1. One sold in Liverpool for £50 on one of the Facebook bass selling groups this weekend!
2. A few passive DI's have this feature, the Radial JDI does as well. The JDX adds a guitar cab sim though I think, which might not be much use on bass!
3.
I clicked on this thread to leave the same comment. I have heard people describe class D as lacking weight or heft in the sound, but the OBT has it in spades. This thing defies the class D myth, if it exists at all. Great amps, loads of punch and meat to the sound. The downside is they are not the most versatile amp and I would recommend swapping the ECC83's for some NOS 81's.
Me too! I've tried a few other class D heads that exhibited the same problem - Genz Benz Streamliner, Ashdown MiBass for example; neither could deliver the heft and thump of the OTB.
4. ... and I've snagged it! I've tried many fuzzes and the only ones I would never sell are the Team Awesome Fuzz Machine (also fuzz face based) and Prunes & Custard - which is quite an old pedal now that doesn't get many mentions, but I heard a demo of it recently that sold me on it, picked one up on eBay and it's incredible. If you are still looking for THAT overdrive - the Bearfoot Blueberry is it for me. The closest I have found to replicating the feel of playing through a cranked amp at low volume levels!
5. PM incoming! I love my TAFM which is also a fuzz face tweaked for bass so wanna check this out.
6. If you happen to have an iPad you should really check out that side of things too. They are powerful enough these days to run full blown amp sims and plenty of people nowadays use an iPad as their main gigging/recording 'preamp'! I've not delved into that side myself, but can imagine that having all the amp/pedal controls right there in front of you on a touch screen would be much better than having to mouse around on a PC.
7. Looks cool, the Fuzz Factory never had much in the way of low end as was fussy with actives, so the blend/bass/impendance controls are all good additions!
8. Not many cheap, decent, bass-friendly dual function overdrive/distortion pedals out there either! I suggest a Hardwire CM-2 (£45 from Amazon), EHX Bass Soul Food (£59) or Glove (£39), or Behringer BDI21 (£21) for overdrive and Bass Big Muff for fuzz (£50 most places), and you can pick up a used 105Q for around £60 or less. Or get a B1Xon to get all of those effects in one box cheaply and quickly, maybe switching certain effects over to separates as you go along!
9.
Are separate pedals really better sounding ? I just switched to a multi effects after using separates, and I think it's much better.
Mostly, separates sound better. But it depends on what effects you're talking about. Overdrive/fuzz/distortion for example is majorly lacking in most multis. Octavers and pitch shifters are usually sub-par also.
10. Go for separate pedals - I don't know of any decent fuzz/wah combos where the fuzz is useable standalone on bass, and the EHX is terrible. The Zoom B1Xon has a decent fuzz model but unfortunately the bass wah isn't too great. A used Dunlop 105Q or Ibanez Weeping Demon would be your best bet for the wah, and for fuzz there's the Bass Big Muff or even the aforementioned Zoom modellers which would give you a decent Bass Big Muff sim and a whole lot more to boot for around the same price!
11. You need to have a meaty J pickup for the combo to sound it's best. The Yamaha BBs sound great with the switch in the middle position for example.
12. I played the Billy Sheehan for 5 minutes and put it back up for sale. My advice would be to steer clear unless you want your bass to sound like a tinny guitar with no low end!
13. I've tried nearly every single bass overdrive on the planet, and the only one that gives me that feeling you describe of playing in front of a cranked amp is the Bearfoot Blueberry. Amazing pedal!
14. Well I Googled it and it turns out he is quite the producer after all: http://www.spin.com/2015/03/101-best-kanye-west-produced-songs-that-dont-feature-kanye/ Doesn't change the fact he's massive dickhead though.
15. Saw you guys play in St Ives a couple of months ago, top band!
16. A good starting point is attack set to boost, grunt set to fat, slight bass/lo-mid boost and slight hi-mid/treble rolloff, gain 11 o'clock, blend 1 o'clock. I pretty much leave mine there!
17. Orange Terror is a really good match for the B3K too, it's a dark sounding amp which helps tame the brightness of the pedal.
18. Sharper, crisper, more definition? I concur with the Darkglass B3K (or B7K) suggestion. It doesn't have more drive than the ODB-3 though, but I don't think there is a pedal that does. The Boss is a high gain monster!
19. Sounds like it mutes a bit too much for my liking from the videos and seems to be non adjustable. I think I would prefer to splash out the extra on the Bassmute, or not bother and stick with a sponge.
20.
Kanye smashed it. The haters ain't ever gonna "get it". Pure Kanye last night. Just him in the light. Piled on all of the hits right from the gun. Loved it. This is music 2015 style.
21.
No matter how many times I read that, I have absolutely NO CLUE what it means!
This: http://basschat.co.u...-feedback-mods/ I chose B3K. Even though it's blend is flawed too IMHO! Moreso on the B7K though, since that is the kind of pedal that you might wish to use direct into a power amp, but you can't get enough juice out of it because the volume control only affects the dirt level! With the right bass/rig, the B*K sounds amazing for modern/agressive sounds and there's nothing like it. Rats are cool, I love my Blower Box, but if having to choose one I'd probably have to select the Darkglass.
22. I bought the same covers. I just took a file to my pickguard to make it fit, screws still went in even though they were slightly wider. Bosh.
