1. I would try and find a blender with a phase switch (e.g. One Control Mosquite, Wounded Paw, Wee Lush FX) so that you could use it with more pedals. You might have been lucky so far and not had any phase inverting pedals that you wanted to blend, but that luck could run out!
2. I believe they have the wider, more P-like neck (but I could be wrong as I've never owned one). The cheaper Ray4 / Ray5, and USA made Sterling or Stingray SLO Special have the slimmer neck.
3. Just ordered a set for my P! If I ever get a custom bass I think I just found my luthier. A Hellwood with a Wenge neck and Purpleheart board/pups instead of Padouk is pretty much my dream bass.
4.
Here's a bit'o'noodling with flats. It's just recorded on a Zoom Q2, so it's far from the peak of sonic excellence:
That sounds great, which flats are those?
5. Tracktion is supposedly pretty simple to use. v4 is available for free and v6 is only $60: http://www.tracktion.com Anyone here used it?
6. Start with the first self-titled RATM album! He also has some solo stuff out as The Nightwatchman.
7. I'm curious to know if the blend is pre or post EQ? From memory the blend on the DI version is post EQ and the clean signal is not affected by the EQ. I'd like the idea of having a flat clean amp if I turned the blend all the way down, yet still be able to make EQ adjustments.
8. Not surprised they wouldn't let you in with that, looks like it could be used as a weapon!
9.
for instance, scratch DJing has evolved into something called turntablism, which is quite exciting to watch/listen to, albeit in small doses - example here:
Not really been into it since the late 90s / early 00s when DJ Craze was the world champ so not sure who the top guys are these days... But check this guy out! One of the few out there that can maintain the rhythm in time whilst beat juggling!
10.
im wondering if the w&c phat Phuk B will get me there?
In a word, no!
11. VT Bass, Aguilar Agro, Darkglass B*K
12. It's not really a DAW, but worth mentioning StaffPad here as a composition tool:
13.
Surely a bass Uke with steel strings would never work because the scale length would be too short. Wouldn't you need utterly ludicrously high gauge strings to get anything like a reasonable tension?
Not quite steel, but these are copper wound on a silk core: They also do tapewounds I believe.
14. Kala killer? http://ortegaguitars.com/en/product-finder/acoustic-basses/acoustic-bass/show/Product/pm-shaman/pm-shaman/ http://www.thomann.de/gb/ortega_pmsm_ltd.htm Looks great, has the Pahoehoe strings which I prefer to the Thunderguts, a bit longer than a U-Bass too.
15. I doubt metal strings would help much - you'll either need a bigger bass like the Aquila Shortbass One, or an amp. Here's the Shortbass One unamplified with some ukes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xC2tEIFBS5U
16.
This is a tiny cheap blend pedal that you might find useful.
17. Very tempted! Some great sounds in there, particularly bridge + middle and bridge + neck. Would love to whack a set of flats on one of these!
18. Yeah, there's an A/B/Y switch behind the wah splitting the signal, so one of those tuners is just an expensive mute pedal!
19. I don't know of very many cheap ones that are usable on bass except for the EHX Bass Big Muff, Mooer Thunderball and Mooer Fog.
20. Not a massive hip-hop-head, but I do love a bit of J5 and Charlie Tuna!
21. ... and when I've ordered pedals from them I've not liked, I've been able to return them for free as well, which is a great service. I assume the same would apply to a bass even though the shipping costs are much higher and Thomann would end up losing out? But perhaps in the end they win if more people buy their stuff from them as a result.
22. A box just for putting them in serial like the OBBM one above makes more sense - to hook them up in parallel just use the built in thru-jacks on the cab, or multiple outputs on the amp. Unless of course neither your amp nor cab have these!
23. I've always thought burgundy mist really suited an old Jazz bass.
24. The Blower Box is an awesome low-medium gain pedal. Not transparent though. Sounds terrible at high gain if you ask me!
