1. I found some cool stuff: In Ableton Live, you can use a computer keyboard instead of MIDI to control pretty much anything, like trigger loops or turn FX on and off. Here's a project converting an old keyboard into a footswitch! http://createdigitalmusic.com/2007/08/02/g...ering-required/ This dude made a very home made looking DIY controller: http://www.engadget.com/2007/03/10/diy-foo...idi-controller/ MIDI Bass Pedal kit (Les Claypool style): http://www.doepfer.de/home_e.htm
2. Hmm, I'd like to make one of these, give it loads of flashing lights like a spaceship from a 70s sci-fi tv show and use it to control Ableton Live, Guitar Rig, Ampeg SVX etc... I hope nobody posts a link with full instructions on this or else I'm going to be busy for a while!
3. True. I've used it with quite a few different amps - It sounded awesome with a tube SVT Classic head, but at one gig I had to use a small Ashdown combo which just couldn't handle the boost and sounded like a torn speaker. However, my Line6 Lowdown 300 is solid state, but has plenty of headroom and copes fine with a really hot signal going into it. I guess some solid state amps are better than others when it comes to this.
4. I was gonna have the chorus, PM me if it the sale falls through!
5. Someone just asked me about the volume boost problem when engaging the 2nd channel, thought I'd post my response here: If you are going straight into a DI then yes, some sound engineers won't like the volume boost when engaging the 2nd channel, but it's never been a problem for me. They usually have compressors/limiters at the desk end anyway which helps. If you're feeding into an amp though, the extra volume boost can just end up pushing the amp into more overdrive instead of boosting the volume; I always try to get them to take the DI from the amp or mic up the cab which so that the PA sound matches the amp sound. It is possible to set up the knobs so that there is no volume boost but still an increase in drive though. Each tube has 2 gain stages which can both create overdrive. If you turn up the 1>2 knob, then that increases the volume going into the 1st stage of the 2nd tube, creating more overdrive. Then you can reduce the Gain2 knob to reduce the volume in the 2nd stage. Only problem is to get the really full on distortion you need Gain2 whacked up, so you can't go from very gentle dirty-clean sound to full on fuzz while keeping the volumes in check. If you treat it as a boost to just give you a slight volume push and a bit more drive during loud choruses etc it works wonderfully.

Distortions

I've got the modded one and it's very reactive to my playing contrary to what Tayste quoted earlier. Maybe it's down to the mods or the bass I'm playing.
7. By sheer conincidence there happens to be a Guyatone clone in the classifieds... http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=17455 Not sure if it's any good though, check it out on Harmony Central.
8.
yep tried that - put some cheap nasties in and the output doubles
In that case I won't do a swap, but I'll probably end up selling the quarter pounder on here at some stage.
9. Swap for a Seymour Duncan SPB-3 quarter pounder? It's output is far too high for my needs! Is this a single p-bass pickup you have here?
10. I think the DOD Meatbox and MXR Blue Box do distortion/fuzz + octave down. But why not get an octave pedal + a fuzzbox and combine them?
11. By sheer coincidence I was out at a gig last night and saw a bass player with a pretty interesting pedal board so I invited him to come down. Turns out he's a member on here too - welcome Dangerboy! And Mr Pablo, it would be great to have you down, I've always wanted to try the Sansamp and I see you're about to nab the Ashdown J-Lo in the classifieds too!
12. That's cool, I've always wanted to compare my Multicomp to the Compulator and try a Deep Impact and Whammy! Keep em coming, then we'll get together a list of the people interested. So far we have dannybuoy (me) Metal-Mariachi Zach ahpook danlea Lenny B Higgie I usually rehearse at Scar in Camden (which has crap bass amps) or Unit 9 in Balham (which might be a bit out of the way for some, but right near me). The Premises is very nice, I have been there before, not heard of The Joint in King's Cross, I'll check it out. Rooz is also good and has the benefit of being a couple of minutes walk from Old Street tube station. If anyone else knows some good locations let me know, ideally we want something within walking distance of a tube station as I'll be lugging my bass and pedalboard around on public transport!
13. Ok, this thread kinda got derailed halfway through and I gave up, but now it looks like there's some interest. Also, list what you'd bring with you - I don't want to be the only one bringing any pedals! Once we've got a few responses we can sort the details out via PM.
14. You should put these on ebay and your website and make an announcement over at Talkbass if you want to shift more of them...
15. Mine doesn't do this - It's been pretty much silent for me (in terms of noise). Maybe it's generating some interference that interacts with another pedal, bad cable or your amp though. I see we both use ours rather differently - I use mine to give valve tone to a solid state amp - also when I play gigs I rarely use my own amp due to lack of transport, lack of parking in London, and lack of room on most tiny stages for 2 bass amps! I get the amp as clean as possible then dirty it up with this. I set Ch1 for low gain, barely breaking up, then Ch2 for a little bit more crunch and volume for loud sections. Due to this, I'm interested in downgrading to a VT1 if it makes economic sense to do so, i.e. if I can get a good price on it or a direct trade!
16. I've just posted a review of this pedal here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=16907 Whilst I really love this pedal, I really only use half of it, leaving it on all the time in single tube mode with all of the other fancy stuff switched off. I use it for always-on subtle grind rather than a distortion/overdrive unit and that extra tube and other features are just going to waste! Dave is selling these on his website for £239 including the power supply (postage extra), and you'll have to wait 3-4 weeks for it to be built. If I can get £170 for this one (including power supply and postage) OR if someone is willing to trade it for a DHA VT1 Standard + cash then I will do a deal. Otherwise I'm holding on to it! It's 6 weeks old, with a little tiny scratch above the word treble that you can make out in the photo. Other than that it has been well looked after, and kept in a flightcased pedalboard since day one.
17. Added my review too, but it wouldn't allow me to link to my soundclips in the reviews section (huh?) so I had to shove it in the effects thread instead! http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=16907
18. I feel so... used. This thread has been raped repeatedly by people from Bristol, Manchester and Stoke...
