  1. If it hisses even with the volume on your bass turned all the way down, a pedal would not help. Another hack would be to rewire the cab to take out the tweeter and crossover, running the woofer full range. That will give you more treble than simply turning down the tweeter. Another method would be to put something in front of the tweeter to muffle it slightly!   2. Darkglass themselves will give you a lifetime warranty on the pedal (he's pretty much said so on the big Talkbass thread), and since he's such a decent chap I doubt he'd even charge you shipping!

  5. You have to be careful doing that on a '57 P with the anodized guard, it can be a snug fit and angling the neck like that could scratch the finish on the side of the neck. Speaking from experience - but it was a Road Worn P so it kinda didn't matter!
  6. I looked up the schematic on the Warwick site and it has 25K pots on too. Before hooking up a preamp I will mess about with some resistors and/or hooking up the pups directly to the output jack.

[/quote] The BB is more of an overdrive pedal as far as I'm concerned, it's basically a bass friendly tubescreamer. There's lots of similar sounding pedals out there that don't label themselves as preamps. But then again, anything that can amplify your signal and provide some form of shaping is technically a preamp, so if we're calling the BB one then so are all overdrive pedals!
  8. This bass had sat neglected for a while until I tried boosting the output to reasonable levels with a BB Preamp then feeding that into a Darkglass B7K. Sounded so damn good I now intend to keep this and will be sorting out new pots and a preamp for it soon!

  10. Yeah, I have bothered to argue my point in the past but it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I saw it more as a rental fee to try the pedal out. But I will be making mental notes of which retailers crap return policies so I can avoid them in future!
  11. I ordered the B7K plus a EHX Enigma, the latter of which I wanted to return - they emailed me a pre-paid postage label, couldn't be simpler unless they came to pick it up. Pretty impressive considering it won't be cheap to go back to Germany. They are taking a hit on this, but by doing so are ensuring my future business. Compare this to my recent experience of returning a pedal to Guitar Guitar here in the UK, I had to pay my own return shipping and my refund was deducted the priced of shipping it out to me even though it was 'free' shipping at the time of purchase. I won't be buying from there again!
  12. If nobody can help, don't forget that in this day and age you can order online then return it if you don't like it for a full refund - some even pay for the return postage, such as Thomann who are selling it for just over £250!

  18. Also, I and I know at least two other members of this forum have taken part in a band named the Overdrive Orchestra. A band that never has different members each time they play, the general premise is the bassist (or one of the bassists) makes up a loop and sticks to it while everyone improvises over the top. There's not as much freedom being stuck to that loop but everyone else can go wild within the constraints of that pattern, and there's something satisfying about being the foundation of the track that everyone else is following.
  19. In my opinion, a jam is when you all make everything up as you go along, you have total freedom and may come up with something strong enough to form the foundation of a future song. The last band I was in, I met a guitarist and drummer and we did exactly that and I recorded it for posterity: http://www.box.net/shared/k5j1a64v7t Listening out for cues from the other members and taking turns to either follow or lead the pack, when you have that synergy it's a great feeling. Most pubs idea of a jam night though is either an open mic night, or a house band plays a few covers and lets anyone else take over an instrument or the entire setup to play tracks everyone knows. I only took part in one of these once, it was pointless me going on bass as I've always just played my own stuff on bass rather than covers, but knew quite a bit of Hendrix, Nirvana, Metallica, and RATM from my teen days of learning guitar. So I picked up a six-string for the first time in years and played a few random tracks. It was a good laugh, but more painting by numbers than true jamming IMHO.
  20. Yes the new models are supposed to have this problem resolved. If not, you can use an inline XLR attenuator adapter. And you don't need a cab connected to record, only full tube amps have that requirement (like the 15W guitar version of the Tiny Terror), this is a hybrid with a solid state power section and no output transformer.

  22. They are great basses, I have the 4 string and the neck is amazing quality for the price. Only downside is the preamp is too hot so it doesn't play nice with some pedals. This can be modded however.
