1. What sort of music are you going to be playing? Remember, when trying out basses in shops, they might not be set up properly and the sound / feel of a bass can be transformed by choosing the right set of strings!

Passive DI's

You can use them in reverse for re-amping where you can send a clean recorded bass track back out to a bass amp, but I'm not sure if it'll work for your purpose. However, this little circuit will do what you want if you can get someone to build it for you: http://www.muzique.com/lab/pickups.htm Alternatively chop the Mammoth in for a Zvex Mastotron or Chunk Brown Dog which can get similar tones and work with actives!
3. I second leaving it alone. If you're going to buy a new neck and pickup, you may as well get a body while you're at it and end up with a new bass!
4. If you can hold out a little longer I'd save up for the new Markbass Supersynth. Early reviews point to it being a Deep Impact / Octavius Squeezer / G5 / BMS killer:
5. You should try and get a gig at The Good Ship in Kilburn!
6. Just a straight sale at the moment...
7. I bought this off Clarky a month ago... it's the first 5 string I've ever played and it's a lovely bass, but I can't quite get on with the wide neck so I think I'm gonna have to stick to 4s! Niceguyhomer recently sold one of these for £700 without a hard case... Clarky must have been full of festive cheer will when he sold this to me as he let me have this for the same price complete with hard case (new style rectangular lockable SKB case) and candy (Fender strap, lead, cleaning cloth, tools, spare bridge grub screws, tags, docs, etc), so I'll let it go for the same price, being the season of good will and all! They are around £1200 new, this is the only online retailer I can find that stock them: http://www.rattleanddrum.com/product/6145/...d-olympic-white It's a 2008 model in excellent condition, no dings or scrapes, just the usual minor surface scratches that are impossible to photograph and only viewable if you put it up to your nose. It's strung with the standard Fender tapered roundwounds, I believe they were taken off the bass when new and put back on for me so they've only just about been broken in, plenty of life left in them. I live in Croydon and able to meet around South Kensington and Clapham Junction during the week. Postage can be sorted also if you cover the costs! 8. It's too noisy to use for anything other than practice I reckon. I suggest you look at the Tech 21 VT Bass, if that's too expensive then the Behringer BDI21 is a decent clone of the Sansamp BDDI and is dirt cheap.
9. I love my 121P, I can only imagine this sounding even better! Will sound better if you put it on the floor though
10. All looks pukka to me. Has the new style bridge and hard case they introduced in 2008. £500 is a very good price, I paid £520 for a 2005 model a few months ago and I thought I was getting a good deal! The 2008/2009 models are a step up in quality apparently, and have carbon reinforcement inserts in the neck for example to make them stiffer. +1 to the black pickguard, it's the law.
11. Have just been informed it is a black Russian, I was looking out for a green one - all yours my friend!
12. For people playing doom metal and such that want power tube distortion (especially at venues where cranking a 200W tube amp will give the sound man a heart attack), it looks like a good option. Mark Olson over at Talkbass posted some clips of him playing a Precision through an all-tube Orange Tiny Terror (the guitar version) and it sounded great, and loud enough for small gigs according to him. I think it would work well alongside a regular more powerful bass amp if bi-amping with clean/dirty rigs.
13. Yeah, I emailed them recently for a single low B string that wasn't listed on the site. They gave me a link to order it and it turned up the next day! So check with them if they don't have what you want in stock!
14. Could be a great recording or practice amp for getting valve distortion at sensible volume levels... although I'm a bit disappointed that it doesn't have a gain control.
15. PM'ed re Muff...
16. I would look at the DHA VT1-EQ-Drive: - It has a tube that does a fantastic job of warming up the sound or adding mild grit - It has a DI - It can be used as headphone amp and has an additional line input - It looks like it's covered in blood
17.
I couldn't crank it much more, because when i did, i induced nausea in the vocalist.
I need to get me one of these.
18. Not just that but they also have a theremin with built in delay!!! http://www.hiwatt.com/data/HiwattFX.html
19. I think these come tuned to E as standard, starting from the same low note as a standard bass, just like a Bass VI. Worth mentioning for those looking for something that can go a bit deeper than your average baritone!
20. I've had pedals jumped on in under 5 minutes before but I'm amazed you sold all 3 in one go!
21. Check out the new Epiphone Zenith: http://www.epiphone.com/default.asp?Produc...CollectionID=12 One thing is, I don't think the Ibanez AGB series are proper hollowbodies, they are solid in the middle with small hollow chambers. If you had loads of cash to spare, I'd look at a Gretsch White Falcon! I saw The Dead Weather play earlier this year and Jack Lawrence played one of these:
22. I think the latest issue of Bass Player has a review of the 1x12.
23.
That Ginger Reyes lady is my new favourite thing...i'd like her for Christmas please...
Hands off, she's mine!
24. I like the Tonefactor 442 Red / Mojo Hand 442 Red / Boomstick Bottom Feeder (all the same pedal, rebranded through the years) which is a DOD 440 clone tweaked for bass. It sounds more like a rock wah than a quacky funky filter.
