1. Also be wary of fakes - I bought some Sony MDR7506 headphones after reading great reviews, thought they sounded crap so sold them. Only later did I realise just how many fake headphones there are out there especially on eBay and smaller sellers via Amazon, Chinese counterfeiters can create very good copies even down to the packaging, but just shove cheap drivers in them. Same thing with Shure mics.
2. That looks like you've been playing Tetris with bass cabs!
3. Depends how many pedals you use I suppose - and digital ones use lots of power. I can run ten analogue pedals no problem with one at 18v and could probably do more but haven't tried.
4. By the way, those 18v adaptor tips that convert two 9v sources to 18v only work if the two 9v sources are isolated, so it won't work with a Dunlop power brick.
5. The Diago uses a charge pump circuit to generate 18v. Not sure what you mean by it getting the 18v at the expense of others on the chain? Sounds like the Godlyke does actually use a step up transformer instead, especially since they market the fact that the output is isolated. Where did you get it?
6. I saw a band last week play where the percussionist was sitting on this big wooden block that he was smacking to get all kinds of kick / snare sounds out of. I've also just seen one on TV from one of the V Festival acoustic performances. I'm interested to know what these are and who makes them, anyone have any idea?
7. If you lived closer I would be very tempted indeed. Don't suppose you're going near London or Southampton any time soon?
8. I use a Johnnyshredfreak power supply and daisy chain, with a Diago 18v voltage doubler on one of the tips.
9. What's the difference between that and the Vintage? It looks like a 210 shoved down there!
10. A 200W valve amp can put out 200W of clean tone, but crank it a bit more and you can get a lot more volume with a pleasing overdriven sound. Solid state amps don't sound too good when pushed past their limit, hence why some talk about 'valve' watts. But if you can't get enough volume out of a 200W valve rig and 4x12, there must be something wrong! any venue likely to need that much volume will have PA reinforcement that will reduce your amp to a mere on-stage monitor.
11. Of course! 1200W is the rated max power your cab can handle before it supposedly blows up, although you could probably still make it fart out with half that amount of power. A 200W valve amp will be LOUD through that and you won't have to worry too much about blowing a speaker.
12.
It is quite light, my scale says 3,250 kg
Eh? That weighs more than my car!
13. I've just put some LaBellas on my P, I need to play them in a bit more but I have a feeling I will be switching back to TI flats. They sound perfect on a P to my ears.
14. They have been going up in value, but I'm not sure if any of the ones priced £200 upwards on ebay actually sell. I thought £150-£200 was the going rate, but if you're buying for yourself and not just looking for an investment, get a Wren & Cuff Tall Font Russian or their soon to be released Civil War clone.
15. Phaser - EHX Nano Small Stone or MXR Phase 90 will do the job nicely if you don't want to splash the cash on boutique pedals. There are of course many filters out there, the MXR BEF has many fans as does the 3Leaf stuff. I have one of these, it brings the funk for me:
16. I have a Trace Elliot 1153 cab which is now surplus to requirements. A great little standalone cab this - Tom Bowlus (who runs Bass Gear Mag) gives it a glowing report here. It's in what I would call 'gigged' condition - the carpet is starting to get a little fluffy in places, there's a scratch on the logo and paint chip on the grille. It has what looks to be the original driver with the Trace Elliot logo. It's rated at 200W, but I've gigged this in a LOUD rock band and had no problems getting enough volume out of it! NOW SOLD
17. I picked one of these up to use as a home practice amp, but I'm sticking to using my Orange AD200B! It's one of the Chinese built models, in mint condition. Asking for £300 delivered - less if you can pick up from Croydon! NOW SOLD
18. Not my cup of tea either, but still impressive - I bet Jaco and Victor Wooten weren't as good as that at his age!
19. Must be a mistake, they are £1799 on their website! http://www.kennysmusic.co.uk/ampeg-svt-vr-...r-amp-head.html
20. Maybe they priced them up wrong? Cheapest I can see online is £1441! I have a mind to buy all their stock and resell them on eBay!

Compresser

You need to read this site mate, loads of compressor reviews written by Talkbasser Bongomania: http://www.ovnilab.com
22. The VT is great for that clanky grindy Ampeg tone that sounds great with a pick. The Catalinbread SFT is my pick for a more furry-vintage-fingerstyle-B15-Motown-era sound.
