Louder acoustic bass options ( is there any such thing)
dannybuoy replied to gub's topic in General Discussion
The Aquila Short Bass One is supposed to be very loud acoustically: http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Short_bass_one.html Here it is unplugged standing up to 9 ukuleles-small-things-with-strings: http://youtu.be/xC2tEIFBS5U Even louder would be a Mexican guitarron, restrung to traditional bass tunings: http://www.thomann.de/gb/lucida_guitarron.htm -
Is that definitely a bass? It has four strings but it's referred to as a slide guitar (probably hence the high action) and the word bass isn't mentioned anywhere in the title or description!

This Korala looks like another good value Kala alternative, £250 but fit and finish look much better than the HB or Tanglewood: http://omegamusic.co.uk/buy/korala-ukbb-310fe-fretless-bass-ukulele-with-built-in-tuner -
Jeez, i hate crap like this. God awful..

You're just jealous you can't play bass like that. -
I've been gassing for one of these for a while now, so just placed an order for the fretless. Got a good deal too I reckon, £273.49 delivered, this shop applies a 10% first order discount during checkout which they don't advertise at the beginning for some reason! http://www.eaglemusi...e-MicroBass.htm I had a fretted Kala U-Bass before, I loved playing it but the intonation was way out past the 7th fret (so always wanted to try the fretless instead) and I felt it could do with being a couple of inches longer (fnar fnar). I was looking at the Aquila Short Bass One, but it's perhaps a bit too large and also more expensive at £400. The Goldtone looks to tick all the boxes, has a built in preamp and also a comfortable forearm contour and cutaway.

Initial reports over at TB sound promising so I've taken the plunge, always wanted to try one of these! $200 with free delivery, let's hope it sails through customs! http://www.bearfootfx.com/product/blueberry-bass-overdrive/
Thanks for the advice Yeah think it's either the b3, or the boss limiter enhance, tuner and bass overdrive.
There are much better comps out there than the Boss, and if you were referring to Boss for all three - their bass overdrive is more of a heavy fuzzy distortion. I love it personally but I would never label it as an overdrive! If it's just experimenting you're after for now, the Zoom B1on is miles cheaper than the B3 (£49 vs £129), has the same sound quality but with has some extra features (aux in and ability to chain more than 3 fx) and has some effects that aren't on the B3 too. Worth getting for the headphone amp, tuner, looper and drum machine alone, it's a superb practice tool. You probably won't need more than a tuner and an overdrive for now. Which overdrive, now that's a minefield and a slippery slope towards pedal addiction. I'd check out the COG Knightfall, it gets raved about around here. Your amp should has a decent enough compressor built in also.

The main thing I look for is a non slip backing. I have leather straps with a grippy suede backing and they stay put when I let go of the bass, whereas the ones with a smooth leather or fabric backing slip and slide around, which is especially a nightmare if the bass is top heavy and prone to a bit of neck dive.

I got my mum a Samsung one recently to go with her Samsung TV. It turns itself on and off with the TV, it senses it via the HDMI connection. Sometimes it pays to match the brand of the sound system with the TV! Also, you should turn the TV speakers off when using a soundbar, don't try to balance them.

That Jazz would look great with a black guard and hardware.

Probably have to use an insert cable, typical in fx loops (this is the EBS one): Yup that's the one Si

I was thinking of ordering one but after this I just went and ordered one from WD Music. Very happy with the result too, it's proper celluloid tort and cost £70. I would've liked something a bit more orangey to go with my sunset orange P, but not if I have to take the risk of it turning out like Billy's! Will upload pics to the 'where has all the decent tort gone' and 'Precision porn' threads once it's done! It's not too late to fix this and retain your reputation if you're out there reading this!

With those, overdrive before the BBM for sure. And do the master volume mod on the BBM if you can to tame the volume in dry mode! The BBM really comes alive with a dirty boost / overdrive in front of it. Then set it to dry mode and you effectively have overdrive in parallel with boosted BBM! Of course try both ways. But I used a BB Preamp (similar to a tubescreamer) into a BBM like this for years and sounded great live. I layered it up with clean tone, then overdrive, then all three - I didn't like the sound of the fuzz by itself.

The black Pahoehoe strings feel and sound the best to me but they aren't very stable. The Aquila strings are brighter and stickier, but hold their tuning better. Repeatedly lifting the string out of the nut slot when tuning is par for the course with these strings! -
rewiring my bass is this possible?
dannybuoy replied to 0175westwood29's topic in Repairs and Technical
Yeah, I tried adding a switch to my P bass once to send the pickup directly to the output jack, made it sound much brighter, I wasn't a fan! You could probably remedy that by wiring in a fixed resistor if you still wanted to present a load to the pickups. -
That Bugera/Behringer 300w All-Valve SVT clone - BVV3000 for £435...
dannybuoy replied to ben604's topic in Amps and Cabs
Valve amps like to be presented with the correct load unfortunately. I didn't know these were that cheap - £390 for an all-tube 300W monster with 6x 6550s?! -
I took my out of warranty OTB to PMT also. They recommended that they send it to a local tech as it would probably be cheaper, but I requested they send it to Orange instead, as I'd read it was a common fault and they were often fixing them for free. Which they did! Get it sent direct to Orange, they should sort it.

Thanks for the heads up - that one pictured looks terrible and nothing like you specified.

I wasn't a massive fan of the Beta, too much bass boost and treble roll off... Might work with some setups really well but my bass and amp already lean in that direction (P or BB into a Terror Bass) and the cumulative effect was a bit too dark. Plus the actual overdrive at low gain sounded a bit fizzy and artificial compared to the SFT and Darkglass Vintage. Take that with a pinch of salt though as plenty of people love it, including the guy who bought mine!
