1. I'm happy for food to be provided on the day, but don't mind if I have to fend for myself, as long as I know by Friday. Regarding the money, I'd rather the surplus went as a raffle prize or basschat donation than have you writing out and posting 40 cheques for 93p each!
2. No thanks, not really into 'verb on bass and my SMMH can cover that if need be.
3. Yeah, that's pretty doom, you could store a couple of corpses in that.
4. Celestion Green Label? The BN15-300X is a neo 4ohm 15", looks just the ticket:
Not every player wants a super-clean, high-fidelity bass sound. Characterised by an extended low end and greater linear excursion, Green Label speakers push out every note with a rich, warm tone and a powerful low-end thump. Available with Ferrite or Neodymium magnets, Green Label speakers are primed for high-powered rock performances, where a full-bodied, warm, defined tone is essential.
http://professional.celestion.com/bass/green/index.asp
5. Tempted if I can sell my Orange cab, or if you want to do a straight swap!
6. Bump - I'll be bringing this to the bash on Sunday if anyone wants to try before you buy!
7. Nice rig - sounds like you need to get away from home and bring it to the bash on Sunday...
8.
I'm having a fuzz/Distortion shootout
Same here, mine's been going on for nearly 3 years now...
9. Yes, I've gone and done it again. Splurged a buttload of cash on another fuzz pedal, only to find that I still prefer what I already have. Great muff-like fuzz with built in clean blend. Brand new, cost $210 + £35 ish for customs and import charges (grrr) = £175. I can still return this but will only get back $200 (£135), minus my postage fees means I'll only get £125. With me so far? What this means is you can save yourself £50 off the price of importing one as well as avoiding the two week build time and buy mine for £125! I will bring it to the London bash next week as well along with the other stuff I'm selling. It's got the new paint scheme like so: Site: http://wrenandcuff.com/ppie_b.html Clip: http://wrenandcuff.com/mp3s/pp_b_3samp.mp3
10. I think this bash could really do with some more promotion, I've spoken to a couple of London BC'ers already that didn't know anything about it! Everyone coming put a link in your signature so that all your posts across all threads will display a link to it! If you reply to this post you'll see the code you need to paste into your sig. Hope this is OK by you organisers, let me know if you want me to take it down for any reason!
11. I forgot all about this bash - will try and make it down! Should be able to bring some gear down too, my trusty P-Bass, Orange Terror and pedals. If anyone feels they might be interested in buying an Orange SP210 cab, Barge VB-Jr blender or Chicago Iron Parachute wah, let me know and I'll bring them down and you can try them out! Does anybody have an Ashdown Little Bastard they could bring along?

.

The lightest all valve amp is probably the Ashdown Little Bastard, or maybe the Orange Tiny Terror (guitar version, but can also be used for bass). They are both low wattage though, having more power requires bigger transformers, more tubes etc and that's when it starts to get heavy! I have a Terror Bass but haven't A/B-ed it against any real valve amps so I can't really say much apart from the fact that is sounds good. I really want to try out the Ashdown LB and may end up doing a swap for one at some point if I like them.
13. Yup, and it's probably your best bet I reckon. You don't really need the XLR out if you're going straight to the desk without an amp. The balanced output that a DI would provide would be useful however to reduce noise on long cable runs, but if you're standing next to your PA then a normal instrument cable will do just fine. You may even find that you like the sound of it so much that you have it always on even going into your regular amp! What bass and amp are you using out of interest?
14. If you want to go for a CIJ Fender Jazz, I spotted a cracking used one in a local shop in Croydon going for £350. Unsure of the year, looked brand new but assumed it was used at that price. Nice unmarked rosewood board, tort plate and great sunburst finish with no visible lines where they joined the body pieces together (something I hate to see on sunburst models, especially on MIA basses). Had an urge to buy it there and then but resisted!
15. Jerry, that just looks like someone's tried to shim the neck (badly). Folk usuall just shove piece of card in the neck pocket, not staple on a piece of sandpaper?! I haven't taken the neck off mine though so maybe they're all like it! Regarding the pots, mine are easy to turn and I like it that way. Probably still the originals from 79 as far as I can tell and scratch free. If you're going to re-wire the thing, I would take out the entire wiring assembly in one piece so you can put it back in if you ever come to sell it. These instruments are approaching vintage status so don't chuck out the original pots and wiring!
16. Don't let the name fool you, the BB Preamp is really just a tubescreamer overdrive tuned for bass with a 2-band EQ. Great pedal and I own one, you could record direct with it but it wouldn't be my first choice as an amp-simulating preamp since it can produce brittle highs that would sound better filtered out somehow. If you're going to the PA instead of an amp then you don't really need the XLR, but if you want to use an amp as well as the PA then you could do with 2 separate outputs. I'd check out some preamps / amp-sims with built in speaker sims to roll off the harsh highs you can get with distortion, such as the Sansamp Bass Driver DI or VT Bass, EBS Microbass and also the Line 6 stuff.
17. I have a butterscotch P, I hunted high and low for one and love it. Sod silver!
18. Bump with edited first post - cab still for sale, now with price reduction and postage option!
19. There's an Ashdown vertical 2x12 designed to go with this cab, looks pretty good. Is there anyone in the London area that has one of these LB's and wants to meet up to A/B it against my Orange Tiny Terror?
20. This was my first bass and I still have it. I fitted a SD Quarter Pounder as well, it sounded great. I recommend getting some Status Hotwire Half Rounds on there, a nice balance between flatwound feel and roundwound tone!
