1.
this is the v1 which imo sounds better than any other carnation of the VT.
I have tried them all and have to agree, never heard anyone else say it though!
2. They are the most recognised pedal brand, and for a while, their only 'bass overdrive' pedal was a nasty (in a good way) distortion pedal. So new bassists bought ODB3s in their droves looking for mild 'overdrive' only to be disappointed, then start researching their options to upgrade from their Boss pedal. So a lot of bassists now have a built-in dislike for Boss pedals. They've come out with the BB1-X now, but it's a bit crap, I sold mine after playing with it for only 5 minutes. Still have my ODB-3 though, not much can touch it for sheer brutality! They have some decent pedals, but many have drawbacks and aren't the top pick in their respective categories. I see them as mostly mediocre, with a few exceptions that are classics.

4. This one is on my radar: http://pedalsandeffects.com/review-fwonk-envelope-filter-by-mr-black/
5. The metering is supposedly a multi-colour LED, similar to the Diamond Compressor. It's not as nice as a meter, but it's still very usable if implemented well!
6. The ultimate bass compressor? http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:NEv-ont1Y-8J:www.mansons.co.uk/product/origin-effects-cali76-compact-bass-compressor-7147+&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=uk&client=
7.
Hi Darren, as tempting as your bass is - and it is lovely - I'm looking to thin the herd at the moment really. Is the nut really 47mm? Thanks Geoff
I doubt it, the 5 string version is only 42mm!
8. Now is a very good time to buy stuff from Europe. £376 for one of these is a steal!
9. The strat style input jack and bridge mean it's the older model. I bought a 5 string Streamer for £280 from an Italian shop, Overbeat.it. A good deal cheaper than anywhere else in Europe, maybe they listed it wrong! It was set up really well out of the box, in fact I have not bothered to touch the set up yet until I get round to changing the strings, which were ok as well. The electronics were a major let down though - passive humbuckers wired up to 2x 25K volume pots?! Should be 250K or 500K surely, and the output level is woeful. Going into a boost pedal into the B7K though and it sounds immense - I have a Darkglass preamp waiting to be fitted to it that should give it a proper kick up the jacksie.
10. Your post cheered me up, then the price you quoted for your Sandberg reminded me that the Euro is not doing well lately therefore driving down the price of the TT5 I've been meaning to list on here for ages!
11. It's a very nice fuzz - lots of variation and bags of low end. A bit tricky to dial in though as the 8 control knobs are unlabelled, the bass control works the opposite way around to what you'd expect, as does the blend, and the blend is implemented like the Darkglass pedals, where the volume knob only affects the fuzz portion rather than being a master volume. I need to spend a little more time with it to see what it's capable of!
12. I'll have your (bass)balls.

14. £319 new here: http://www.mannsmusic.co.uk/guitars/fender-squier-classic-vibe-jazz-bass-60s-rosewood-neck.htm
15. One sold in Liverpool for £50 on one of the Facebook bass selling groups this weekend!
16. A few passive DI's have this feature, the Radial JDI does as well. The JDX adds a guitar cab sim though I think, which might not be much use on bass!
17.
I clicked on this thread to leave the same comment. I have heard people describe class D as lacking weight or heft in the sound, but the OBT has it in spades. This thing defies the class D myth, if it exists at all. Great amps, loads of punch and meat to the sound. The downside is they are not the most versatile amp and I would recommend swapping the ECC83's for some NOS 81's.
Me too! I've tried a few other class D heads that exhibited the same problem - Genz Benz Streamliner, Ashdown MiBass for example; neither could deliver the heft and thump of the OTB.
18. ... and I've snagged it! I've tried many fuzzes and the only ones I would never sell are the Team Awesome Fuzz Machine (also fuzz face based) and Prunes & Custard - which is quite an old pedal now that doesn't get many mentions, but I heard a demo of it recently that sold me on it, picked one up on eBay and it's incredible. If you are still looking for THAT overdrive - the Bearfoot Blueberry is it for me. The closest I have found to replicating the feel of playing through a cranked amp at low volume levels!
19. PM incoming! I love my TAFM which is also a fuzz face tweaked for bass so wanna check this out.
20. If you happen to have an iPad you should really check out that side of things too. They are powerful enough these days to run full blown amp sims and plenty of people nowadays use an iPad as their main gigging/recording 'preamp'! I've not delved into that side myself, but can imagine that having all the amp/pedal controls right there in front of you on a touch screen would be much better than having to mouse around on a PC.
21. Looks cool, the Fuzz Factory never had much in the way of low end as was fussy with actives, so the blend/bass/impendance controls are all good additions!
22. Not many cheap, decent, bass-friendly dual function overdrive/distortion pedals out there either! I suggest a Hardwire CM-2 (£45 from Amazon), EHX Bass Soul Food (£59) or Glove (£39), or Behringer BDI21 (£21) for overdrive and Bass Big Muff for fuzz (£50 most places), and you can pick up a used 105Q for around £60 or less. Or get a B1Xon to get all of those effects in one box cheaply and quickly, maybe switching certain effects over to separates as you go along!
23.
Are separate pedals really better sounding ? I just switched to a multi effects after using separates, and I think it's much better.
Mostly, separates sound better. But it depends on what effects you're talking about. Overdrive/fuzz/distortion for example is majorly lacking in most multis. Octavers and pitch shifters are usually sub-par also.
24. Go for separate pedals - I don't know of any decent fuzz/wah combos where the fuzz is useable standalone on bass, and the EHX is terrible. The Zoom B1Xon has a decent fuzz model but unfortunately the bass wah isn't too great. A used Dunlop 105Q or Ibanez Weeping Demon would be your best bet for the wah, and for fuzz there's the Bass Big Muff or even the aforementioned Zoom modellers which would give you a decent Bass Big Muff sim and a whole lot more to boot for around the same price!
25. You need to have a meaty J pickup for the combo to sound it's best. The Yamaha BBs sound great with the switch in the middle position for example.
