What hardware are you currently using to record the bass? If it doesn't have two inputs already, you may be best off buying an audio interface with more inputs then you can plug in any mic and your bass. Then you are free to chop and change mics in the future. If you want a USB mic the Rode Podcaster looks good. But make sure whatever software you are using to record can handle input from two different devices at once (most will be able to but some simple programs may not).

Mine does a low D, low B, even if I drop that to A, without issues. Then again I use my fingers when tuning. Probably just some strange resonance coming from your bass at that pitch that confuses it slightly.

Going back to Markbass after GK ( choice of two heads )
dannybuoy replied to flippyfloop's topic in Amps and Cabs
If you've only got a 1x12, I would look to get a second cab rather than trying to get more volume by watts alone. An LM3 into two cabs should be louder than the LM800 into one and present less risk of damaging your speakers. -
For dark warm barely overdrive, I have settled on the Bearfoot Blueberry, or for eq control and touch sensitive drive, the Xotic Bass BB Preamp. I also dig the Darkglass Vintage Deluxe but it's a different sound - kinda like running a bass amp and guitar amp in parallel. This is the first time I've had 3 od/preamp pedals in the house that I want to keep and could happily bin the rest. But they all do something different, there is no one pedal to rule them all. Some sound better with a pick vs fingers, Jazz vs Precision, etc.

Now with a 'cut' mode on the attack switch - to reduce the treble. Not seen this mentioned anywhere yet but just saw it on the Prymaxe newsletter: http://www.prymaxevintage.com/darkglass-microtubes-b3k-2-0-bass-distortion

I upgraded from a BB415 (which I think has the same pickups as the BB425X) to BB1025X. Much more clarity in the P pickup, especially on the low B. I used to only like the BB415 in the middle pickup position as I found the P pup a bit too dark and the low B to sound quite 'undefined' like it was hard to detect the pitch of the note; but with the 1025X I often play the P pup soloed and get great definition on the low B. Not sure if the difference is down to pickups, bridge, nut or construction, probably bit of everything plus a good old dose of confirmation bias I expect! I liken it to going HD - I can see the improvement, but my Mum still watches Freeview in standard def on channels 1-4 and can't tell the difference!

I see you have a Dod Bass EQ in your signature - try using that to lower the bass when practicing?
-
Can't you just turn the volume down? I use my OBT at home, although I replaced the fan with a silent one as the original was too noisy.
-
How do you rate those red strings vs the regular black or white ones?
-
I like that the 'Mini' Q-Tron is the biggest pedal on your board except for the B3!
-
I've tuned my 5'er down that low (with standard strings) for fun, and while the string were floppy it sounded cool as, especially for metal. You might not be able to reproduce much of that fundamental, but it's all about the harmonics above that, being produced with bright strings, a growly bass and a bit of distortion.

Just because you farted doesn't mean your GAS is cured.

I know the button you are talking about, but I don't even have a toolbar anymore! I'll upload screenshots later.

Anyone tried the Dirty Donny edition of the Swollen Pickle? http://www.jimdunlop.com/product/dirty-donny-swollen-pickle It loses one of the internal controls but has the remaining internal controls now on the outside, plus the pedal is smaller. Anyone know what that missing control is and if it makes a difference to bass use?

[quote name='Rob_RDG' timestamp='1409828224' post='2543655'] Have you ever tried the Fulltone bass drive? One of my personal favourite players, Dan Andriano of Alkaline Trio, runs one at all times and I love the growly tone he gets out of his P-bass [/quote] Not tried that one, but have heard others recommend the BB Preamp as a similar sounding pedal but with more lows. I do like the BB Pre, it has a mid boost that really makes the bass stand out in a heavy mix more so than any other dirt pedal I've used. I imagine most tubescreamer derived pedals are good at this!

I no longer get the toolbar buttons to add images etc when writing a post or reply, and if I edit a reply, my IMG tags with square brackets turn into HTML IMG tags with angled brackets, that are malformed and end up just printing the text when I hit save. I'm on latest version of Chrome 64-bit on Windows 8.1, just noticed it today and was fine yesterday with the same setup!

<p>They do look great, only ever seen one on stage though with The Dead Weather: Here is a cheaper option if you just want a white semi hollow - to be honest I prefer this one!
-
Yeah, it likes a growly bass! I don't like the sound with just the P pup of my BB, but P&J together sound great. The Ray sounds phenomenal though, I grin like a mad bastard playing that particular combo!

[quote name='Rob_RDG' timestamp='1409762708' post='2543081']it's more of a distortion than OD pedal, it cuts out a whole bunch of low-end and it hisses like an angry snake. I do like the fuzz tone if it's just me & the drummer playing but as soon as the rest of the band kicks in you just can't feel the bass at all. [/quote] This is not my experience, the pedal has TONS of low end on tap and can boost what your instrument is putting out in the bass department. It does have a big mid scoop though which can make it disappear in a mix. It is noisy, but I don't find the top end a problem as I run into an Orange Terror Bass which is quite a dark sounding amp plus the tube smoothes things out, into sealed cabs without tweeters. I run my EQ knobs and blend around 1 o'clock, gain about 3 o'clock for raging distortion. [quote name='Rob_RDG' timestamp='1409768099' post='2543165'] That's really helpful, even without the edit thanks. So if I wanted to get the fuzz/distortion thst the OdB3 gives with the blend/eq maxed out, the b3k can achieve that too? [/quote] The B3K won't even get close, it has it's own sound and it's nowhere near as high gain and doesn't have as much low end as the ODB-3. It's a great pedal for the modern grindy metal sound, although I would take a B7K personally as I found the B3K a bit weak on the lows and too peaky in the high mids. I've tried loads of high end bass overdrive/distortion/fuzz pedals, yet love the ODB-3 so much I have two of em! One is going to receive the Monte Allums Tri-Gain mod kit I've been sitting on for eons when I muster up the motivation to get my soldering iron out! I only like it with certain basses (Stingray or Jazz / PJ with both pickups) at high gain settings, it just rips yet still has plenty of thump and definition. It also sounds amazing with a wah going into it. Not a pedal for everyone though. When it comes to combining other dirt pedals with the ODB-3 though, I find it sounds pretty much the same no matter what you feed into it (unless you have the gain and blend lowered to let more of the source tone through). The tone of it can be sculpted by feeding it into another overdrive though, particularly one with a speaker-sim like high end rolloff like the Tonehammer, VT Bass, or Darkglass stuff which can really tame those fizzy highs if you are using tweeters for example.

I would avoid the sexplosion and use a hyphen or even a subdomain like 60s.explosion.rocks unless you want your site added to this rather unfortunate list! http://izismile.com/2009/11/05/30_most_unfortunate_websites_domain_names_24_pics.html

Since I have lots of storage space I like to get my stuff in lossless FLAC format wherever possible. Only problem is Bandcamp seems to be the only place I can find that offer this format, and it's mostly only smaller bands that sell their stuff through there. So typically I use Spotify to check an album out and if I think it deserves my cash and I can't download lossless, I will buy the CD, rip it, then let it gather dust before it eventually ends up in a charity shop years later! I also try and buy the CD at a gig direct from the band wherever possible to cut out the middle man and make sure they get the most profit from it. I welcome HMV back to the high street, there's still a lot of people out there not into the whole downloading music thing that still want the physical product and it's ridiculous that the only place you can buy a CD in a shop these days seems to be a supermarket!
