Not tried one but have contemplated ordering a pre-built one from VFE. I'm pretty happy with my Bearfoot Blueberry though and would recommend either that or the Catalinbread SFT (later generation which is brighter) for that application if you haven't tried those out.

I did the same thing recently! Ended up keeping the MXR Bass Envelope Filter, Mini (older not-so-mini big box, not the newer Micro) Q-Tron and TruTron 3X. I did not get on with the Enigma either. The Wonderlove was probably the most disappointing of the bunch I went through. I had an older Proton many years ago, I liked it but sold it, it was too long ago to properly compare against the ones I tried recently but I reckon I would choose that over the Enigma and Wonderlove any day. The Groove Regulator was the best 3Leaf filter I tried, I'd love to try a GR2 some day too.

Hopeless live sound - all the gear, no idea.
dannybuoy replied to The Admiral's topic in General Discussion
I went to see a local semi-successful band play their final gig in a local medium-large sized venue. The first half was ruined by the fact the lead guitar was silent, the vocals were too quiet, and the bass was feeding back for the entire duration, killing the rest of the sound. Absolutely shocking and the worst live sound I've ever heard and my friend and I were looking at each other in disbelief and slagging off the sound men (there were two). I felt really sorry for the band as their final gig had been ruined, but nobody else we mentioned it to had noticed whatsoever and the crowd really seemed to enjoy it!!! -

But have you actually tried to install it? The vast majority of Windows 7 drivers work on Windows 8 even if the manufacturer doesn't state support for it (unless they have specifically said it does not work). If it contains an OS version check, right click on the installer, go to properties, compatibility settings and set it to Windows 7 mode - this will fool the installer into thinking you have 7 installed and can help in some cases.

My mini noir works perfect on the low B - just not in polyphonic mode, but none of the others work in polyphonic mode on bass either on the mini.

Anyone else read the thread title and thought someone had uploaded a clip of the Polytune? To be fair it does make some electronic noise when active and using a daisy chain power supply. I could make a clip if you like.

Different value pots, how much difference do they make on a bass?
dannybuoy replied to a topic in Repairs and Technical
When I get some free time I intend to upgrade the pots in my Warwick Rockbass Streamer, which oddly comes with 25K pots wired up to 2 humbuckers, all passive. No wonder it sounds crap when plugged straight in (but awesome when boosted/EQed with various pedals). -

The volume control oh the Diabolik is ridiculous, unity gain is just above the knob's minimum position. I'm not fussed about the position so much but more the fact that it's so sensitive around this spot and very tricky to dial in - the tiniest movement is the difference between not loud enough and too loud!
Coloursound Bass Fuzz. I've been through over a dozen different fuzz pedals (some boutique, some less so) and this one is the one that I keep coming back to. Best tort I've seen apart from Spitfire's is the stuff that WD Music sells. It ain't cheap but it's proper swirled plastic that you can see the pattern through the thickness of the guard like a 3D effect rather than a print which is what you get on cheaper examples.

All those pedals with preset gain/fuzz are just as equally flawed though. I've never found a dirt pedal with a preset gain level that I found usable - except the Diabolik, but at least that has a squish knob which does pretty much the same thing. My high output basses sent it over the edge to the point where it was overloaded and did not sound great, so I had to back off the volume on the bass. Also some fuzzes can sound great at low/medium gain - e.g. my TAFM sounds perfect with the gain at noon, if it was preset to max gain (as fuzzy/gainy as possible as you say) then it would turn a great pedal into a crap one. There were some great low gain tones in the Duality, shame that we couldn't explore them via a gain knob - lots of folk might not think to tweak the volume knob on their bass, or it would not be practical to do so if they need to kick the effect on and off mid song.
I didn't like that there was no gain knob. Only sounded right if I turned the volume down on my bass.
+1, it's why I sold mine. I contacted Doug and got instructions on how to add a gain pot, bought the pot and everything but then chickened out of modding a brand new expensive pedal with my lack of soldering skills!

Considered a Yamaha BB425? They are on sale at the moment: http://www.gak.co.uk/en/yamaha-bb425-standard-bb-vintage-white/48076

Practically brand new, just tested at home for a bit. No scratches or velcro, comes with original box. This is a great little warm tubey overdrive pedal, similar to the BJFE Blueberry, and designed by the very same chap. Only reason for selling is I already have the Bearfoot Blueberry and they sound so similar that I don't need to keep both! If you're going for a board full of mini pedals, I think this is the best 1590A sized bass overdrive pedal out there, and they are out of stock pretty much everywhere at the moment too.
Blimey, my ears are fuzzy. Some good ideas out there, thanks. Been doing the internet trawl and a couple of those mentioned above 'do it' for me. I did also stumble across DannyBuoy's review of the Behringer SF300, for £20 that caught my eye as a cheapy! Is it actually any good in a band?
Never actually used one, just posted a video I found on YouTube. But after lots of people rushed out and bought one, a few reported it had too much low end loss. There is a simple mids knob modification you can make to the EHX Bass Big Muff if you are handy with a soldering iron? It also needs a mod to tame the volume boost when using it set to dry mode. But it's a great cheap pedal with a few tweaks! http://www.talkbass.com/threads/bass-big-muff-mids-control-mod.1070352/

Daft question - Is sterling sub the same as music man sub?
dannybuoy replied to Dropzone's topic in General Discussion
The cheap Subs are great basses - my Ray4 is nice and light, great neck and smooth fretwork, very resonant and sounds great too. Only pain point is the preamp is rather hot which doesn't play well with some amps and most distortion pedals. It's not too difficult to mod though, and there is a thread somewhere on Talkbass posted by a company rep with instructions on how to do it. -
Look out for a used Team Awesome Fuzz Machine, they pop up from time to time. My favourite fuzz of all time, and works really well with the Yamaha BB too.

If it's an always on tone shaper pedal though rather than an overdrive you will stomp on and off mid song, and you have a decent amp EQ, the standard one will do just fine. I went for the Deluxe as my Orange Terror Bass / Ampeg SVT210AV setup is pretty dark sounding as it is, the EQ is crap on the amp and I needed a bit more brightness from the pedal.

You have been given £700 for pedals only. What next?
