Where has all the decent tortoiseshell gone?
dannybuoy replied to franzbassist's topic in Bass Guitars
What type of tort do peeps think would go better with a transparent sunset orange Precision (which is quite dark and almost red/brown btw)? Very interested in the unusual faded orange tort that Spitfire7 does: Lot of coin for a pickguard though... -

Mixing 44.1 and 48 won't result in things sounding out of tune, but will result in slight degradation due to the software having to resample one to match the other. 44.1 is the standard for CDs, and 48 for movies on DVD.

P in 2-tone burst with gold anodised guard ('57 style but with rosewood). Black or green jazz with all black stealth hardware!

Sounds like you want it before the FX, so if you opt for a passive DI, put it after the TU-2 so it's getting a nice buffered signal. Passive DIs don't have a very high input impedance, so don't sound great with a passive bass hooked up direct. You might want to get an active DI so you can put it first, in case you might switch to a true bypass tuner later on. Radial SB-2 / ProDI / JDI for passives, or SB-1 / Pro48 / J48 for actives. Or, just put your whole chain in a blend loop so you can control the blend and feed a mix of clean/effected signal to both your amp and FOH (using the DI on your head or the one provided by the venue)! Lots of blending pedals available for this. When blending signals however, either in your own blend pedal or by sending the FOH a pre-FX DI signal, you can run into issues where you stomp on a pedal and it inverts the phase, resulting in sound cancellation and low end loss. I'm not sure if the speaker cranker does this, but I suspect it does (I have the speaker cranker but no longer have a blend pedal to confirm).

Darkglass Vintage / Vintage Deluxe is the best thing I've found for adding a guitar amp-like crunch without making the lows sound all farty. http://youtu.be/PDXpw5hEbec

The BBM sounds great if you do the master volume mod to reign in the volume in dry mode and run an overdrive before it! I have the new nano version on the way, hopefully it'll be just as easy to mod, I'll add master volume, mids control, and a feedback switch.
-
I've got the phaser core and not had any trouble using it on a daisy chain with other pedals. I'm going to have to try it out again to make sure now!
-
Wow, I thought the BBM was bassy but the Pickle has some real subs there!

Just a feeler at the moment to see what trade options are out there as hopefully on Sunday I shall be picking up my dream P Bass I've been hunting down for years. I have a (2005? will confirm) USA P with rosewood neck and S1 switch in the rather rare transparent butterscotch blonde colour over an ash body. All original except for an added genuine Fender ashtray, excellent condition with a few very small dings, comes with original hard case. Strung with either LaBella flats or Fender rounds. Pics to come soon. I'd like to swap/trade this for a passive MIJ/USA Jazz. High quality bitsas considered also. Fairly open to colour combos, but unusual colours preferred, seafoam green or sunset orange being my top choices! Rosewood preferred, maple boards are ok as long as they are satin rather than gloss. No gold hardware! PM me with any offers.
Yeah, people have been saying good things about the idiotbox. The knightfall is definitely a contender, would using a diamond bass comp with it affect the sound coming from it?
Yes, it would er, make it sound more compressed. And there's the EQ too of course. The Diamond also has an internally switchable hi-cut filter, with that on it will roll off the highs slightly if placed after drive pedals.

Put tape over that work of art? Blasphemy! Great pedal for agressive tonez.
-
If you just snip the tweeter wire, you will still have the crossover attached which will be rolling off the highs going to the main speaker. I'd remove the crossover entirely so that the cable goes direct to the speaker, than you will get a little bit more treble extension than you're hearing now.
-
Damn. Oh well, good to know they are in fact the same then! I wonder if this indicates the basses may be being discontinued...
-
Ah so you're still working on tweaks for it eh? External switches for the clipping options, or at least a hole to access the DIP switches without a screwdriver would be great!

Just checked the full site as the mobile version never had the banner, and it's not there but the code is still shown on the main rotating banner ad. If it doesn't work just ask via the chat and they will sort you out! I'm waiting for their next 30% offer like they had over Easter before I order anything else from them, perhaps they'll do a special on 4th July...
-
They use different combinations of capacitors and resistors to apply a different range of treble roll-off than possible with a standard tone control. So instead of having a lot of your midrange disappear when you roll off the tone control for example, you could have a fixed preset with a sharper roll-off, allowing you to remove highs without impacting the mids as much. These are a much cheaper option than the Tonestyler though, tempted to pick one up now!

I think you have officially had more Rics than anyone else on this forum! Have you kept a count?
Do they let you keep the mic if it turns out to be an illegal counterfeit?
They wouldn't have the right to confiscate it any more than John Hall would have the right to barge into people's homes and confiscate their Rickenfakers!

Not being smug, just genuinely confused how they are priced differently when rumour is that they are the same thing. I've not seen an official statement from Yamaha the matter, just hearsay on forums that they use the same pickups. Here's the email I got from Yamaha when enquiring about these pickups. This was 3 years ago so prices are probably not the same. Note it's £10 more for a BB2025 front pickup than the BB1025! I replied asking about the difference but did not get a response. Who knows for sure if they are the same.
