1. Nice bass tone there on Oubliette! Is that just a P-Bass with the grind provided by the MiBass, or is there a bit of VT in there too?
2.
I would say the sansamp para driver has become pretty rare.
Only because it hasn't sold very well - you can still buy one new today! http://www.hotroxuk.com/tech-21-sansamp-para-driver-di.html
3. How about just buying these? http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=271355771090
4. Near Barbican, nothing that I know of. But check out Wunjos Bass Centre on Denmark Street and The Bass Gallery in Camden.
5. That's the pedal, although I wouldn't pay that much for one when there's one in the classifieds for half that! I'm thinking of switching from my OTB also as I want something a bit brighter sounding. Might go the valve route with an Ashdown CTM100, or maybe keep it light with a GK MB500 Fusion...
6. About mixing 115s with 410s, there's lots of threads discussing this, but the reasons against it are: - The power will be split evenly between then two, and the 410 will usually have higher power handling than the 115. - There's no advantage soundwise to mixing driver sizes unless each speaker is designed and filtered to only reproduce a specific frequency range, like you get in a hifi speaker. When it comes to bass cabs, some people might think that the 115 is providing the low end and the 410 the top, but this is not the case as both cabs are running full range. - Different driver types, and having drivers arranged side by side both contribute to poor dispersion, ie not being able to be heard clearly out in the room - The ideal arrangement for ideal dispersion is a vertical line of similar drivers. I run my Orange Terror Bass into a vertical stack of 2x Ampeg SVT210AVs which effectively gives me a 410 but arranged in one straight line. The other benefit is having speakers up by your ears instead of firing at your knees! Plenty of good info here from our Alex: http://barefacedbass...bgm-columns.htm Basically, you are running a dark sounding bass into a dark sounding amp into a dark sounding cab. Try the EQ changes suggested and that might be enough. The AD200 has a similar style EQ but it is not the same, despite Orange saying they have the same preamp. You can get a coax brighter tone out of the AD200D than you can the OTB. The VT Bass pedal sounds great going into the OTB with a P-Bass by the way, it can add that hi-mid clank back that the amp naturally rolls off. Adding one of these or even just an EQ pedal would give you a lot more flexibility.
7. The mid control is cut only, so setting it below noon is asking for trouble as mids are essential if you want to be heard. I run it all the way up (with treble at 1 o'clock and bass at 10 o'clock). Also, the OBC 410 is a brighter sounding cab due to it's horn (also probably louder and just as deep sounding), perhaps look at replacing your 115 with one of those if you want to stick to Orange cabs (I don't recommend mixing 115s with 410s though).
8. On guitar, yes. Not so much on bass!
9. You want this, so get in quick! http://basschat.co.uk/topic/232931-fender-truss-rod-tools-only-1-left The tool should come with the bass, but they often get kept by the seller if they sell the bass on, as they're handy since it's rare to buy a used bass that comes with one (which is the definition of a vicious circle if I ever saw one!).
10. Lots of suggestions here, we could go on until we've mentioned nearly every amp going, but answering some questions would help! What style of music and what basses do you play? How loud do you need to be? Jazz quartet or death metal band? Are you likely to play big rooms or even outdoors with no PA support? Do you want warm vintage tones, bright modern tones, or both? Are built in overdrive, compression and footswitchable sounds desirable? Combo or head + cab? Do you need something small and light enough to carry with one hand on public transport, or do you drive to gigs and are happy with something a bit bigger as long as it fits in the boot of whatever car you drive?
11. Nice idea, except that there is no V3! Each tube has two stages and both can be used for two separate purposes simultaneously. There are a total of four in the diagram.
12. The tuner itself still works fine and has done for years, it's just the power output socket that died. Maybe that's what happens when you hook up a pedal that tries to draw too much current?
13. Shameless plug, but I'm selling an almost new Zoom MS-70CDR - it has tons of reverb/delay/modulation models, and a couple of the reverb models are able to filter out the lows from the wet signal to stop things getting muddy on bass!
14. Yup, in a large venue, your amp is really just for on-stage monitoring, then the sound man will do his best to make you sound like a dub reggae bassist through the PA.
15.
I tried Elixir strings on my bass and was disappointed. I found them to be greasy to the touch and not as bright as I would have liked.
Try Cleartone strings - although these are nickel and it looks like they don't do steel sets: http://www.stringsdi...r-strings-6445/
16. Nice hack! Fingers crossed it doesn't snap and take your eye out!
17. For those that didn't see the reply posted on the TB thread:
Dear Mr. Paul Moffat, Please be advised that Zoom has no intention to update B3 firmware which adds same simultaneous effects capability as G3, because 1. Bass effects and Amp simulation uses more DSP power than guitar effects. Wider frequency response and dynamic range raises larger ROM size and DSP clock consumption. Therefore more than 4 simultaneous effects causes frequent “DSP FULL” notice. 2. According to our market research, in general, bass player prefer to use fewer effects array compare to guitar player, and prefer simple to use. For example B3X does not exist because demand of expression pedal for bass effects is not strong. We would appreciate for the request of B3 firmware update, since it shows how much people loves the B3 and how much people expecting the update. However please understand why we cannot respond to your expectations because of reasons above. We will provide strong products continuously and respond to market demand by future products. Sincerely yours, ZOOM Corporation
18. They're good strings, especially for fretless. Brighter than Chromes, but without the tension they have.
19.
I say leave flats to the decrepit old sods who like a dull lifeless sound. Go for rounds all the time man, 'spechilly if ya want a killer sound! Seriously , I know this will bring out a whole load of disagreements from dudes who love flats. I have tried and I have always gone back to rounds. I just love that zingy twang from new rounds. I know its my opinion and I apologise if I offend any lovers of sh*tty, dull tones
Flats are awesome in the right context, zingy bass sounds don't fit into every track. Don't feed the troll!
20. They shouldn't even be storing the actual password, they should be storing a one way hash value so they can verify it when you log in, but they can't unscramble that value back to the original password. Noobs.
21. Just reading up on the various versions of this pedal over at ilovefuzz, looks like this version has a switchable buffer, which when engaged makes the fuzz a bit brighter and harsher. I have an older version without the buffer, and think it sounds best with a passive bass plugged in, so make sure you open it up and play with the dip switch to see where it sounds best!
22. Because this pedal has fallen off of the radar somewhat back from when it was a Talkbass favourite a few years ago and I can't find any clips, I've had a go at recording one. Yamaha BB1025X with dead nickel rounds into the Neo Fuzz, into an Orange Terror Bass and Ampeg SVT210AV, recorded with a Zoom H2 right in front of the speaker. Sounds a little bit brighter than this in real life, I need to get myself a proper mic! https://app.box.com/...gd8t41ea2bjupgl
