard some murmurings about this new pickup over at TB: http://www.talkbass.com/threads/lauzon-p-bass-strat-pickup-full-review.1146948/ It's a high output split coil P pup, that achieves its hotter signal not via more coil windings or fatter pole pieces, but by using a taller pickup, supposedly inspired by Strat pickups. They are supposed to have extended range top and bottom without the mid scoop of Quarter Pounders, yet still sound vintage. Sounds intriguing so I just placed an order! Worked out about £70 all in due to ripoff postage costs from Canada, but similarly priced to many boutique pickups over here anyway and this one offers something a little different!

[/quote] It would be useful to emulate the high end rolloff of an Ampeg fridge with modern tweeter-equipped bass cabs... But you should be able to switch it off to open up the top end if you are already using a tweeterless cab. But then when Tech 21 introduced a button to disable the cab sim on their pedals, it added a low pass filter, defeating the object (IMHO)! They kind of remedied the situation with the VTDI, relegating that filter to a separate bite button. Now on this amp we have the bite button but no cab sim button. Oh well. I don't like the way the VT cab sim sounds with fuzz in front of it by the way. Always sounded unnatural more like a resonant LPF instead of a natural cab rolloff. The Darkglass Vintage 'cab sim' (apostrophied as it is not marketed as a cab sim even though it effectively is one) sounds much better with fuzz in front to my ears.

That looks cool, it'd look killer with a Status neck! For those of us that cannot be bothered to google it, is it a simple process that's easy to achieve at home?

Tech 21 pedals are made in the US though, where child slave labour is a bit trickier to get away with.
