1. I've heard The Glove is really good too, supposedly an OCD with more low end and built in 18v converter.
2. The Zoom B1on should be able to cover this ground too - then you'll get 100 effects, a tuner, looper, drum machine, amp sim all for £49! I'll give it a go later on and report back, I've not tried to do an octave up with it yet.
3. The Sterling, made by Music Man, is a slightly smaller more agressive sounding Stingray. 'Sterling By Music Man' is a separate company that makes cheaper licensed versions of Stingrays and Sterlings manufactured in the Far East! I know, it's bloody confusing! Whoever came up with that should be fired.
4.
I have recently, as is the way of my GAS, started to "need" a Musicman bass . I was just wondering if any of you good people in bass land who have road tested such beasts could tell me should I splurge out on a Stingray or go for the more affordable Sterling ? I have watched various YouTube vids to try and make a decision , but it's not always easy to tell from videos just how they sound . I wouldn't want to go for the cheaper option then regret it later . I know the Sterling is a great sounding bass but just how much better, if at all, is the Stingray ?
I just looked up some examples and the Music Man Sterling was more expensive than the Stingray. Do you mean the Sterling By Music Man Ray4 & Ray34 ranges?
5.
Not for me. Says content not available. Thanks Dannybuoy
Me too, that link must only be accessible from his account. I saw the same bass posted in the public basses for sale group on Facebook earlier, so used that link instead!
6. I had that issue too, tried to run a VT Bass in the fx return once. That fx loop must run really hot like the DI, so it must need a really hot signal coming out of a pedal to get proper volume out of it! I like the Orange pre, it just needs a little kick up the bum with a very low gain bright sounding overdrive at times.
7. I've had one for a while and having tried a ton of little boxes am now running the Darkglass Vintage Deluxe into my OTB as an always on preamp. The non-deluxe version is again a little too dark sounding, but these two are a great pairing.
8. Hmm, if that's true I wonder if they made the same tweak to the new nano version. I ordered the nano last week, but they sent me the guitar version by mistake so have had to send it back!
9. I've had a Squeezer and a Fatman and they don't really cover the same ground, the Fatman is a pretty unique filter. If you see a used one going, jump on it to give it a try! I'm even tempted to get one again since the release of the Super Fatman...
10. For beer though, just drying it out would leave some sticky residue behind. Even with regular water, it's the deposits that get left behind after the water has evaporated that do the damage. I saw a guy on Dragon's Den once who had a home kit version of what the pros use to fix water damaged mobile phones, it looked like the solution was to basically submerge it in alcohol as soon as possible before it dries out. I can't say whether this would work for your pedals though! Good news is this has happened to many people before so there are similar threads around if you search for them, you may find your answers there!
11. What kind of funk? Old school James Brown era raw heavy thump? Or more modern bright slap? If the former, the Aguilar TH500 and Orange Terror Bass take some beating.
12. I posted the same in the TB thread, but: - WMD Fatman - a unique filter that works really well for dub, drum&bass, etc - A self-oscillating analog delay, e.g. Carbon Copy - digital sims never get this right But also, and I know I'm selling one so I might be slightly biased - the Fuzzrocius BDPG. It's filter control seems to add sub-bass out of thin air and is dub heaven.
13. Newly put together board. Just about squeezed it all on there without having to turn the tuner sideways! The MXR pair are sideways on purpose as they are used for self oscillation spaceship noises with the knobs being tweaked by my left foot. G-Lab Bass Wowee Wah will be added first in line off-board if I feel like bringing it along too!
14. Ignoring the crossover, gate, and improved blend control, has anyone compared the deluxe to the standard and found them to sound the same? You should look at the COG Grand Tarkin also if you haven't already done so- a great Russian muff clone with blend and mids control.
15. Not seen that one before! Picked up a Phase 90 recently, it has replaced my Small Stone and Nux Phaser Core (or it will have when someone decides to buy it!). Only thing that would put me off the 99 is I like to be able to control the rate using my foot, where a big single knob comes in very useful!
16. Nice clip of some of the low gain settings! https://soundcloud.com/johnk_10/blowerbox-001
17. It's not aimed at bass players, most guitar drive pedals don't have blends, even the top end ones!
18. Try uploading to imgur.com or a similar image hosting site. Press the top left button on the post editor to switch it to raw text and paste in the BB codes they give you!
19. Sounds like it does, although it doesn't have a blend, which I find is useful for that kind of tone.
20. £700 though. For pairing with a Matamp, you could get a used Barefaced 69'er (now the Retro 610), or Bergantino NV610 / NV412 for that kinda dough though!
21.
Am I the only person that doesn't get the darkglass thing? I've owned the b3k, b7k and vintage and didn't warm to any of them... Something going on in the upper midrange of them all that I just couldn't get on with. Having said that I've changed the rest of my gear round so might try a b3k again one of these days...
I like the Vintage, but felt the same about the B*K. However, for that modern industrial/metal tone as in the video above, it's one of the best things out there. A LOT of metal players out there are using the B7K these days.
22. Never had a volume issue with the ODB-3 myself. I don't know of many cheap pedals that can get in that zone except maybe the flexibility of the Zoom units, being able to add blended distortion, EQ, and smooth it out with an amp sim - there's so many combinations that you're bound to get reasonably close although it would take some effort to get there. It has models of the Sansamp and ODB-3 for example. But honestly, you're probably best off just saving for the B7K if that's the sound you want! Whilst you do so, pick up a cheap Zoom B1on to play with. Drop hints to mum and dad that a B7K would be the best 21st birthday present ever!
23. Good news then, although very surprising for a volume pedal to cause that. Perhaps it was faulty? Definitely not a dodgy cable that you only used when hooking up this one in the chain?
24. Audition coming up next week, time to assemble a board once more from the various pedals and cables adorning my floor! Might go for the PT Mini with the wah off to the side, or might try and mount the wah to the PT Jr for extra pedalage.
