If you thought the VT Bass was overly coloured then you'll probably think the same about the Joyo. I could get my v1 VT Bass to sound pretty transparent though, with the treble all the way down, and all other EQ knobs and character at noon. I measured the response as almost flat apart from the 5k speaker sim rolloff. I stupidly sold it to get a v2 with the speaker sim button, then again to get the DI version. Neither sounded as good as the v1 though, I'll have to pick up another some day!
not been discontinued that i am aware of... still on the akai website, and some shops still have them in stock: http://www.akaipro.com/product/e2headrush https://www.soundbas...CFUfkwgodCXMAeA
I'd wager that they are old stock, none of the big retailers have it for sale.

I would start off with compressor, muff, chorus, Sansamp, with the option of swapping around the last two, particularly if you are using the Sansamp as an overdrive and not sending its DI out to the desk. There are no solid rules so use what sounds best, but that is the order I would use!

Beautiful looking as well as sounding pedal. Those graphics and soft pulsating led look like they could induce a trance!

Some use the Source Audio programmable EQ for this very task, although a clean boost or the opposite (e.g. EHX Signal Pad) is a much simpler approach. The signal pad might be a good bet if you have pedals in your chain that don't respond well to high output basses, you can bring it down to match the level of the passive bass.

Anyone ever bought 'B stock' from Thomann ?
dannybuoy replied to ambient's topic in General Discussion
I got two B-stock pedals from them recently. The knobs were all scratched up one but it didn't bother me. The other was mint but I wanted to return it as I didn't like the sound, and was pleasantly surprised to find they arranged free shipping back to Germany. Contrast that with another pedal I wanted to return to Guitar Guitar in the UK, I was expected to fork out for return shipping. I also wanted to return a TH500 to another UK shop last year as I couldn't put up with the fan noise. They wanted to charge me a restocking fee (which I managed to argue my way out of) as well as return shipping. I'd have no qualms ordering B-stock from somewhere with a returns policy as generous as Thomann's. -
Also there's a new Ampeg SCR-DI preamp/overdrive if you didn't see!

I've been meaning to try one. The clips I've heard haven't bowled me over but the TB hype train is strong with this one! If you're after Ampeg in a pedal you should check out the VFE Ginger as well! My favourite is currently the Bearfoot Blueberry, it can get bright enough with the tone control up, but it might not have enough bite to satisfy a pick player. They've also just added SVT models to the current Line6 Pod HD line-up, that could be worth a look too.

I think they were discontinued many years ago. And there are absolutely tons of such delay pedals about - check out the TC Electronic Flashback for starters, or the various Strymon pedals.

Ah, good spot I didn't realise it was AC that was needed, cheers!
Interesting thread and I loved that FT2 review. Just a little shout out for the humble DOD FX25, still my fave filter pedal for the way it squelches the lows. I always found the Q-tron a little 'quacky' for my liking. I don;t have a clip to hand but here's a good one. It reacts quite differently depending on what type of bass you run through it but with the sensitivity set right you can get a really greasy sound: (not me playing) https://www.youtube....h?v=zQyC1esbDG4
Yeah, the Q-Tron is definitely more suited to more higher register expressive playing. I find the MXR better for low down dirty grooving especially on the B string hence why it's now staying in the fold!

Well, I caved and ordered the Mu-tron 3X. That's right, the Mu-tron instead of the Tru-Tron - it turns out they are allowed to use the trademark outside of the US. I'm not going to go for that Farnell power supply just yet as they quote £10 delivery and I already have a generic Maplin one with adjustable voltage and interchangeable tips that should do the trick.
agree sounds good Bakerster! so problem is i now after looking on the Fuzzrocious site i want a "Demon" sounds really good, def sounds in rat territory, but after being on that site i also want a dark driving! can maybe see me taking a punt on the tk, as from my "Red 5" custom i know how good cog stuff is.
Check out the EHX Glove, it's meant to sound good on bass and is also an OCD clone. Worth a punt for £39! On the Dark Driving, I found it to be a pale imitation of the Blueberry and much prefer the Bearfoot version I have now. I would hold off buying anything ratty until the new MXR comes out!

Let us know how you get on! Get yourself a TRS jack to XLR adapter though if you plan on using it as a live DI to save future headaches.

Since the thread was started by Truckstop, and if you can widen Metal to include stoner/desert rock: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vL1Z8sameCk

I haven't heard many good demos of the TAFM so thought I would do a quick clip. This is one of the most dynamic fuzzes I've ever played, no settings are touched throughout, the variation in sound is just down to playing style. Pre-gain, fuzz and tone are all close to noon, mid boost switch on, and just a little bit of clean mixed in. This is the older TAFM without the switchable internal buffer, so the clean channel has all the top end rolled off which helps the two signals sit together better I find. This is a Yamaha BB1025X with fairly old nickel rounds, into the pedal then an Orange Terror Bass and 2x Ampeg SVT210AV cabs, recorded with a Zoom H2 on a desk, off axis two feet away (I need a decent mic and stand!). The volume was set very low as I had a sleeping baby downstairs, it sounds better when turned up a bit! I might try an redo it next time I'm home alone! https://app.box.com/s/bli2zfbzd2owpoe3divhilx44rr7g3dv

Overdrive is what you seek. But not the Boss Bass Overdrive, which although I love, is definitely more into distortion territory!

Pickguard/Scratchplate reccomendation...
dannybuoy replied to AndyTravis's topic in Accessories and Misc
Nice bass, what is it? -
Either call them first to check, or just return it if it's not the one you want?
Hell yeah, fuzz me up baby! What I've come to realise is I don't like the muff sound. It sounds artificial to my ears, too clipped and buzzy, although I like the warmth and fatness. I don't like the Zvex mammoth for the same reason, or the MXR El Grande bass fuzz. I've just bought a Fender Sublime from the for sale section and I love it. It's exactly what I want from fuzz- fat, vintage, warm, creamy, and the fuzz sounds more like tube breakup than a wasp in a jam jar. Plus it sounds like my bass, just a fuzzier version. Too often fuzz sounds completely synthesised. I also have a danelectro V1 cool cat fuzz which is a Frantone Peach Fuzz clone, love that too, not as much as the Sublime! Sublime is huge though. Ridiculously so!
You would love the TAFM then!
-
Yeah, I never realised how much fun they are to play! The MXR is staying put by the way, it's too good to let go and very different to the others.
The Chunk Brown Dog gated fuzz is my favourite (or the Brown Dog fuzz circuit in the Octavius Squeezer). Combine it with the 00Funk MkII for a fantastic synth too. I also have a modded Russian Big Muff that sounds fantastic on bass, especially with a bit of delay. Lastly, the Crowther Prunes & Custard is a lot of fun (synthy almost filter like on some settings and like no other fuzz or OD). I don't know how to categorise the P&C, Crowther describes it as a "Harmonic Generator Intermodulator" which I think is a two stage fuzz (preamp with gain/drive), but I'm never quite sure
Sounds like you would be a fan of the Tech21 Red Ripper and/or Source Audio Multiwave Bass Distortion if you like what the P&C does!
