1. I bought this here from H The Bass not too long ago, but have barely touched it since my new band needs the low down growl that only a 5-stringer with a bridge pickup can give! Time to move this one on and put the money towards other stuff. I paid £200 for this but will let it go for £190 (no trades). The neck has a fantastic vintage tint to it along with a cheeky 70s style Fender logo. It's strung with Rotosound flats and has a very high output old Dimarzio pickup - serious thump! It also comes with a very nice tweed Fender gig bag. I haven't taken any pics of my own, but for now here's the previous for sale threads, the first of which has some pics in it (they've disappeared from the other one unfortunately): http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=102383 http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=105467
2. I have one also, great amp, but unlike it's bigger brother the AD200 it doesn't sound too great at high gain. For a motown sound I still prefer to add fur with a Catalinbread SFT pedal rather than rely on the tube pre alone though.
3. The Xotic Bass BB Preamp sounds pretty similar, but with more low end on tap thanks to the EQ and a much smaller footprint!
4. How does it sound, any clips? Is it based on a Fuzz Face do you know?
5. I haven't played live for a while since I left my last band a couple of years ago, but this Saturday I will be standing in on bass for Crybaby Deathmatch! Stoner / Doom is the genre, in the vein of Kyuss, Clutch, Acrimony, Shrinebuilder, etc. We'll see how it goes but I may end up joining them officially since I'm really enjoying playing with them! If any of you fancy coming down let me know and I can put your names down for cheaper entry - no free guestlists unfortunately since we're pretty much nobodies! UPDATE: Forgot to check back at this thread, will subscribe to auto updates from now on! Just updating it rather than starting a new one... The first gig went well, now we have 2 more lined up before the end of the year! The Anam Bar one is free as far as I know, the Rhythm Factory might be a few quid to get in, to be confirmed. See our Facebook page for more info... The Rhythm Factory, 27th November - Details TBC (only got asked to play today!) Bar Anam, 5th December - METAL NIGHT @ CLUB CRIMINAL SUNDAY 5th DEC. FREE ENTRY!
6. I know you said no trades, but let me know if you fancy a Distorsore!
7. I played through an Orange AD200 full stack yesterday at Rooz rehearsal studios. It sounded bloody damn good, the Terror pales in comparison. I'd love to upgrade also!
8. No thanks, just looking for cash only at the moment!
9. Bump from the depths! Price drop to £180 posted...
10. I know Chris doesn't use one, but the sfx Micro Fuzz is a great alternative to the muff for Muse type sounds. Tons more low end and a synthy edge when set to high gain. If you want one small pedal that will get you in the ballpark for Time Is Running Out, Starlight, etc it's definitely worth checking out. Unlike most fuzzes, it retains the DEEP lows that hit you in the chest!
11. I play an Orange Terror through a Trace 1153, which I picked up used for £100. I got it for a cheap cab to tide me over until I found something better, but I've fallen in love with it. I was going to trade for an Orange OBC115, but the Orange sounded way too muffled - the Trace is way growlier, loads more top end and not a tweeter in sight. Only drawback is it's rated for 250W (although I've heard it can go much louder than that), but I'll just buy a second one if I need more volume!
12. I'd snap this up if you were nearer - let me know if you happen to be venturing anywhere near the M25 anytime soon!
13. Try an Ibanez ATK305, awesome bass and you'll have plenty of change left over!
14. The Gretsch Jet Baritone is worth a look too, although more expensive than the Dano. I bet the Dano would sound a lot twangier with it's single coils though.
15. I've not tried the TC heads, but I'm really loving what the Catalinbread SFT can do to Motownify your tone: I go P-Bass + Flats -> SFT -> Orange Terror -> Trace Elliot 1153 and get a great motown tone. A bit of foam would help even more, so PM sent to the Grand Wazoo!
16. I like the [sfx] Micro Fuzz for heavy synthy Muse like fuzz. It's great for Uprising, and has more low end boom than any fuzz I've ever tried.
17. ^ Looks like he's playing guitar hero!
18.
Not sure how I feel about paying £870 for a mexican instrument
I would feel like a bit of a mug considering you can get them for £700: http://www.google.co.uk/products?q=fender+...n&scoring=p Aren't they the same as the Mex 50's reissues but without the relic job? You could buy a used one of those that would have been 'road worn' by the previous owner, then use the money left over to buy sandpaper to finish the job! 19. I love what you've done to the Flipster! Have you compared this to the SFT?
20. Check out the Tech21 VT Bass and/or Catalinbread SFT pedals (one for sale in the classifieds). Both sound great for rock bass tones, the VT is better for the more grindy sounds played with a pick and roundwounds, the SFT has the edge when it comes to old school tones.
21. Not tried the Drive Plus, but I could not for the life of me get a decent sound out of the Lomenzo. Sounded a bit weak to me, neither a warm tubey overdrive or a high gain distortion, just somewhere inbetween in the land of 'meh'. Also the lows were lacking since the distortion signal is just a narrow midrange band added on top of the dry signal resulting in a big mid hump. Still, lots of people seem to like it and it's dirt cheap so give it a try!
22. Not strictly a neck pickup, more on the middle, but the Epiphone Jack Casady is a great bass, and the varitone switch can be used to get a real thumpy sound approximating a pickup closer to the neck. They're about £470 new on Thomann.
23. I say do it anyway. You would have a unique set of notes to play with and could make some really interesting music in the key of B ⅓.
24. At that price I'd bet it was the 2x10 in his sig, and probably not the 6x10!
