1. Guillemots? Skip to 1:10...
2. Quarter Pounders are SPB-3 not 1! If it's a 1 you have I'm interested but I'm guessing not.
3. I don't like the bridge pickup by itself but it sounds great in combination with the P. I am in two minds whether to trade up to a 1025X or mod this one. Or do both! If I was to fit new pickups, I wonder if anyone on here would be able to fabricate a new set of chrome pickup surrounds? I don't want to refin or cover it up with a scratchplate. If I did go this route, I could sell you the stock ones, Such!
4. I've got a Badass V ready to fit to mine and right about trying new pickups too. If you're gonna be re-routing and filling in holes, instead of buying another donor bass, you could either buy two matching 5 string P pickups or get a Musicman style humbucker for the bridge. I like the look of the Delano pups mainly because their huge pole pieces look cool! Another option is to get some custom pickups made that for straight in but that wouldn't come cheap.
5. If you get to a shop that has one, check out the Ampeg Micro VR & SVT210AV stack. I'm using one of those cabs with the Terror and it has the classic Ampeg 810 sound whilst being light as a feather and very reasonably priced.
6. Without a doubt you should definitely try the Orange Terror Bass - much more grunt than the Streamliner. Not tried the Walkabout though but never heard a bad word said about them except for the fan noise, which is fixable.
7. That guitar amp has feet on the side?! Not sure I'd want to prop that up on it's end.
8. You just want a simple A/B box like the EHX Switchblade: http://www.hotroxuk.com/electro-harmonix-switchblade-passive-channel-selector.html Do you really need that though? You don't always have to have passive bass into passive input, active bass into active input. If you are trying to even the volumes out when switching between two basses, this is not the best solution unless your amp has separate gain controls for each input.
9. I hear it's rare to find one this old where the headstock hasn't snapped off, so don't be put off by this people! Some more pics of the side of the neck near the repair would be a good idea though.
10. The demo version looks ten times better, and it would look ten times better again without the fancy script font!
11. Nice bass - what happened to the headstock, did it snap off? If so looks like a good repair, can't see any evidence!
12. I blame whoever put it at a 99p starting bid!
13. Oh good grief, not again. I have good fish, and good chips - do I need tomato ketchup? Depends if you like the flavour!
14. Good luck with selling that as a job lot - I think you'd have better luck if you split.
15. Like this one?
16. It's good enough for Alabama Shakes! I have found that a very light piece of foam that does almost nothing down by the bridge sounds very good when moving it up towards the pickup. Still searching for the perfect mute that mutes evenly across the uneven string heights. Might have to get a Bassmute after all.
17. How long strings 'last' depends on how zingy you like them to sound. Since I play bass and not treble, I've had my current rounds on for almost a year!
18. I would recommend practicing to drum patterns instead of a basic metronome. Or jam along with some old school funk records!
19. Not sure I hear any effects in there? Just a vintage sounding guitar with humbuckers probably into an old tube amp. Depends on what guitar and amp he already has - I would maybe look at amp models on the multi-fx, but a large part of that sound is from the guitar itself. If he has a strat for example you could make it sound more like humbuckers with EQ or perhaps a pedal like the EHX Knockout.
20. I've tried a Gold Lion 12AX7 in the V1 position (on the right) and a Jan Philips 5751 (which is somewhere inbetween a 12AT7 and 12AX7 in terms of gain). Definitely lower gain with the 5751, although the Gold Lions have slightly more gain than stock they still sound better. Still trying to decide what I prefer, limited by the fact that Hot Rox sent me an EHX valve in one of the Gold Lion boxes by mistake (I should have had two of em) - they are hopefully sending me a replacement. I'm not sure if changing the V2 valve on the left to a lower gain tube will have the effect of limiting the maximum power out of the amp? Depends exactly how it's wired up but the schematic in the manual isn't detailed enough. 21. Give me your Shuker then and I can mod it in a similar fashion if you like! I'd like to see a pic of that, never seen a 6 string P before - I imagine the pickups are hard to come by!
22. Looks like this owner tried to reduce the weight of his T-40... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300715853460&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:GB:1123#ht_500wt_1415
23. When you push the Genz hard, I think the compression you hear is Genz's fancy '3D Power Management' which is supposed to emulate tube compression. It sounds to me like a limiter applied to the low end only - at high volume you can dig in and get a bit more growl without clipping the amp due to too much bass coming through.
