1. No thanks mate, RATs aren't really my thing!
2. Playing with the Zoom compressors has convinced me to get one again, and after reading a load of Bongo's reviews I am leaning towards the Empress. I like the idea of parallel compression to blend in a bit of clean so you can squash without losing attack.
3. Looks like one of these might come in handy: http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductMobileDisplay?catalogId=10151&storeId=10001&productId=166808&categoryId=165580&langId=-1
4. I think when I started using one, I upped the volume to compensate and am probably just used to it then!
5. Bought this recently off the forum, but due to a Darkglass Vintage epiphany I am selling a bunch of drive pedals including this one! A dirty preamp, supposedly an EHX LPB-1 mated to an Electronix Submarine preamp. This has massive lows on tap, and the tone control can go to bright and metallic, or deep and dubby and everywhere in between. Sounds best at the end of your chain to fatten everything up, works especially well after other dirt pedals! Product page: http://www.fuzzrocio...s.com/bdpg.html Gushing reviews: http://www.talkbass....as-sunk.860497/ Even though there is a link to buy the pedal on their site, I hear this pedal has now ceased production. [s]After the same price I paid on here which is £110 posted![/s] NOW TRADED This one has the bare metal box with BDPG stamped across the front in big letters, rather than the broke dick cartoon or the kid paint:
6. I had a VT Bass a while back and sold it, then bought a brand new one a month ago due to missing it. I've tested it out a couple of times at home but it's lived in it's box most of the time. Having just tried a Darkglass Vintage, I've decided to spring for the Deluxe version of that instead so this is up for sale. Boxed as new, 1 month old and never stepped on, [s]£120 posted[/s] SOLD!
7. My rig sits on a Gramma pad, but it doesn't stop the laundry rack or the spoon in my cereal bowl from vibrating like buggery when certain notes are played. Doesn't stop the wife complaining about the noise either I'm afraid.
8. Tone is subjective, and pedals all react differently to various basses, playing styles and amps. I had high hopes for the B3K but returned it the same day. After that I wasn't expecting much from the VMT yet I loved it. Yet other people, like Kev above, had the opposite experience! All are valid opinions though. The only way to tell for sure is to get both and return/sell the one you like least!
9. Nice selection! The tuner looks dwarfed next to the Cali though!
10. Based on that video, definitely the Vintage. If you were going after a modern metal/industrial sound, kinda grindy like Tool or Karnivool, then B3K/B7K all way. If you wanted one pedal for both sounds then B7K or VMT Deluxe have cross over due to the extra EQ. But they cost almost as much getting both the standard pedals! The VMT is the closest pedal to tube power amp distortion I've ever tried, and I've tried a lot. Also, it doesn't fart out on the low notes with a hot bass like so many others do. The Era knob gives a bit of tonal variation, mellower to the left and more aggressive to the right, but it sounds a bit too dark through my Orange Terror Bass, which is itself a really dark sounding amp. Sounds amazing through a brighter amp though, but if you happen to be an OTB user, you'll want the VMT Deluxe or a separate EQ pedal. I recently borrowed this VMT from someone and liked it so much I've just forked out for a VMT Deluxe! I've been through so many drive pedals lately, but for now my overdrive GAS is well and truly satisfied, at least until the forthcoming Wampler bass overdrive comes out!
11. I normally sell stuff for the same price I paid, but sometimes if I happened to get something that the seller underpriced I might sell it for a tiny bit more to cover my postage. But if everyone did that for all items and it passed between enough people, the price would eventually exceed that of a new one!
12. I've played both. The Vintage nails tubey but isn't what I'd call bright even with the Era knob cranked. The B3K doesn't sound like tubes to me at all, more like scooped, fizzy and metallic. The Vintage has more low end than the B3K; you really need the blend on the B3K to bring it back in, whereas the VMT has plenty of lows even set to 100% wet. Basically, if you like classic tube amp sounds, go Vintage. If you like modern and aggressive, go B3K. Or save for both! If I had to choose one from the two it would be the Vintage (or Vintage Deluxe if funds allowed).

Gated Fuzz

Zoom Ultra Fuzz if you can find one used!

Gated Fuzz

Not many cheap gated fuzzes around apart from the odd Wooly Mammoth clone, but that only plays nicely with passive basses and no active preamps/pedals before it - looking at your sig, you look like you play active basses so this is a no-no. Source Audio OFD does a decent gated fuzz, plus the gate control can be used to gate any of the other fuzz models.
16. I'm in Little Paxton near St Neots, you? You should try a guitar amp sim out on the high end signal too - maybe the Joyo British Sound for a Marshall-in-a-box, or the Tech21 VT Bass or Oxford!
17. Complex chain you've got going on there! I like chorus last, distortion will make the effect less pronounced, but then again you might want that! The Bass Big Muff works really well with a dirty overdrive on front. I do this and set the BBM to dry mode so I in effect have overdrive mixed with boosted fuzz. Some fuzzes don't respond well with an overdrive in front, and same goes for some overdrives, so it really depends on the pedals in question. About those ODs - I didn't like the Joyo UD on bass, but I think it would work well in your application where low end loss is not an issue. It does sound harsh compared to some other pedals though, so depends if that's what you want. I have a Speaker Cranker and love it - although it's not very flexible with it's single gain knob. I use it as a dirty boost near the end of my chain. I use an SFT in front of my BBM, both that and the BB Preamp work really well in front of it in my experience - but you're already sending it a dirty high-passed signal, so it's hard to judge what would work best in your setup!
18. Pedaltrain Mini! http://pedaltrain.com/products/pedalboards/pedaltrain_mini.php
19. I know this is out of budget but... http://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Lull_PT5.html
20. That was fast work!
21. Either they're afraid of being replaced if the dep does a better job than them, or they're afraid of the band's reputation being harmed if they do a bad job, or just don't like the fact that someone else might get to steal their limelight for an evening. Guitarist?

23.
I cant think of anything worser than having strings on for more than two gigs!!!
Come to the dark side! Flats last for years!
24. Neunaber fo' sho'. Only reverb pedal I've ever seriously gassed for! The stereo version has uploadable patches and has the best shimmer mode I've ever heard, and you can also upload chorus or delay patches: http://neunaber.net/pages/pedal-customizer-software I believe you can also put a different patch in the left and right channels and use an A/B box to switch between them too. For straight up reverb/delay on bass though, I think a high pass filter is essential to stop the low end getting too muddy. The EHX Stereo Memory Man with Hazarai can combine reverb and delay with such as filter, but of course it's much bigger than the others. Other reverbs I know of that have such a filter are the IE Nimbus and the Strymon Bluesky. Make the request to the Neunaber dude though, and I'm sure he could come up with some patches tweaked for bass!
25. My T40 had that switch also, it's only use was being able to select which of the coil of the bridge humbucker was in use when set to single coil mode! The pickups in my old Jazz had both black wires going to earth and white going to the pots - but they were out of phase and flipping them sorted out. Makes sense to me that if you sum two pickups and the result is less volume, there must be some cancellation going on, so flipping one of them should produce the opposite result, i.e. louder than one pickup soloed?
