1. Plus you can definitely hear the frets in some of the slides. I play this one a lot on my P with TI flats (since I don't own a Jazz!).
2. I bought some stiff closed cell foam from eBay for my Orange Terror / SVT210AV: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/149502-orange-bass-terror/page__view__findpost__p__1658690
3. Probably the power supply as it might not have been designed for low noise applications, although you don't need to spend loads to get a quiet one. I have a Johnnyshredfreak power supply that served me well for years, very similar to the Diago one. They don't sell that model anymore but do this for less than a tenner: http://www.pedalstuff.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=8&products_id=336&zenid=ec7e9be36c6fd4164691ac6a3bd2ebeb No idea if it's any good though! You could also give http://www.effectpowersupplies.com/power-supplies-8-c.asp a go.
4. Since you mentioned presets being a plus, you should also look at the Sonuus Wahoo. It's very flexible, and some of the bass envelope presets sound very similar to the Proton I once had. I've never needed to look at another filter since! Also, new features are added with firmware releases, for instance this image from their Facebook page shows a change they are making to allow the envelope to better track fast staccato notes:
5. Never had any problems with mine. Apparently they sorted the DI issue with more recent models, but if not you can always tame it with an in-line XLR attenuator, basically an XLR plug with resistors in it to cut the volume. They do sound good and they are very loud, but that cab isn't very efficient (i.e. at converting watts to volume). They say in speaker design, you can pick any two from size, low-end extension and efficiency - and Orange designed this with the first two in mind. Still should be plenty loud enough for the majority of gigs though!
6. Wasn't a fan of the B3K myself - found it a tad too bright and there was no way to tame it, which is why many end up going for the B7K I guess. Tempted to try a Vintage but the latest version of the SFT has pretty much relieved me of all overdrive GAS for now! The B3K is great for modern heavy rock or metal with it's agressive cutting tone, but I prefer a more classic Ampeggy sound with a P!
7. The Ampeg Micro VR is supposed to offer similar sounds to the VT Bass, and the SVT210AV cabs are like mini quarter SVT810s. Amp and cabs are light as a feather and pretty cheap too! Should be plenty loud enough for pub gigs. (random image from google, not mine)
8. I use my forefinger and ring finger on the right hand, with a little bit of movement on the left fingers pressing on and off. If I'm doing bouncy 'disco' octaves I use a pattern that's uncommon but easiest for me - fore, ring, middle. e.g 1--3-2-1--3-2-1--3-2-1--3-2-
9. They are, but don't think they have a line in (certainly not the X3 and earlier models I was looking at) so you would still need a separate headphone amp if wanting to play along to backing tracks. If it's just for practice you could also check out the Korg Pandora range.
10. One set of flats left? That should sort you out for the next 20 years!
11. Fixed it for you: I guess that's 'metallic mustard'?
12. As a previous owner of a Classic 50's and a US Standard fitted with a Fender Original, I don't think you need to change a thing - the classic sounded just as good!
13. Not bad! I like the fact that the vocals don't sound like typical stoner rock and sound more like Zack De La Rocha, especially in the first one! I will say the bass is way too loud though compared to the guitars though, especially since the bass has quite a mid-present clank. I know we as bass players like to be heard but I think you overpower the mix a bit here!
14. There is a Redsub DI-2000 pedal too that's fairly cheap but looks like it should be avoided: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/202592-redsubhb-di-2000-bass-di-drive
15. This needs to be used in conjunction with a DI box, but for £15 it's a great headphone amp with line in: http://www.gear4musi..._kword__match__ Combine that with the Behringer BDI21 for the princely sum of £26 and you have an amp sim / DI: http://www.gear4musi...Bass-Preamp/6LV I had the headphone amp and can recommend it. Not tried the BDI21 but I have used the Sansamp BDDI which it's a clone of, and the Behringer gets solid reviews.
16. Don't really like the song, but refreshing to hear slap on what sounds like a P rather than a J with both pickups on.
17. You can switch it on and off - and the EQ can be set to a fairly flat sound if you keep bass/mid/character at noon and roll off the treble. I prefer the Catalibread SFT personally, so give that one consideration also!
18. Thomann are even cheaper at £682 but only have the white and sunburst in stock! Will be listing a couple of basses, pedals and a guitar this weekend then will go for it. Black is currently in the lead!
19. Diago sell 9v - 18v adaptor tips. They can introduce some high pitched background noise though and are prone to burning out if the device attached to it tries to draw too much current. Gigrig make one too, 'The Doubler' but it's ridiculously expensive, about twice the price of the Dunlop 18v power supply I eventually ended up with!
20. They have the option of maple or ebony boards on the 2024/2025 range if you ask - one of our BC members has a 2024 with a maple neck.
21. That's on the steep side, but it does look like one of the very early ones with the large Fender logo and they are pretty rare.

Ebanol?

I hated the ebanol board on the fretless Squier VM Jazz. Instead of the soft mwah as the note decays with vibrato you get from rosewood, it was a cold harsh rattling sound. Plenty of people seem to like this bass however. I did have the action really low though and not all ebanol boards may be equal, so YMMV! If it was the Squier you were looking at, Vintage do a similar Jaco jazz with a rosewood board that might be worth a look.
23. Just been listening to some BOC and noticed Happy Jack's avatar goes great with these two:
24. Leaning towards the brown since it's rather different... The black is screaming out for a painted headstock and ebony board!
25. With my BB415 being my favourite bass, I've been after one of these and at this price of £681 delivered think I will snap one up! Now... caramel brown or black?! http://www.musik-produktiv.co.uk/yamaha-bb-1025x-cb.html
