1. Can't believe nobody's mentioned the Korg Pitchclip? Around £8 online, I bought one for use with my Kala U-Bass and it works brilliantly. Not tried it on my electrics or with a low B though since I always have a pedal tuner hooked up there.
2. It would only take £2 of parts and 20 minutes to add a gate also, if they are using the method from rkerkhof.ruhosting.nl/Taas/Mods/Big%20Muff.htm:
Noise gate mod: This mod will quieten the Muff while not playing, thus a noise gate. To do this, add a 100k trimpot (wired as a variable resistor) parallel to the 100k to ground of the second gain stage (R14). The trimpot can be adjusted to taste to get the max noise gate effect.
3.
It works in tandem with the 'blend' function on this pedal - it let's you roll off highs/mids from your clean sound (leaving chunky bass) and filter any messy lows from the distorted sound, so the idea is that you'll get a better balance of the two - fat clean bottom end with big dirty miffed up mids/high end.
That's the idea, but what happens in practice is: - You end up with less volume hitting the fuzz circuit, resulting in less gain and less distortion. - The mids and highs are very compressed due to the fuzz but the lows are not. The heavier you play, the heavier the bass, which might be undesirable. - When you hit that crossover foot switch, expect a volume drop since you are rolling off highs from the clean portion and lows from the fuzz portion. This was my experience of playing around with the original BBM with an SFX X&M crossover blender. In my experience, this particular fuzz retains plenty of low end by itself. A small amount of clean blend is required to add a bit of definition and dynamics to the sound, but using a crossover did not work out for me. Subtle usage of it though could certainly help situations where you have a high output bright active bass and need to both reduce the clean highs slightly to help the signals mesh together and reduce the bass hitting the fuzz to prevent getting overloaded and mushy. Still, at least this version has a proper blend unlike the original which requires modding to make usable!
4. I've been too busy to play with mine properly but I do know that it's going nowhere! Best filter I've ever played, possibly in the world. All those controls can be daunting at first, but it's very easy to use! I'd rather have the control than go back to a more basic filter any day.
5. Reminds me of the Mighty Boosh band 'Future Sailors'!
6. You'd have trouble playing this without an upright: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwI0gbGEyuI&feature=youtube_gdata_player
7. Grabbed preset #3 which is a bass wah, mixed in a bit of dry signal, turned up the resonance and set it to envelope mode and got the best envelope filter I've ever played. Being able to adjust the sensitivity, attack and release means you can easily set up the sweet spot for your individual bass and playing style. Menus are quite easy to grasp, will be even easier to tweak I imagine with the software over USB. Also, there's a global envelope sensitivity setting in case you want to switch basses but not have to change the sensitivity of the individual presets. Very glad I got this, the first filter I've tried that hasn't somehow disappointed me!
8. Well, no noise when powering it by itself! Getting some great sounds out of it by blending lowpass, bandpass and dry signals together. So far I prefer it to the Xerograph and any other wah I've had, but it's still the honeymoon phase and I've barely got my fingers in it's knickers yet.
9. Received mine today! Haven't had much time to play with it and really busy over the next week so I won't give much of a review. Just to say that so far it's REALLY well put together, the presets weren't very useable but showed great potential. This could be the filter to rule them all, as long as you're not afraid to get in there and tweak it! I noticed quite a bit of noise using it on my daisy chain with lots of other pedals, I'll try putting it separately later to see if it improves things.
10. GHS Brite Flats per chance? They sound great on fretless and it sounds like you need to try something to make you like this bass again!
11. I had an Ibanez Promethan P5110 combo that was ideal for this, very small and light but also loud enough to carry a small gig without PA if necessary. There is a Red Sub clone that is much cheaper too. The Roland cubes are good too, also check out the Phil Jones briefcase!
12. Ampeg SVT210AV: Needs a foam platform though due to the handle on top and four countersunk cups for stacking another cab on top. Two of these would give you a nice tall rig firing straight into your ears! A good match for the head, I much prefer it to the Orange SP210 I had previously.
13. My first bass was a RB270F fretless - still have it! For some reason Yamahas are rather underrated so sell for peanuts used, I've seen used RBX270s under £100 all the time on eBay.
14. If you don't find what you're looking for you could compromise by turning the volume up a bit on the pedal in the loop and turning the blend down slightly if you wanted to achieve an overall volume boost with the blender engaged!
15. What cabs are you using? Please don't say you're using tweeters! Old school bass and amp deserve an old school cab. I'm using a Boss ODB-3 into an Orange Terror Bass and Ampeg SVT210AV, the natural rolloff from the cab filters out the fizz that the pedal is notorious for.
16. Some extra details would help your sale - Vintage Modified or Classic Vibe, which is it? Maple/Rosewood? Also does it come with tuners, string tree, bolts, neck plate etc?
17. WTF I didn't even realise we had a new classifieds section!
18. Unless you're desperate to stay in the band I agree with the above - they would be shocked but it's the only way they'll get the message!
19. I got a PayPal invoice the very next day - check your junk mail or otherwise email James at Sonuus dot com.
20. You will want to order one before the release date to save money! I did so last night, just got an email from the director to inform me that the initial batch has sold out, the next lot will be in the UK in 2 weeks time. Also it turns out the main office is only a mile or two down the road from where I live!
