1. Great beginner basses these, I still have my first ever bass which is the fretless version of this which cost me £200!
2. Buy a used one (they go for around £45), you won't find anything decent cheaper than that.
3. For something very different, check out Mishaps Happening by Quantic. Especially good on fretless!
4. Hi, I'm selling a bass at the moment, and also have it listed at Talkbass where a couple of people have expressed interest in having it shipped to the US. I have a hard case and plenty of bubble wrap, just need to procure a cardboard box (so if any local BC'ers have one they don't want let me know!). Does anyone know the cheapest way (with insurance included) to do this? Also, would I be best to ship it as is, or loosen the strings first? I'm thinking if it hits a warm climate the neck could bow slightly...
5. That's the Box Of Awesome! Welcome to BC Excane, I see you're no longer able to post at TB (again)!
6. PM'd. I've been wanting to try one of these out and that's a nice price!
7. Bassweet now sold also!
8. Sorry, not really up for a stinger. Could be swayed by a nice Precision, but cash is preferable!
9. Ibanez Weeping Demon does manual and auto switching too. I've been toying with the idea of getting an EBS Wah... I wonder if it can sound similar to the Moog LPF in lowpass mode?

Synth Pedals

Unless you're desparate, I'd hold off until the new Markbass one comes out. It could be the synth to end all synths. Or it could be pony, we shall see.
11. Korg Pandora PX4D Works for guitar and bass, has multi fx, amp modelling, aux input for mp3 with bass cancelling feature, built in drum machine and belt clip!
12. Check out tonefactor.com which is a US based shop. Prices are good, they have no problems accepting returns, and all their packages seem to magically avoid customs charges!
13.
Moogerfooger MF-101 with exp pedal = £180. Does some lovely sounds but some folk don't like the tone suck, I like it for the subbiness & moog sounds
Where from? Most places I've seen are £200 without the expression pedal! The Meatball and it's clones are among the funkiest filters I've ever heard. I would go for a 3Leaf, or a Meatwad if you want the option to use it with an expression pedal. The Tonefactor 442 Red / Mojo Hand 442 / Boomstick Bottom Feeder (all the same pedal) are well worth a look too, I love mine.
14. I'm still defending what I said, in that in that at least in the genres I'm interested in, clothing is not that important. Look at what the Arctic Monkeys, Blur, Sonic Youth, Pearl Jam, and countless others wear on stage. Jeans and a t-shirt and a pair of comfy trainers usually! All of aforementioned bands have played on the biggest stages. If they listened to half of the fashion advice being thrown around in this thread they would look ridiculous! Sure, having a look can make you stand out but your musical talent should be enough to get you anywhere if it's good enough. Look at Tommy Riley, recent winner of the T4 unsigned competition. He just looks like any other kid his age, wearing the same kind of clothes as the man on the street. I accept that certain bands have that theatrical performance element where the image is a big part of it, and that function bands / posh jazz outfits have to dress smartly to fit in. But that's just not most bands. Saying that Marylin Manson wouldn't have got where he is without his look is perhaps a valid point; but that doesn't mean that anyone else can make themselves successful by simply dressing like a freak. Most of these bands just wear whatever they want and still manage to look cool. Of course, if you're the type of person who wears a football shirt whilst playing a gig then you've obviously got no fashion sense whatsoever, and sprucing yourself up a bit is the right thing to do! If you're cool, you'll look cool no matter what you wear. If you're not, you'll have trouble looking cool no matter what you put on and will often look like you're trying too hard!
15. OK, I've recorded some clips: http://www.box.net/shared/9p6of3lgxn http://www.box.net/shared/kyddyv7r7p http://www.box.net/shared/jn4qirf53z
16. These are pretty rare - is it made in Japan? You'd probably get a lot more than what you're asking for on eBay!

bazz fuzz

Nowt wrong with building your own clones... Making exact copies of still in production pedals and selling them for a profit is wrong, but then again most boutique pedal builders a guilty of it themselves by ripping off the Big Muff, Fuzz Face and Tubescreamer. And if you take a look at freestompboxes.org you'll see there's a whole community dedicated to reverse engineering these pedals. It can be a great learning experience to make your own tweaked versions of various pedals out there.
18. Cor, sell that lot and you might have enough for a new bass
19. It did cross my mind, but decided against because the Audere pre is meant to be one of the most natural 'passive' sounding preamps out there, so it probably wouldn't change the actual sound too much, just lose a lot of versatility. Also, the active blend on this is brilliant, with a smooth graduation and even volume, unlike passive blending where you try to back off one of the pickup volumes a tad and it sounds like one the pickup was just turned off. You'd also be left with a couple of switches and an LED, plus I'd probably make a pig's ear of it anyway! I'm just digging the classic Fender P sound too much, so this poor baby is being neglected!
20.
Any band that had records out before 2005 I don't think count. I've probably heard them. I certainly was a big fan of Sonic Youth (and Pixies, and Dinosaur Jr, and Buffalo Tom, and Swervedriver, and Neds, and ...) when I was 16, I'm 35 now, they definitely don't count!
They surely do count if they're still releasing albums and touring! I saw them a couple of months ago and they have new album out, 'The Eternal'.
21. I remember that bridge, saw a video at school about it. Post-rock band/song names always make me chuckle, they're so random. 'Youth Pictures Of Florence Henderson', 'Burn Rome In A Dream' and 'Up-C Down-C Left-C Right-C ABC + Start' for example. I think that last one is the cheat for Sonic The Hedgehog on the Sega Megadrive! I'm a fan of Explosions In The Sky, PG Lost, Destroyalldreamers and Ocai for post-rock, and leaning towards post-metal, Russian Circles, Red Sparowes, Pelican etc. I'm not currently in a band and would be up for jamming, but I am down the far end of sarf London though!
22. Korg Pitchblack has a strobe mode too.
23. What do you play? Are you a bassist or looking for one?
24. I've put my buckle over the right hip for years now, otherwise when I sit down it digs into my belly. It has the added extra of keeping my basses in good condition!
