1. Nice score. Never heard of Wilkes, but it has Schaller tuners and maybe even DiMarzio pickups in it so well worth £25!
2. You can easily mod the Bass Muff to give you more control of the wet/dry blend if that's the sound you want - it sure is smooth, and also rather cheap. The new MXR Bass Fuzz Deluxe may be worth a look also, it's a Tonebender type fuzz with separate wet/dry volume controls.
3. I have a matching '79 T-40 too! My favourite sounds out of it are both pickups with everything at 10, played hard, with a pick, into a tube amp or overdrive pedal. Also the same setting but rolling off the tone a tad at the bridge to fatten it up. Another good tip is that if you want to solo the bridge pickup, I believe flipping the phase switch will end up using the single coil further from the bridge which sounds a bit meatier.
4. I wonder what would be the better outcome - spend an extra £140 for an Epi T-Bird with Gibson USA pups, or buy the regular one plus a set of upgraded pups...
5. Er.. wrong link? Waterstone Tom Petersson TP-12 String Bass on eBay?# Found a silver Thunderbird here though: http://www.andertons.co.uk/electric-basses/pid23421/cid682/epiphone-ltd-ed-thunderbirdiv-bass-in-tv-silver.asp
6. I have severe GAS for a BB2025X. Sean, did you get a chance to compare to the BB1025X/BB1024X range?
7. I think it might be speakon only like the head, but I sold mine a long time ago so don't count on me!
8. They sprayed over the frets, fretboard, jack socket, bridge mounting holes and neckplate?!
9. What about the Ampeg SVT 210 AV? It's sealed and is one quarter of an 810. Stick an Ampeg Micro VR on the top and you're good to go - that amp supposedly has a nice amount of built in grit too.
10. No such neck problems on my Ray35, the neck is great and the strings sound balanced. The balance problems you heard were probably due to the strings used and how it was set up.
11. I'd say a good overdrive/distortion/fuzz, as that's the effect that multis are usually worst at. Should get some good usage in the indie/rock band.
12. The Owen Gremlin and Markbass Distorsore do the same thing as the Lomenzo - I've owned all 3 but quickly sold them on as I didn't like their sounds at all. You end up with a big mid boost which makes the bottom end drop out if you have to reduce the overall volume to match effect on and off, and the sound is a bit like a distorted half-way wah pedal mixed with your clean sound. There are others that do the same trick too, like the Iron Ether QF2 and Empress Multidrive.
13. Anybody got a pic of the new Jade Pearl Metallic finish? I'm thinking British Racing Green. Would look great with a black plate and maple neck methinks.
14. I like the new colour!
15. A Zoom B3 is another option that gives you lots of toys to play with also.
16. No but can put some up tonight!
17. Used Yamaha BB415 or BB425 - great necks and only 42mm at the nut.
18. I was surprised by that outburst, the fact that the ad was a year old makes it hilarious! The prices on these have only recently crashed.
19. The reason for this mainly applies to guitarists who get distortion from their amp. Distorting delay and reverb sounds muddier than delaying and reverbing a distorted sound. Since most bass players pay their amps clean it doesn't make so much difference.
20. That pedal sounds great - sure you would find a use for it in your stoner rock band! And BTW the way if you're after a good cheap P/J that suits the genre perfectly you should check out the Yamaha BB range!
21. Yeah, the volume boost is unavoidable - on dry mode, if you have the volume all the way down, you just get a clean sound at normal volume. Any increase on the volume knob from there adds fuzz volume on top. I use my BBM on dry mode with the volume around 2 o'clock to get the wet/dry ratio to my liking, then turn down the master volume control I added with a simple mod: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/112212-bass-big-muff-volume-and-feedback-mods/ Definitely get it if you've never played one before, they are inexpensive and easy to sell if you decide to move it on!
22. Tosh. The strings will hit the poles on the neck pickup if you hit them like a bastard, like I do, but there just isn't enough movement by the bridge for it to happen.
23. Nearly two months without contact and you're only just starting to get suspicious? Did you pay via Paypal? If so you can open a dispute through them, and you should also have his email address.
24. I love the sound of a fretless Precision myself. Try before you buy on the VMJ though - the ebanol fingerboard is a bit like marmite (I hated it).
25. I would describe a Warwick Corvette as being like a Corvette.
