1. For that money you can get a used Trace Elliot combo, or even separates. The 1153 cab is great and can be found for around £100, and there's a number of heads I've seen going for the £150 mark on eBay.
2. I can't believe this is still here... so I'll buy it!
3. Only 14kg too. I'd like to try this out with the LB head, or at least find a demo of it somewhere - come on Ashdown, what are you playing at, make a Youtube vid!
4.
Problem is I live in Newcastle. Let me know if you can think of a solution!
Move out?
5. This combines my two favourite things, of course I'll have one!
6. I've withdrawn this, I was all set to trade for another cab but I ended up preferring this one!
7. The Phil Jones Briefcase can be powered by battery, you can pick em up used for around £350 but that might be out of your budget!
8. Sounds pretty scooped and grindy, I say Sansamp BDDI or VT Bass, or Behringer BDI21 if you're on a budget.
9. I think you need to do your back a favour Clarky and trade your AD200B for my Terror. :brow:
10. GK MB-200 or MB2-500 are the smallest/lightest I know of: http://www.gallien-krueger.com/products_mb.html The MB-200 only weighs 1kg if 200w is enough power! The Orange Terror does come with a carry bag though an has the same preamp as the AD200 so I'd still consider it!
11. This might not be the answer you're looking for, but the sound you are describing sounds like a P-Bass to a tee - which also happens to be what the bassist is My Morning Jacket plays - is this the Two-Tone Tommy of which you speak? Maybe a different pickup or adding a bridge jazz pickup would give you the sound you're looking for? Or even a change of strings/amp/pedals might change how you feel about your current bass.
12. Yes, yes you should! Check out the Status Hotwire half rounds from here: http://www.status-graphite.com/status/frames/index_home.html They are the dog's danglies for fretless and only £16.99. They are way smoother than most other half-rounds, and feel just like flats but are a bit more flexible and lively with bags of 'mwah'. GHS Brite Flats are great half rounds also but hard to get hold of in this country (stringsdirect can get them on special order). Thomastik Infeld (TI) flats are another good choice.
13. Get one and defret it then!
14. 3 months old? I thought they phased out the S1 switch a few years ago.
15. Wasn't Higgie after one of these?
16. May I suggest the Yamaha BB415 - PJ configuration rather than JJ, but sounds fat as hell and is really well put together for a cheap instrument. I had a Fender P5 but found the neck too chunky up by the nut, so got this instead and it feels just right. Only £269 new too: http://www.rattleanddrum.com/product/3110/...-pearl-5-string
17. Another big thanks to all involved, it was a great day out. Can we have more Precisions, Rickenbackers and tube amps next time please?
18. Are the DDTs new, I've not seen these before? Usually people recommend DR Lo-Riders for drop tuning since they are hex core and stiffer. I have DR Sunbeams 45-130 on my BB415, I can drop a whole step to A tuning just fine. I don't think you need much higher guages unless you're going down even further - I'd love to try out F#BEAD tuning myself!
19. I was also going to suggest trying out the P-Retro, you have nothing to lose since it works in passive mode too and doesn't require any soldering to fit. Definitely whack those TI flats on. I prefer Pyramid Gold or LaBella flats for old school thump but the TIs are a good compromise between those and rounds. They also sound great played with a pick.
20.
One day Mr Foxen I will learn what all this "doom" is about
If you'd have pulled this amp out at the bash today I would have shown you!
21. That Behringer HA400 is more of a headphone distribution amp for powering 4 sets of headphones from one headphone output. The MA400 is a better choice, although you'll a DI to feed into the XLR input. It can mix an ipod or any line source in with your bass signal too. The Vox one is not bad for the money, but is cheap and plasticky and pretty hissy. I have both of these, but I would go for the [sfx] H1 if I was to start again. EDIT: That Ogre looks pretty good to, never seen that one before: http://www.playawayguitars.com/play_away_g....php?itemID=520 Maybe Dave would knock something up though, I'm sure it would be great quality and resonably priced too.
22. Bump time, and here's that pic from the other thread:
23. I can pick you up, I'll send you a text...
