1. Lots of suggestions here, we could go on until we've mentioned nearly every amp going, but answering some questions would help! What style of music and what basses do you play? How loud do you need to be? Jazz quartet or death metal band? Are you likely to play big rooms or even outdoors with no PA support? Do you want warm vintage tones, bright modern tones, or both? Are built in overdrive, compression and footswitchable sounds desirable? Combo or head + cab? Do you need something small and light enough to carry with one hand on public transport, or do you drive to gigs and are happy with something a bit bigger as long as it fits in the boot of whatever car you drive?
2. It usually refers to Marshall amps.
3. Nice idea, except that there is no V3! Each tube has two stages and both can be used for two separate purposes simultaneously. There are a total of four in the diagram.
4. The tuner itself still works fine and has done for years, it's just the power output socket that died. Maybe that's what happens when you hook up a pedal that tries to draw too much current?
5. Shameless plug, but I'm selling an almost new Zoom MS-70CDR - it has tons of reverb/delay/modulation models, and a couple of the reverb models are able to filter out the lows from the wet signal to stop things getting muddy on bass!
6. Yup, in a large venue, your amp is really just for on-stage monitoring, then the sound man will do his best to make you sound like a dub reggae bassist through the PA.
7.
I tried Elixir strings on my bass and was disappointed. I found them to be greasy to the touch and not as bright as I would have liked.
Try Cleartone strings - although these are nickel and it looks like they don't do steel sets: http://www.stringsdi...r-strings-6445/
8. Nice hack! Fingers crossed it doesn't snap and take your eye out!
9. For those that didn't see the reply posted on the TB thread:
Dear Mr. Paul Moffat, Please be advised that Zoom has no intention to update B3 firmware which adds same simultaneous effects capability as G3, because 1. Bass effects and Amp simulation uses more DSP power than guitar effects. Wider frequency response and dynamic range raises larger ROM size and DSP clock consumption. Therefore more than 4 simultaneous effects causes frequent “DSP FULL” notice. 2. According to our market research, in general, bass player prefer to use fewer effects array compare to guitar player, and prefer simple to use. For example B3X does not exist because demand of expression pedal for bass effects is not strong. We would appreciate for the request of B3 firmware update, since it shows how much people loves the B3 and how much people expecting the update. However please understand why we cannot respond to your expectations because of reasons above. We will provide strong products continuously and respond to market demand by future products. Sincerely yours, ZOOM Corporation
10. They're good strings, especially for fretless. Brighter than Chromes, but without the tension they have.
11.
I say leave flats to the decrepit old sods who like a dull lifeless sound. Go for rounds all the time man, 'spechilly if ya want a killer sound! Seriously , I know this will bring out a whole load of disagreements from dudes who love flats. I have tried and I have always gone back to rounds. I just love that zingy twang from new rounds. I know its my opinion and I apologise if I offend any lovers of sh*tty, dull tones
Flats are awesome in the right context, zingy bass sounds don't fit into every track. Don't feed the troll!
12. They shouldn't even be storing the actual password, they should be storing a one way hash value so they can verify it when you log in, but they can't unscramble that value back to the original password. Noobs.
13. Just reading up on the various versions of this pedal over at ilovefuzz, looks like this version has a switchable buffer, which when engaged makes the fuzz a bit brighter and harsher. I have an older version without the buffer, and think it sounds best with a passive bass plugged in, so make sure you open it up and play with the dip switch to see where it sounds best!
14. Because this pedal has fallen off of the radar somewhat back from when it was a Talkbass favourite a few years ago and I can't find any clips, I've had a go at recording one. Yamaha BB1025X with dead nickel rounds into the Neo Fuzz, into an Orange Terror Bass and Ampeg SVT210AV, recorded with a Zoom H2 right in front of the speaker. Sounds a little bit brighter than this in real life, I need to get myself a proper mic! https://app.box.com/...gd8t41ea2bjupgl
15. Yup, make sure there is an actual problem there before attempting to fix it! Not all horns/tweeters are fizzy sounding. I've been scarred by the horrible one in the Markbass CMD121P I used to own!
16. Powering pedals from the tuner seems a bit pointless to me, if you have to buy a special cable, you may as well get a regular daisy chain and plug your power supply into that. That way you won't be limited to the 200mA max output from the Korg Pitchblack, and you won't be up the creek when the output on your Pitchblack decides to die like mine did!
17. I'm not sure, but drivers typically come in regular 4/8/16 ohm impedances, so I assumed an 8 ohm cab would have an 8 ohm driver, and the crossover/horn would only have a minimal impact on the overall impedance? If doing so, I would ensure the main driver is hooked up directly to the input to ensure that the crossover isn't rolling off any of the top end going to the main driver. An alternative would be to just place something in front of the tweeter like an old sock to tame it!
18. It's quite simple to get the devs to add a tag to the page headers to request IE10 compatibility mode - I suggest you guys look into this. Until it gets sorted out, there is a workaround for IE. Open the compatibility view settings: Click add: Now the bug will be gone, but the page won't render correctly in all places since it defaults to IE7 mode: If you press F12 and scroll down on the left to choose the last icon at the bottom, you can set it to IE10 mode: However, this mode only remains set whilst you have the settings box open, close it and it'll go back to IE7 mode. I'm not sure how to get it to stick to IE10 mode without requesting Microsoft to add this site to their compatibility list, or getting the site altered.
19.
To be fair, ask her and her dad to explain the scientific justification they have for making this obscure statement. They clearly THINK they know why your bass has blown it and will be able to explain how the bass can affect the PA in detail to you Either that or you'll call their bluff and get to watch them stumble and squirm before you emerge triumphantly with a 'it can't be me because...' statement, informed by the mighty knowledge of Basschat. Also. Please film and post the latter
It's because if you don't use proper bass bins, all that bass can't get out of the desk properly, where it builds up to excessive levels and causes untold damage. Simple electrical engineering principles!
20. You'd have to try it I guess! Depends whether the DI is too hot because of the V2 tube itself, or because the V1 tube is feeding it too hot a signal. Perhaps it's a bit of both. If I had to guess, I'd say changing V1 would make the gain knob range more usable, and changing V2 would lower volume through the fx loop and DI.
21. If you check the diagram in the manual, it looks like the second tube only drives the FX loop and DI so therefore shouldn't have an impact on the main tone - so just changing the V1 tube, which should be the one on the right nearest the input should be enough to tame the gain control. 22. There's a lot more bottom end at the end of the video.
23. When I was in a band, I hardly bought anything and was happy with my sound. Now I'm not, I'm still happy with my sound, but because I have some disposable income, I buy and sell a lot of (mainly used) gear. Everything can be sold on again, and if I end up making a loss I just see it as a rental fee in return for me getting to play with new toys all the time! I want to join another band sometime this year, but I don't really have the time, I'm too busy messing around with different basses/amps/pedals!
24. Commonly known as insert cables, as the send/return jacks on mixers and rack gear often use TRS jacks like this too. There are right angled versions in existence too: http://www.rubadub.co.uk/hosa-stp-201rr-insert-cable-1-4-trs-right-angled-jack-to-dual-1-4-right-angled-jack-1m?___store=default&gclid=CM3yjKvTsL0CFdHLtAodqQMAeQ
25. Ah, different username, didn't know that was you! I'm not a fan of high-gain or octave up fuzz on bass, but I did like the low gain setting I heard of the Diabolik. Knowing me I will probably order it and it will be up for sale here 5 minutes later!
