1. Sounds right to me. But 'finalize my board' - yeah right. No such thing as a final board!
2. The Ed Friedland one linked up there is great, and less than seven squid! http://www.amazon.co.uk/Blues-Bass-Essential-Techniques-Leonard/dp/0634089358/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1391032502&sr=1-1&keywords=ed+friedland+blues+bass
3. Btw, I anyone's thinking if putting together their own U-Bass on the cheap, you might want to look into this option first! £100 for a Kala clone: http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_kahuna_clu_bass.htm
4. I'd swap this for my Mojo Hand Nebula IV if you're interested - always up for giving new phasers a whirl!
5. Interesting - I've tried all of the above except the GHS. I like the TIs and Pyramids the best so far.
6. Now on hold pending successful meet up on Friday! Uke, they sound like a nice pair, unusual colour Jap Fenders don't have much trouble selling around here!
7.
Pardon my ignorance... but what do you mean by "the sound of them"? Do they have a characteristic sound?
All strings have their own characteristic sound. Typically, acoustic basses come with bronze phosphor strings like their guitar counterparts, and they're fine if you want a bright sound like a downtuned acoustic guitar. Most people buy an acoustic bass to closer emulate the tone of a double bass however, and for that you will want to use flatwounds or tapewounds.
8. Not particularly but you can always try me, depends what you have, send me a PM! Potentially sorting out a meetup this Friday however, awaiting a reply from another chap. (assuming he hasn't gone shopping at Guitar Guitar instead!)
9. Bump! Heading to London tomorrow and will be commuting there until next Monday, can meet anywhere central!
10. Just sold Gerry a Jazz body, swift communication and speedy payment, no mucking about!
11. My Breedlove has a phase switch on the preamp which really helps, so if yours has a similar button be sure to try it out! A parametric EQ can help to notch out a particularly troublesome frequency also.
12. Hmm, I've always wanted to try one of these and a white one does sound nice!
13. Often the preamp can have a built in phase switch to help cut out feedback. I hate the sound of them with steel/bronze strings, but with flats or nylons epecially on a fretless you can get a very double bass like sound out of them.
14.
New strings.
Only if you plan on funking them up by keeping a KFC bucket on standby - I hate the sound of new strings!
15. Cheaper options are the older Korg Pandoras - loads of them on eBay usually! Does your Mac have a line in? I used to practice through my PC by just plugging it into the line input, then mix it with audio output from Windows Media Player (with the bass turned down on the EQ). You'll get better tone with an active bass or with a buffered effects pedal in the signal path due to the low impedance input on the line-in socket, but it will be usable by plugging a passive bass straight in!
16. Korg Pandora Stomp: http://www.korg.com/uk/products/effects/pandora_stomp Korg Pandora Mini: http://i.korg.com/pandoramini SFX H1: http://www.sfxsound.co.uk/h1/
17. I can only find these here: http://www.allparts.uk.com/products/mini-switch-dpdt-on-on-on But £12.80 a pop is a rip off especially since I need two! I can get standard toggles for £1.21 from Farnell's, but does anyone know where I could get some black ones at all? Thanks in advance!
18. Since the bass is usually mixed dead centre, could you add an algorithm to subtract elements panned left and right? This used to be the old trick to remove vocals, it was a push button on some tape decks!
19. I've heard of people recording vocals in the bathroom because of the natural reverb, but I don't think there'd be enough rehearsal space around the bath for an entire band. I recommend putting the drummer in the bath itself. Also, you may struggle to find an electrical socket to plug your amps into.
20. Just a tip - I had a Squier Jazz on here for sale for over a week with no bites - I advertised the body and neck separately and they sold within hours! Plus they were easier to pack for shipping, just wrap in bubble wrap and a makeshift box made from other boxes!
21. Do you live within driving distance of Bass Direct? Your best bet witted be to head there and try both out! There may be other shops that stock both basses, maybe the Gallery?
22.
Shame he (probably) didn't use them on the last album coz his tone on that was utter pish.
What?! I thought the bass tones on 13 sounded great!
