BOSS LMB-3

This is a good compressor review page: Behringer Boss Also check harmonycentral.com user reviews.
2. PM sent, I'll give her a go!

Why, do your kids have afros?
4. Just had word that my DHA VT2 is being despatched on Monday. If it's as badass as I think it's gonna be, I may put my Humphrey modified Bad Monkey for sale or trade up here!
5. Damn you! I'm still waiting for mine, I ordered the exact same pedal!
6. Do you have a home contents insurance policy that covers accidental damage? If not, get some!
7. If you need to go out and buy new stuff, most corner shops do 6 Kronenburgs for £4 - £5. Drink those and you'll sound much better.
8.
how would i go about setting soundforge up to use it?? i tried changin it in the preferences, but when i changed it from windows sound mapper to that, it no longer playbacked audio, just recorded, which is obviously prettttty useless lol
Not sure as I haven't used Soundforge in a while... I do most stuff in Sonar where it lets you select which kind of sound driver you want to use, ASIO, WDM, MME, Directsound, etc. I'll have a look when I get a chance as I still have it installed on my music pc!

GLX pedals

The cheap Moen 'tesco-value-boutique' pedals on ebay are meant to be really good as well, but not laid ears on one myself...
10. Open your device manager, select 'show devices by resource' and check no other cpu hungry devices are sharing the same IRQ. I had a top notch EMU 1616m but I couldn't use it as my laptop was set up so that the cardbus shared the same IRQ as the graphics card and some other devices. It crackled like you describe, but not all the time. If you're using your built in crappy laptop soundcard, you can improve performance big time by installing the ASIO4ALL driver and set Soundforge up to use the ASIO driver instead of Directsound that you may be using now, that's how I started out recording.
11. Yes, that's how I had it. The distortion was coming from the pedal not my amp. But my seymour duncan quarter pounder p-bass pup was just too much for it at default settings and got distortion on the heavy notes, backing off the pots a bit fixed it!
12. Don't know if you ever solved your problem, but I got a multicomp the other day with the same issue and solved it by turning the trimpots anticlockwise. They DO work for the other modes too, it's just the left/low one that affects normal/tubesim modes. They appear to work like an input gain control. Because the unit has a max of 5:1 compression, if you dig in really hard with a high output bass, it goes over the max headroom that the device can handle and produces distortion. Once you start fiddling with the trimpots you'll be amazed at how well you can fine tune your sound, I recommend every multicomp owner start fiddling with theirs. If you're not sure what you're doing and scared to mess with it, remember it's easy to set it back to normal!

PedalTrain 2

Spider Engineering / Flightcase Warehouse These guys sell em, but I just bought one of the Spider ones from them, £55 for a sturdy medium sized pedalboard flightcase inc next day delivery!
14. Forgive me for asking such a noob question, but what are the benfits of having a temperature control? I'm just about to purchase one for mucking around replacing pickups etc and may use it in the future to build or mod pedals. Would I be able to make do with a cheap non-adjustable one (lowest is £2.99 on maplins!) or would I need to splash out on the £30+ controllable ones?
15. I've just changed the neck pickup in my Yamaha Fretless for a Seymour Duncan quarter pounder, and it's the first time I've messed with my bass's electronics. Everything seemed to go ok but I have a small problem. The central pot is a pickup blend, fully clockwise selects the neck pup, fully anti-clockwise solos the bridge. If I have it fully on the neck pup then back it off a tiny bit, I get a crackle and the sound drops out; turn it back a bit more and the sound comes back. It's like there's a small dead zone in the pot. I'm hoping it doesn't get worse and start kicking in when the neck pickup is soloed, otherwise I'm in trouble! Has anyone experienced this before? I'm thinking maybe heat damage could've caused it? I might have to replace the pot, although I'm gonna have to buy a cheap backup bass first! Any help or advice appreciated...
16. Found one review for the Alba: http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews...ision+copy/10/1 Only 1 person to review it, but it was very positive. Only bad thing was that there was no foam under the pickup - but I was planning on replacing the pickup anyway. I originally said under £200, but I meant as cheap as possible! I am now swung between this and the SX. The SX works out twice the price, and have a lot of followers - but then again the Alba could be exactly the same!
17. These are on ebay for £50: Alba P-Bass Natural finish which is unusual, and very cheap price. It might be absolute garbage, or it might just come form he exact same factory as SX, Richwood, etc in China and be the same thing with a different badge (or no badge, these seem to have a blank headstock). Tempted to get one of these, put in a Seymour Duncan and slap a Fender logo on the headstock! Anyone tried one, or shall I be the guinea pig?
18.
How about a DHA valve compressor?
It's meant to warm and colour your sound more than a regular modern compressor, but it looks like that's what this guy's after. The link I posted above will have a review of the DHA soon, he's just received it apparently. EBS multicomp has a tube sim mode too. EHX Blackfinger sounds awesome and I love the clips on the EHX website, but is very noisy from what I've heard.
19. Sorry, added the link now, see above! Bongomania is the resident compressor guru over at the talkbass.com forum.
20. Check this out, this guy knows what he's talking about. I just bought an EBS Multicomp from a fellow basschatter based on this info. The Trace does look good though I've seen a few go for about £60 on ebay lately. But the best according to this guy are EBS Multicomp, Demeter Compulator, or BBE Opto Stomp. 22.
Join the SX club, mate. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=11397&hl=sx http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=12081&hl=sx http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=11567&hl=sx
Yeah, was thinking about those, only thing is paying £130 for a £55 bass somehow seems so wrong! You can get the Richwood ones here, but they work out the same price, maybe slightly more: Dangleberry Music LOL... Dangleberries...
23.
Surely a Squire Standard Precision should be in your sights at that price level. I'm sure they are readily available at £160 ish? David H
But apparently the 3 mentioned above are better made and sound more like the real thing, the Squiers aren't so hot (if Fender made great Squiers, they wouldn't sell any real Fenders!).
24. Been having a look around for a cheap P-Bass knockoff for under £200 and these look to me as the best 3 makes from reading reviews on Harmony Central - Shine, Richwood and SX. Shine is available in quite a few shops, and is made by the same manufacturer as Epiphone. Richwood are made here in the UK, and SX you have to get from the states. Tempted to get a Shine or Richwood P-Bass and whack a Seymour Duncan quarter pounder pickup in it to beef it up a bit. Anyone here able to recommend these or any other makes?
25. Not tried one myself, but they are meant to sound erally good, although not transparent. It adds a bit of valve warmth, not quite into overdrive territory though. Unfortunately the sounds on the website are only with guitar. Bongomania's review over at Talkbass says it's good but suffers from excessive noise. Plenty of people have reported no noise issues with it though, so it's likely that it's just sensitive to electrical and RF noise, depending on what other equipment and power lines are running nearby, explaining why different people get different results. Go try one out in a shop if you can! I know I want to...
