1. I've always used 45-105, but recently tried tuning my BB415 down 5 steps(!) just for fun and loved the loose feel of the strings, sounded really growly too. Next time I change the strings I'm going for a lighter guage!
2. I might take the head if the cab goes - what's your price for splitting them? I'd be interested in the cab too but only if you can put the original drivers back in.
3. If they release one in sunburst/tort I'm all over it!
4. Looks like a Badass in the video, but other pics show a standard CV high mass bridge with brass saddles. The pickup has massive pole pieces like an SPB-3 Quarter Pounder though, and there's no tone control! http://media.fmicdirect.com/squier/images/products/guitars/0301084505_frt_wlg_001.jpg I prefer the look of the Matt Freeman model though.
5. Just spotted this yesterday, think I might have to get one: http://www.fenderjap...o.jp/ajb-v.html One thing that has annoyed me about Fender 5 strings is the 47mm nut width - this one is 42mm just like my Yamaha BB415. I've been looking for a nice black 5 string jazz with a narrower nut for ages and this fits the bill! Now to go about sourcing one - there's one on eBay (http://www.ebay.co.u...#ht_5970wt_1037), or there's alway Ishibashi... any other suppliers I should look into?
6.
Doesn't the guy from pendulum have something similar?
Rob from Pendulum uses a Starr Labs Ztar: http://www.starrlabs.com/
7. If you want the B to sound like the other strings, I'd check out some Dingwalls.
8. Price seems fair, sadly I guess they aren't in fashion at the moment! I love these basses though and am saving for a 2025X!
9. Tried the VT Bass? I reckon it will cop the Chelsea Dagger sound better than the others (I have all three).
10. You can order them direct from Yamaha. I enquired about putting some in my BB415. Even though the BB1025 and BB2025 supposedly have the same pickups, the latter were more expensive, when I enquired about this I did not receive an answer! To fix your problem you need to apply IRA and ARE treatments. Put your bass in the oven then leave it on top of the washing machine during a spin cycle. That should do the trick and make it sound like a vintage bass.
11. By the way, you can power the Boss 12v ACA pedals at 9v as long as it's daisy chained with another 9v pedal. Haven't gotten my head around why exactly but trust me!
12. Any more info on the origins of the neck and body? Is the body a MIJ Fender?
13. Just imagine that everyone in the audience is naked. And deaf!
14. Dunlop nickels - best rounds I've ever used. I would have chosen TI Flats also but I could only choose one!
15. What new pedals, got a link?
16.
It sounds good with most cabs, but for me, I found it sounded nicest with Ampeg cabs. A real old-school sound, nice and warm, set with a bit of break-up, but not full on gain. Keep thinking about getting another OTB as it happens - was a nice little amp.
I use mine with an Ampeg SVT210AV, although I had to make a little foam stand to get it to sit nicely on top: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/149502-orange-bass-terror/page__view__findpost__p__1658690 Width-wise it's a perfect fit, and with two of these cabs stacked vertically you'd have a loud rig that fires at ear level and takes up bugger all space on tight stages!
17. Don't rule out the Squier Classic Vibe / Vintage Modified / Matt Freeman P basses without trying them either. Great basses, and better than the Mexican Fenders according to some.
18. Are you using it in dry mode? In stock form, dry mode isn't very useable as it produces a large volume boost but this mod can change that: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/112212-bass-big-muff-volume-and-feedback-mods/ I use it in dry mode with the aforementioned mod, but also run a mild mid-boosting overdrive in front of it and have no problems cutting through. I use the Catalinbread SFT for this at the moment, but I've also had good results with a modded Bad Monkey and Xotic BB Preamp. This way you can layer your dirt - clean, mild OD, and OD + Fuzz!
19. You don't even need a fancy drill, I've drilled enclosures just fine with a hand power drill!
20. I've tried loads of filters and wahs but never been 100% happy with one. If I was going to buy another right now though it would be the 3Leaf Wonderlove: http://www.3leafaudi...nvelope-filter/
21. I would hazard a guess that the one that looks more expensive is the expensive one!
22. Sorry, didn't see this as haven't checked the thread in a while! Not looking for any trades at the moment.
23. 'Tis to do wth phase cancellation: http://barefacedbass.com/uploads/BGM61%20Dec2010.pdf
24. Basically the first two Black Sabbath albums! Also if you get the deluxe versions there is a B-side Wicked World that has a brilliant bassline!
