1. I saw a bass on Youtube where the owner had sandwiched an MM pickup between the Jazz pickups. It was slightly north of the MM sweet spot, but I reckon it should be possible to get it spot on with a Jazz with a 70s position bridge pickup to give a bit more room.

3. What's the fan noise like on this? That's one thing that bugs me about some amps, quietness of the fan seems to not be a design goal for some. I've no problem with it blaring full speed at a gig, but when practicing at home and the thing is barely warm, a noisy fan is most unwelcome. It made me return my TH500 for example, it used to kick in really noisily after 10 minutes of play!
4. Ah, but plenty of us have used the VT Bass DI into another amp, and can extrapolate that this new amp would probably sound very similar but without the option of disabling the speaker sim!
5.
I'm just happy they don't make a maple fingerboard version, so my GAS is safe phew
You were saying? (edit - looks like I was beaten to it!)
6. I have a Squier CV Jazz neck in my posession that I want to turn into a cheap bitsa P-Bass, so I've been looking at the best cheap way to get my hands on a good looking 3-tone sunburst P body. J&D have a P and a PJ, both a supposedly 3TS, but as you can see look very different in the stock photos: http://www.dv247.com...unburst--201745 http://www.dv247.com...unburst--201881 It's the more orangey colour of the PJ I'm after but would prefer a straight P. Has anyone seen these basses in the flesh that can confirm if these stock pics are representative of the actual colours?
7.
how do those two compare? until (along with a few other pedals) my BB preamp was nicked recently, it was my only low gain o/d... I was going to replace it as I always loved it, but the bear foot has me interested - do you use both??
Yeah, I use both. The Blueberry sounds softer, tubier, squelchier, more Motown. The BB has more clarity and raunchiness, more Geezer Butler!
8. A sheet of closed cell foam from eBay does the trick for me, especially useful if you need to clear a top mounted handle:
9.
Succotash
10. ^ Nice I have a Mini Q-Tron that needs a volume mod and re-house, a Bearfoot Blueberry, B7K, BB Preamp (similar sound to the CM-2) on my 'board' (i.e. floor) right now, so some similarities there!
11. I've heard some murmurings about this new pickup over at TB: http://www.talkbass.com/threads/lauzon-p-bass-strat-pickup-full-review.1146948/ It's a high output split coil P pup, that achieves its hotter signal not via more coil windings or fatter pole pieces, but by using a taller pickup, supposedly inspired by Strat pickups. They are supposed to have extended range top and bottom without the mid scoop of Quarter Pounders, yet still sound vintage. Sounds intriguing so I just placed an order! Worked out about £70 all in due to ripoff postage costs from Canada, but similarly priced to many boutique pickups over here anyway and this one offers something a little different!
12.
There's a load of possibilities but I'd be going for a BB425 from GAK at £249 - oh wait, I did It was my main gigging bass until I bought my BB1025
Same here, had a BB415 and now have a BB1025X. I have several more expensive basses but this is the one I pick up most often!
Was going to suggest Yamaha. They work, although they ain't all that pretty.
I think this is pretty:
13. Welcome another Danny, I've seen your band play before, top drawer!
14. A quick google search turned up these guys: http://www.hydro-graffix.co.uk/ http://www.wickedcoatings.co.uk/ They have examples of camo and carbonand others... no bass/guitar examples that I can see but looks like they could do it. I wonder if they could do tort?! With a sunburst scratchplate....
15.
Oh well, i think thats me out. I dont know why i would want a speaker sim when im using a speaker. Maybe this was why i never got on with the VTBass v1 i had for a few weeks a few years ago.
It would be useful to emulate the high end rolloff of an Ampeg fridge with modern tweeter-equipped bass cabs... But you should be able to switch it off to open up the top end if you are already using a tweeterless cab. But then when Tech 21 introduced a button to disable the cab sim on their pedals, it added a low pass filter, defeating the object (IMHO)! They kind of remedied the situation with the VTDI, relegating that filter to a separate bite button. Now on this amp we have the bite button but no cab sim button. Oh well. I don't like the way the VT cab sim sounds with fuzz in front of it by the way. Always sounded unnatural more like a resonant LPF instead of a natural cab rolloff. The Darkglass Vintage 'cab sim' (apostrophied as it is not marketed as a cab sim even though it effectively is one) sounds much better with fuzz in front to my ears.
16. That looks cool, it'd look killer with a Status neck! For those of us that cannot be bothered to google it, is it a simple process that's easy to achieve at home?
17. Tech 21 pedals are made in the US though, where child slave labour is a bit trickier to get away with.
18. I would try and find a blender with a phase switch (e.g. One Control Mosquite, Wounded Paw, Wee Lush FX) so that you could use it with more pedals. You might have been lucky so far and not had any phase inverting pedals that you wanted to blend, but that luck could run out!
19. I believe they have the wider, more P-like neck (but I could be wrong as I've never owned one). The cheaper Ray4 / Ray5, and USA made Sterling or Stingray SLO Special have the slimmer neck.
20. Just ordered a set for my P! If I ever get a custom bass I think I just found my luthier. A Hellwood with a Wenge neck and Purpleheart board/pups instead of Padouk is pretty much my dream bass.
21.
Here's a bit'o'noodling with flats. It's just recorded on a Zoom Q2, so it's far from the peak of sonic excellence:
That sounds great, which flats are those?
22. Tracktion is supposedly pretty simple to use. v4 is available for free and v6 is only $60: http://www.tracktion.com Anyone here used it?
23. Start with the first self-titled RATM album! He also has some solo stuff out as The Nightwatchman.
24. I'm curious to know if the blend is pre or post EQ? From memory the blend on the DI version is post EQ and the clean signal is not affected by the EQ. I'd like the idea of having a flat clean amp if I turned the blend all the way down, yet still be able to make EQ adjustments.
25. Not surprised they wouldn't let you in with that, looks like it could be used as a weapon!
